Well girls, I am offically miserable. Went to the doctor yesterday because of the shooting vaginal pains and right sided pain I was having that moved around to my back and discovered I have kidney stones. The pain is horrible and although I was against it at first I am definitely taking the painkillers - I don't think it is even bearable otherwise. They said that the medicine is perfectly safe for babies. So, I am unfortunately laid up in bed (only able to do this sitting right when the pill kicks in) and using sick/leave time but there is really no option. Of course this is the one week my dh is out of town but I have a stash of food and drinks and medicines upstairs with me so I should be ok. Just wanted to let you all know why I have been and probably will be MIA for a while!

The good news is that he checked my cervix while I was there and he said that it was long and tight and closed!

Sorry I've been MIA, I've been stuck finishing up my final project for design school (my last semester, yay!) and haven't been online. Anyway, it looks like I missed some great pictures.

Jill, you are glowing and gorgeous. You look so lovely in the black top it makes me want to crawl out of my comfy sweats and actually dress up for a change. Hopefully I'll get a chance in NY. I checked out those sites you mentioned also and I think we've found a cheapish boutique hotel a couple of blocks from Central Park which will be good. Its really just somewhere to sleep comfortably before we head out to see the sites.

Elisa, you look gorgeous too. You girls are putting me to shame...but I'll try to get DH to take a couple of pics while we are away.

Shellie, I'm sorry to hear about the kidney stones. OUCH is all I can say. You take it easy and post when you can to let us know you are doing okay.

Shelley, your DH is a total sweetie, surprising you with the stroller like that. How cute is it going to be when there are three little babies all snuggled up in there. I love the thank-you cards too. It sounds like you are all organized with your baby stuff now. We are almost done too, its now just the little things like bottles, breast-pump etc, which I think we are going to leave until Reed is actually here as I've heard some babies don't take to breast-feeding so you get stuck with an expensive pump you can't use. I think there will be a list of items like this that I will be sending DH out for in the early weeks.

Sarah, thats funny you are using the doppler on your own heart-rate...lol. You and I really are addicts aren't we? I'm still very annoyed at my OB situation, we tried calling for some assistance yesterday but they were as usual really rushed and barely listened. The only thing they ever say is if you are concerned about anything...go to triage in the ER. I mean, how silly is that?? Its no wonder when there is an emergency there are no doctors availalbe, they're too busy dealing with the patients the OB"s can't be bothered seeing. I completely agree that socialized medicine doesn't work, they had it in the UK too and it wasn't much better. The only difference was you could get private care if you wanted it, I really think thats what Canada needs to do.

Christine, you are being very good with the kick counts. I haven't even been told to do that. In fact, my stupid doctor can't even answer my question when I ask how often Reed should be moving. I told her there are days I barely feel him and she just said the scans show everythings fine so don't worry. But still...how often should they move? Its weird though, if I use the doppler I can hear him moving and but sometimes can't feel it. Why would that be?

Its hot here today, which is a first. Not as hot as where some of you girls live, I don't envy you with the heat-waves. I lived through plenty of those in Australia. I could really do with your pool today though Saray, I guess I could go sit in our hot-tub with the water on cool...that could work.

Oh, I also forgot to mention about the baby bedding. I highly recommend buying the Ultimate Crib Sheets like what they suggest in Baby Bargains. I don't know if you girls have tried to remove the sheet from the crib but its really really hard. You have to remove the bumper and pull the mattress almost completely out just to change it, its a total nightmare. So I bought some of these sheets and they are fantastic. They just sit ontop of the cribsheet (you can still see this sheet from below which is great) and they snap around the crib-bars and are really easy to remove. They're also padded and water-proof and seriously the best purchase I've made so far. At 3 in the morning when babies had a wee accident , fighting with bumpers etc to change the sheet just won't make a tired mom happy. So check them out, I bought mine on ebay, you can also get them from Amazon, but select stores do sell them too. Check out the link below.

Shellie-sorry to hear about those kindey stones, my friend had them and ended up in the hospital before she knew what it was because the pain was so bad...she eventually passed them but I know from her experience that it is no picnic. But it is good news about your cervix.

Well I am off to the doctors tomorrow at 5, my appt. got pushed back because they want to do an u/s to check my fluid level due to this seemingly constant wetness I am experiencing. I wasnt worried until driving home and having a vision of all my fluid slowly leaking out and my poor little baby just trying to keep his head in the remaining fluid! How irrational is that?! I figure it stops when I relax and lay down so I figure that is what I will do the rest of tonight and take it easy at work tomorrow...anyone else feeling wetter than normal? Ugh! Where is september?!

Sarah, have you had any more leakage? Could it be urine? Good luck at the doctors tomorrow. I hope it is not your fluid. Although I don't really know if it is normal to lose some at this point or not?

Shellie, Sorry to hear about the kidney stones. That sounds painful. Excellent news about your cervix though. Way to go!!

Alana, I have also read about those crib sheets. I am going to get some. Could you imagine having to change 3 sheets in the middle of the night??? I wish they came in colors...oh well. Sounds like you are getting really organized for the Reed.

shelley-i have had some small spots since coming home but nothing too major...i dont know if it is urine, it doesnt really smell like it...i kinda wish my appointment was earlier but the u/s tech only had late openings, so hopefully the day will fly tomorrow! Oh and when I lay down it is either gone or super small spots on the undies...that gives me some reassurance because i read with PPROM that it gets worse when laying down.

Sarah - ask them to do that fetal fibronectin test when you are there or see if they can do the swab that tests for amniotic fluid - but it sounds more like a UTI beginning. Keep us posted!

nothing here - just really tired and fell asleep during counts for two nights in a row now!

Went to the urologist today and the stone is still there but it is not causing near as much pain or discomfort and he thinks it will pass soon as he says it has traveled and is now down low. Miserable pain and unfortunately nothing they can do for you, especially if you are pregnant. I have not taken the pain medication for a while now but will probably have to do so as he said the pain will return. There was just no option of taking it or not taking it when it was really bad - gosh, I am now scared to death of labor but two people I have talked to who have had them told me that passing the stones is worse than labor so I am going to go with that!!!

Fossie-hope that stone passes soon! My friend said the same thing about it being worse than labor, but hopefully you wont feel a thing!

Amy-sorry to hear about your ear...I am battling a sinus thing and it is no fun to have anything going on with your head, our balance is off enough as it is, we do not need anymore help!
Well my fluid levels look good and they will be calling me tonight with the results, they did a culture for a UTI and yeast infection. The nurse sceduled me for an u/s and at the end of the doctors visit today he said I didnt need it if I didnt want it and I said it would make me feel better and know that I am not leaking amniotic fluid because I was having nighmares and he nonchalantly said, "you are not leaking amniotic fluid." He said it like he was ordering something from a drive through window! And how the heck does he know for sure I am not is what I wanted to ask him but I just said that I hope I wasnt. But the u/s showed him doing just fine, the tech only did a very quick scan and said he looked to be at least a pound and a half but then said high 1's, so I think he is on the lower end of what he should be but we will get a better idea of the weight and growth at the next u/s. So anyway all looks good and hopefully it was just discharge, odd discharge...and I totally forgot to ask my questions and I must look like an idiot to him, but does anyone know what the limit is on how much weight I can lift? I swear everyone around me thinks I am an invalid and wont even let me lift a gallon of milk! Thanks ladies for all the positive thoughts!

Amy, you're younger than me hun and you have a 14 year old...I'm very jealous! But boy do I feel old these days. Its weird, but there are days I realize how old I'm going to be when Reed is 10, 20, 30 etc and it makes me realize it would have been nice to have had him when I was a bit younger...but life doesn't always work out that way does it? I just hope I live a long life and get to see him grow up, go to university, get married etc. DH and I have already realized we will have to keep on top of our own health so we can be around for our children for a long time.

Sarah, your doctor sounds like an idiot like mine. I'm glad it wasn't amniotic fluid, (they would have noticed it was low at the u/s if it was) and I wouldn't worry about the weight of your little one either. He sounds like hes doing very well and its not an exact science anyway. I don't think my OB goes by u/s weight to avoid this problem, as long as hes healthy and moving around well etc then hes fine. Oh, and did you know that if your amniotic fluid was low its a really easy fix? They just inject saline solution (I think its saline) and baby does just fine. So little Jackson will be perfect.

As for imsomnia...add me to that list! I haven't had more than 4-5 hours sleep the last fortnight. I'm sooooo tired, DH thinks its training for parenthood. I think hes right.

I'm off to NY tonight. Its supposed to rain most of the weekend, but I'm just happy to be getting out of miserable grey Toronto for a few days I don't really care about the weather. So I'll be back on next week (I might get on while in NY as we are taking our laptop) so no-one go into labour or anything while I'm away!!

Amy-I already feel like I could take a 3 hour nap and its only 9, good thing we only are here at work for a few hours, but then I have to go get some groceries and then go help my aunt make pasta salad for 200 people for my baby cousins graduation party! Then to get a final fitting on a dress I was having altered for my brother's wedding, I'm not in it but for the first time in my life I have a dress that does not fit in the chest area! And I too am getting that feeling like I don't have anything done and have so much more to buy and organize and coordinate, ahhhhh!

Alana-yeah he is very smart but an idiot when it comes to bedside manner! At first I liked that about him that I didnt have to deal with an overbearing doctor but now when I think about getting close to D-day I get nervous and worried that it will be a horrible birthing experience, hopefully the drugs will help with that!
