Ok I was out in lala land or something, I didn't realize you might have to take pills Amy. And what idiot told you you weren't trying enough?! My boss had GD and was like super careful about eating and the times, even measuring to the t the amount and still had to take meds....some people just react differently, pregnancy hormones makes me want to reach out and slap that person, actually I might do it without being preggo! And don't feel bad, you did all you could do, that is like saying well you don't need IF meds, you just didn't try hard enough, there is a reason they have meds for preggo women with this problem, sometimes you do all you can and just need a little help from modern medicine! btw, when do they usually do the glucose test?

Shelley-I am super jealous of your bigger closet, the one in the future nursery will have to be redone but there isn't anything we can do to make it bigger, =( And I am with you there on the sleepers, it is pretty insane how much baby clothes cost these days, if you bought three it would cost you over 60 dollars, insane!!! I wish my grandma was still around so she could make me clothes, I just might try on my own!

I am having such a hard time with acne here, I have it all over my face and it is spreading, it is super bad! And I am noticing a lot of little bruises on parts of my body that don't get bumped or hit a lot, I wonder if my iron is low...isn't that what usually causes bruising? Well off to have lunch, yay for authentic mexian food!!! And maybe I will break my fear and do some baby shopping....but we will see how brave I am!

Amy - maybe metformin or glyburide......well lets just say who ever said you aren't trying hard enough with diet - doesnt know a hole in the ground getting GD or any type of Diabetes, has nothing to do with how well you control your diet, it has to do with how hard the pancreas is already working and how well your blood is allowing the insulin to work. That is just like telling someone with PCOS that all they need to do is diet and it will go away - NO.....PCOS has symptoms of Diabetes - insulin resistance.

okay enough of me on the rampage - that just ticks me off.....i guess coz i have type 2 and am on an insulin pump which does perfect and great for me and my Diabetes is very controlled.

no worries on the meds, will they have you testing your blood sugar regularly? this is the key to maintaining control and making sure you are stable with the meds.....start carrying around snacks in the car, purse, at your desk, etc...

i have them everywhere!

Sarah - all that acne ----- you are having a girl
i had some stange bruising too but it soon disappeared....i think i just bumped into some things when trying to go potty in the dark.
are you taking your prenatal? it should have enough iron, but maybe ask next time at the OB to do an iron test on you, this could lead to anemia if your not careful.

have fun at lunch!

Amy, you really scored on the bottles!! I have heard if you breast feed you need lots to store up because you have to keep pumping. Is that true? My babies will be premature and may be in NICU for awhile after they are born. I have read to begin pumping right away and freeze the milk for when they can be bottle feed. Oh boy, I am in for a crash course on mommyhood!!

I actually bought some of the sleepers on sale at Kohls! I liked the idea that they had zippers and not snaps. This makes it easier when you have many diapers to change each day....or in the middle of the night! The sleepers were 50% off at $6 and then I got 15% off that so they were $5 each!! I bought 9 of them. LOL Eventually they will fit the little ones. They are very cute with animal faces on the feet.

Shelley, I nursed my daughter & happened to make enough milk for triplets! I had to pump constantly & did end up storing lots of milk in the freezer. I had to pump and/or feed every 2 hours, it would fill up too quickly for me to keep up! With your babies in the NICU you'll want to pump as much as you can to stimulate the milk flow & keep it going, drink plenty of water & try to get some rest. Although with 3 babies the resting part may be somewhat difficult!

How wonderfully amazing it will be to have 3! It's going to be so great!

Shelly you don't have to freeze in bottles. you can also use the playtex liners I believe but not positive. I would check I would ask about a lactate specialist at your ob appointment and set up an appointment so you can be prepared it will be a lot of work with triplets and the more you can find out now the better prepared you will feel.

Actually the hospital where I will be having the babies is suppose to have a really good lactation program. I am going to see if I can speak to someone before the babies are born so I can be prepared. I am hoping I can produce lots of milk. It is the best thing for the babies and it will save so much money on formula!! Plus it is about time my breast became useful

I used the medela & avent freezer bags. Although that was 5 years ago. I'm sure they came out with newer stuff now.

Anyway, that's a good idea that you'll speak to someone prior to the babies arrival. You can never have too much information when it comes to this stuff.

Charms- the pill is the glyburide. Thanks for the encouragement. LOL I keep telling my mom she doesn't know what she is talking about! She just doesn't listen at times. She has her good points she just likes to think I should follow her advise with out question.... Hmmm note to self... don't do that. And she worries about everything I put in my mouth (drivin me nuts). Maybe next time she tells me that I will say I guess I don't need my thyroid meds anymore I can just use mind control (She would have fits! How old am i again?)

I really appreciate everyones support you are the best!!!

Shelley- I hope you are able to enjoy nursing I know it can be really hard and not for everyone but it is an awsome experience at times.

I feel like such a mummy novice here. I have no idea about any of this stuff. I don't even know what type of bottle to buy and how to pump etc. Does anyone do classes on this stuff? Are we just meant to guess?? lol

As for the family doctor yesterday...I came away feeling really freaked out. She kept going on about how small I still am and how the uterus is low and I'm not showing etc. How big am I supposed to be at 17 weeks? Of course now I'm convinced the baby is not growing properly and I'm too scared to have the anatomy scan. I told my DH when he phoned from the UK what she said and hes now really angry at her. He told me not to think about what she said and to wait to hear what the OB says on Monday. I know hes probably right but thats easier said than done. The heartbeat is nice and strong and I feel a wee bit bigger, but I'm tall and slim and really didn't expect to show early anyway.

Is there such a thing as the baby not growing but having a strong heartbeat? I'm feeling really worried over here now...I hate my family doctor!

Alana-the family doctor is trained to be a mini expert in a lot of different areas, not an expert like your OB in the area of pregnancy. I am sure your baby is growing and measuring fine. Many, many women do not even show until much later, my aunt did not show until she was 6+ months along, and she is the smallest person I know, she went to the hospital with her pre pregancy pants unbuttoned and went home with them buttoned, sick I know!!! So try not to worry about a stupid comment your doctor said, I don't even trust mine to treat strep throat and see the NP. And I am sure the hb being strong is a reflection on how well you have been taking care of the little one and how much he or she is growing! Are you starting to hear the hb differently, mine has that in out sound and it is amazing! He or she is doing a lot of resting lately though, the heart rate is staying close to 140, even down to 137 this afternoon and not a whole lot of movement when I use it. I might have to use it at night to see if I have a night owl in there! How is your MIL doing? Still sending her prayers!!!

Charms-that is too funny, pimples=girls! I dont know the more I think about it the more I think girl, but we will have to see!

Amy-sometimes moms are the worst, they mean well and want the best for us but just don't know when to be quiet. I think I scared my mom into not giving me advice or saying too many things that might upset me, I flipped out on her back in december when she made the comment if I just stopped trying I would get preggo and I yelled and cried and was pretty scary I am sure, so now I think she's afraid to say much.

Oh and no baby purchases today, darn this feeling of jinxing myself! I am usually a shopaholic and buy waaaay too much! I guess I will just let other people buy me stuff for now.

Hi ladies,
Sorry I've been silent for so long. I was on vacation in Istanbul and have been traveling alot for work. I'm glad to see that everyone's doing so great.

Alana, you shouldn't worry about not showing at all. Several of my friends were almost completely flat at this stage in their pregnancies. I think it was wrong of your physician to scare you. I'm sure your OB will also agree that it's perfectly normal. My friend who has your built didn't really show until the 7th month. Please dont' worry. Everything will be great at your scan. It's so exciting that you will find out the gender of your baby soon.

Amy-I'm sorry that you have to deal with GB. It's not easy to deal with GB on top of everything else that's going on with our lives during pregnancy. I hope you'll feel better soon and don't let anybody tell you that you had anything to do with your condition.

Shelley- Two boys and a girl!!! That's amazing! Sorry I'm a little late but congratulations. I'm very happy for you. She'll be one lucky girl with two brothers looking after her Breastfeeding three can be a challenge but a friend of mine has twins and she breastfeeds during the day and uses formula at night. So there's a grey area.

Sarah- enjoy your vacation! I just got back but already need another one. Traveling overseas by myself was difficult. 12 hour non-stop flights are not designed for pregnant ladies My back is killing me ever since I got back. But it was worth seeing my family and friends and letting them spoil me for a while.

Also, i did go to Once Upon a Child here in Chicago. They had some nice things. We ended up getting a Cubs outfit for the baby ready for next years baseball season My DH was very happy with the purchase. They have alot of brand new stuff. We'll go back once we know the gender. I'm looking at cribs at the moment and about to lose my mind. I'm so confused. But more on cribs later. And strollers! I never thought these would be so hard to buy.

Final note: Anybody else extremely clumsy? I keep losingmy balance and dropping things. I broke my favorite salad bowl and a bottle full of olive oil (major mess) as well as several other dishes in the kitchen. What's up with that??

Amy, when did you find out you have GD? Poor thing, but it is good that they caught it early. I won't be tested until week 24. I am a bit worried about it along with other things but the doctor seems to think they will be able to keep it all under control. I am at high risk because of triplets and my old age...ugh!!

I have been experiencing pimples too. They are on my chin so I try to avoid bright lights when I talk to people LOL I have been clumsy and forgetful lately. I am always dropping things and then I let out this lovely grunt as I bend my prego body to pick it up. Pregnancy can be gross. Who ever said it was sexy??

Alana, don't worry about being new to mommyhood. I am slowly learning things as I read them or hear about it from others. A friend brought over her Medela breast pump for me to use when the time comes. I had never seen one before!!

Ebru, you are so brave to have travelled overseas while pregnant, by yourself!! I am happy to hear you are safely home!

Welcome back Ebru, and yes I am clumsy too. I read that part of it is your hip muscles are repositioning or loosening up or something like that to accomodate for baby...and i think part of mine is just not paying attention to what I am doing...I forget what I am doing or where I am going...takes me so much longer to do anything now!

Shelley-that's too funny about the light, I am not a makeup wearer but I think I may have to start at least wearing foundation....it is getting ugly over here!

alana - dont worry about your size!!! the baby is growing just fine and is probably snuggled in the pelvic area still - just wait until that little one gets to your ribs!

Amy - when i took glyburide, i found that i had many many extreme lows with my blood sugar. be sure to eat complex carbs when you take the pill - that little tiny pill is fast actings - so dont take it on an empty stomach!!! you should also ask for a Glucogon just incase you get an extreme low and need a very fast acting source to bring your sugar up. and keep lots and lots of glucose tablets - okay now i must sound like your mom, sorry! i have just had too many episodes on glyburide with the twins before they put me on insulin.
