Shelly - your post made me laugh! Even with this head cold thing, I was out in shorts planting flowers this weekend because the weather was just too nice. I kept thinking, "enjoy it while you can because 90 degrees won't be so nice when you're 8 months pregnant!" I might be coming to Nashville in June. What will the weather be like?

I keep thinking about this little BBQ we Cali girls kind of talked about so I want to get the backyard in order now while I can.

Hi Holly,
Please count me in. I am looking foward to meet you all. Actually, we have many friends in Stockton that we visit every couple months.
Yesterday I called a nice home day care that I plan to send the little one and was shocked $ 900/month and need to register by September !!! Before even the birth to secure a place.
I am also becoming a shopping maniac. I must stop. But I am still was unable to buy any baby clothes as it also give me the jinx too. On the other hand with my DD I started buying her staff almost the next day I had a home test.

Anybody else realize that their lower stomach has gotten really hard? I can't feel it when I lay down, but when I stand up, it's really hard. Pretty much where your underwear covers. I had DH feel on Saturday after my shower and he wanted to know why it felt like that. I told him "it's your baby"

Holly - Nashville in June is pretty hot! The actual temperature is not much more than 80-85 but it is really humid and I have been to California and was cold in the summer - not ever cold here in summertime! I actually love it hot and am originally from Florida but I work at a camp and hear the complaints about how hot it is often!

When I went to the OB yesterday and he said that I was measuring at 20 weeks it was based on feeling that "hardness" in my belly. He said at 14 weeks it would typically be at the bikini line and for me it was at the belly button which made him say about 6 weeks ahead!

I just spoke with my doctor's nurse and she told me that the 2nd trimester starts after week 12. I was kinda confused because some books and websites say after 12 weeks and some say after 13weeks6days.

I was wondering what y'alls doctor has said about when the 2nd trimester starts. Why the discrepency between 12 weeks and 14 weeks?

I didn't ask, but I decided that once I hit week 13 that was the 2nd trimester mark for me.

Holly, I have been feeling the same in my belly. I keep asking DP to feel it, but I am not sure she is actually feeling it. I think she humors me though.

Fossie you sure look like you are measuring 20 weeks (for a singleton of course) - I really need to buy maternity clothes; I am really starting to grow out of my old clothes. The problem is that they make me look so pregnant and I still feel like such a faker! Does anyone else feel this way? I am not showing enough to really look pregnant but maternity clothes just accentuate the pregnant look. Part of the problem I think is that I have always ahd a pot belly anyway and it is hard for me to try to accept that it is bigger without the true "pregnancy bump"...I hope I really start to pop out soon so it will be undeniable and I can embrace it.

The best explanation I have heard is that if you divide 40 weeks by 3 you get 13.3 so that would officially be the end of the first trimester. I have no clue why there is not just one definition - just like some people say that I am 14 weeks now and some say I am in my 15th week - crazy confusing! My doctor at this last appt. finally said well, you are in your 2nd trimester.

My loving, oh so tactful dh last night said well, you always had a gut but you can tell now that you are definitely pregnant - nice, let's not call it a gut please - potbelly, rounded tummy, pooch, even PCOS symptom - are much better!

Claudia - I'm totally there with you! I have a bit of a chunky middle section and while I can tell it's grown...I just look like I've been packing on extra pounds. I, too, am so looking forward to actually showing a preggers belly! I'm struggling with clothes right now as well. The maternity clothing are either too big or way too obvious (since I still haven't told many people). But most of my regular clothes are beginning to really hug around the middle. I'm getting creative with layering! :-)

I've been a little anxious lately, so my wonderful doctor is going to see me on Friday. I don't know if she'll do an ultrasound or just check for the heartbeat...either is great with me. I just need a little reassurance since my pg symptoms are gone (which I know happens around this time).

My doctors have all said that 14 weeks marks the beginning of the 2nd trimester...so today I am officially out of the 1st trimester! How exciting! I'm so glad everyone is doing well!

Shellie, that's lovely. I would love to be told I have a gut too. Such a feminine word..so delicate.

I was talking to a coworker today and she said just buy new clothes and wear them and you'll look pregnant - so what you are and you should celebrate that. I go home and think about that. I would really like to be able to embrace that right now. I spent so much effort last year to drop 20 pounds and it is jsut hard to see the tummy come back without obvious evidence there is a baby in there. hmmmm.

Laura good luck with your appt on friday!

Claudia - I compltely agree - I look alot more pregnant with a tented or flowy top on and it makes me feel better to have people ask questions about the pregnancy rather than give me a doubletake (if it is someone I see pretty regularly) and have them trying figure out if I am or if I'm not. It is really amazing but the cut of the clothes and buying actual maternity shirts makes a big difference in the look of the "bump." I have come to terms with and will admit that I have a noticeable bump now but when I wear fitted shirts or longer non-pregnancy shirts or even the bella band with a regular shirt I don't look near as preggo. I was talking to dh last night about how we need to try to pull out of this is it or isn't it true mode and embrace the fact that we are pregnant and at this point (2nd trimester) most "normal" people would be telling the world and nobody keeps it a secret this long so I say celebrate being 14+ weeks with some maternity clothes!

Sounds like we are all dealing with the same thing. For me, once we made it to 11/12 weeks and started telling people who didn't know yet, I've worried less about if I look fat in things.

Before then I was very self conscious about hiding the belly. Now, some things make me way more pregnant than I am, some look like a bump and some just make me look fat but I don't really care anymore. I guess since people who know me see it as a bump, I suddenly don't care what strangers think when they see me. Kind of weird!

I've been wearing maternity pants for about 2 weeks, and they are so much more comfortable. I started wearing maternity shirts last week, and they definitely show the belly, which I am okay with. Although I will be glad when my belly looks more like a baby bump and less like too many cheeseburgers!
