Hi ladies!
Well, I had a quick OB appt yesterday and heard the heartbeat on the doppler for the first time! Yea! This really feels real now! Next appt is 4/28- gender scan!

As for the dog issue - my own two cents.... obviously no-one knows for sure how a dog will react, but I do think as owners we know our pets pretty well and will take the necessary precautions with introductions etc. When we brought DD home I was a little anxious about our two border collies..... they're both very high energy but sweet dogs. Anyway, they were and still are great! I thought our boy would be very sweet with dd but turns out he basically ignores her (!) and our girl dog is very attached. I really thought it would be the opposite. Now DD and the female dog play all the time - well, DD crawls all over the dog and covers her with blankets!! So, you'll take it day by day and figure it out. But, I think it usually works out fine!

Anyone getting any cravings? I can't seem to get enough carbs - bread, crackers, chips ....basically anything salty and starchy! ANd I can't stand meat right now either.

I am starting to get really bad reflux/indigestion so I am trying to stick with bland foods. I have definitely been carb happy - an example, I went to a meat & three for lunch and had fried chicken, mashed potatoes, mac and cheese, and corn - ummm green vegetable maybe :-)! I have been pigging out on crackers, cheese, bread, pastas, anything that is not necessarily good for me!

It is odd the little things that make us happy at this point like when they used the doppler and heard the heartbeat and when they did the abdominal ultrasound instead of transvaginal - just things that make me feel like I really am pregnant - although I am going into withdrawal with not hearing the heartbeat for a while and since we didn't hear them well the first time I just can't wait to hear them again - April 14th!

I seriously noticed an increase energy the last 2 days! I got home from work last night, went grocery shopping and then came home and made dinner. I then took out the trash (DP usually does but she had a migraine.) I still went to bed at 9 but I didn't want to push it by staying up later. I am still so cranky at work that I need all the sleep I can get, otherwise my patients and coworkers will start to hate me (If they don't already!

I am really happy about getting more energy because I feel like I am starting to get a handle on my eating. I am very hungry, but I am trying to get the carbs under control (all that bread is no good for anyone!) and get a little more protein - and hopefully curb my weight gain a little. It also means I can cook more and eat out less, which I think has been a big part of my problem. I really do not need to gain 50 pounds with this pregnancy.

My cravings are definitely going away. I still don't have any desire for meat, but salads, fruit, and other fresh things are beginning to sound better than carbs. Which is good for my waistline! The indigestion has been terrible the last few days. I can't believe how badly I always feel like burping....not too professional in the work environment. :-) My m/s has been really bad the past few days, but it feels different now. The nasuea is worse, but I don't feel as tired & run down.

I get to stop Metformin & Prometrium tomorrow, so I'm hoping I feel better without all those meds in my body. Even with all of my doctor's reassurance that the baby doesn't need these medications anymore, I am still so nervous to go off of them. Is everyone else off of Prometrium by now?

I have been off progesterone for about a week now - was really nervous but don't notice anything different! I was bad last night - I have been craving tuna salad and from everything I've read you can have it occasionally so we had the oddest meal - spinach salad with shrimp and tuna salad on a croissant so I guess I am craving a bit healthier foods - the spinach salad with lots of veggies and fruits in it.

I am glad to see that everyone is doing good. I am doing good too, just a little qeasy in the mornings lately but just dry heaves.

I also received a report on my NT scan, I am at no increased risk(which normal risk is 1/250 due to age). I am not having the amnio, the risk of miscarriage is to high for me so I am not doing it no matter what they say.

Hope you all have a good evening. I have to go to try to get a little more work done before heading to the chiropractor. I soooo need cracking!!!

Caroline - how nice that you were able to hear the baby's heartbeat! I hope that the doppler works for us at our next appointment. We have a border collie/australian shepherd mix, so it's good to hear that your dogs adapted well. We also have a blue healer mix, so I am wondering if their herding instincts will kick in. They occasionaly herd our cat.

I have been craving red meat, particularly ground beef. Strange. I have also been craving tomato sauce, which gives me heartburn.

Sorry Amy that I am not much help but I have had friends who had severe morning sickness who used prescriptions to get it under control and they worked well - I think calling your doc is a good idea. I did not have much if any sickness and am really sorry you are going through this!

Tabitha - aren't they the best dogs!? The herding instinct kicks in with our male dog when we push out little one around on the bike/anything that moves. Or when DD pushes her toy vacuum. That's because the real vacuum is this dog's nemesis - he really tries to grab it and attack it! So, when we're zooming around on a toy we just put them in another room. They're not aggressive, just barking at wheels and getting in the way! As I said on my last post, I expected our girl dog to be a bit stand-offish as she's very smart and independant, but she is so sweet and maternal!

BTW - I think I just ate half a watermelon! It was soooooo good, I couldn't stop! At least that is better than half a cake, right!?
I agree about the energy levels - definately back up! Woohoo!

Claudia- Thanks again! Here is my update.
My NT is scheduled for April 11th. My EDD is October 20th, yay!!!

Now, I would like to add my comment on dogs and babies. I have two french bulldogs and they have been our babies since they arrived to rule our house. They started sleeping with us, and this is in between us, super big bed hoggers. DH and I would sleep holding the edges of our bed just to make room for our fur kids and not to disrupt their sleep. This is what happens when you are 'owned' by your pet, lol. For two years, there was no real in our bed and I was getting very annoyed by my mother to be reminded every time she would come over to visit that dogs don't belong in our beds, although she treats them as their granddogs, she was very opposed to us allowing our fur babies sleep with us. Ther human bed was their bed until one day this past August, DH had a bad sunburn in his back after building our deck and I decided right then and there that we would try it to make our dogs sleep in their dog bed next to our bed.
They both whined all night long and their singing went on for 3 days. The second day, they would whine and go to sleep for a little bit, whine,. . .sleep. The third day was less whining. By the 5th day, NO whining at all. DH had to go to sleep in the spare room for the first two nights.
Believe me, I was so tempted and very close to bring them back to bed but I was determined and needed to stay strong to make the transition a successful one.I knew that if I would give in to their whining and bring them to bed, they would expect to do the same every night, also they can cry more than what we can hear

Now, eight months later, Loui and Che (fur babies) go straight to their beds that are next to my side of the bed as soon as they see me crawling in to bed. They love their bed and DH and I are still enjoying our bed to ourselves.

Now, for the baby, I have been told that in order to make the transition easier so your dogs can become familiar with the baby before he/she arrives, is to let them smell/sniff the clothes and part of the bedding that the baby will be wearing when he/she finally comes home from the hospital.

I am not a dog trainer or anything like that but I do expect several days of adjustment when my baby arrives, not only adjustments in the schedule and having a new little being in our house but also, adjustments between my dogs and my baby. Also, dogs feed from your energy, so if you are tense and nervous, your dog will sense that and he/she will act as such. Try to be relaxed when the dogs are around the baby and speak to them and the baby in a happy voice so your pooch will make a connection to the baby.

Good luck everyone!

Have any of you ladies had a problem with becoming forgetful? As of today, I am having a horrible time remembering even the simple parts of my job. It's crazy! I work in a law firm and I do the settlements. I have had to call our main office twice already today asking them if I had already sent signed checks in. I have never forgotten whether I had done that before today. It is so embarassing. The main office doesn't know I am pregnant so they probably are thinking I have sustained some sort of head injury.

Hey Amy -
I've heard of that gender prediction kit. But I don't know anyone who has used it. You'll have to tell us as soon as you get the results...how exciting! And I'm sorry you are still having such bad m/s. Have you spoken with your doctor? Hopefully they can give you some sort of relief!

Amy I am sorry about your M/S. go get the zofran if you need it!

Caroline, I have been craving tomatoes with salt on them. I have had them for every lunch and dinner for 2 days. I am also craving tons of protein, steak, chicken, fish, just give it to me!!!! This makes me happy b/c I haven't gained any weight since last week....decreasing the carbs has really helped!!!!
