Rennae, sorry to hear about Avery having to wear braces. I do think once she has them on, she will adjust to sleeping on her back due to the comfort issue.

I usually let Avery cry a good 20 minutes before I intervene. However, she has a few different kind of cries. I can usually tell if something is WRONG or if she's just tired and fighting sleep. There is what's called the pick up/put down method. That's where you go in, pick him up just until he stops crying, then immediately put him back down. You basicly do that until he wears himself out and goes back to sleep. Do you have him on a schedule?? I've read that's key to sleeping through the night. I think it's truly up to you how long you're comfortable letting him cry, and if it's a fighting-sleep cry, or something-wrong cry. It's tough.

Hi Rennae -
It's interesting how different the babies are. Linnea is a 'roller' now. I always put her down on her back and I know when she's about to fall asleep because she'll roll onto her side. Then sometime later, she'll roll all over the place. She alternates from back, front, both sides, and moves all over the crib. I suspect Avery will soon start rolling, too, and then she can find a position herself that is comfortable. It's just a matter of a few days/weeks I would say. Hang in there!

for those who use CIO, let me ask about your napping experience..
So we're still doing it and it is AWESOME!, but the naps don't go as well. At bedtime, I don't nurse to sleep anymore and everything goes great. She barely even cries anymore. If she does it is weak and only for a few minutes. Naps are a totally different story though. I've been listening to her for 30 minutes now. I can she's almost too tired to continue crying, but she is anyways. She's not really napped all day due to our schedule, so I know she is beyond tired...she's so stubborn sometimes though! Right now she goes back and forth b/t really screaming and whining/complaining. What have been your experiences with naps and CIO?

Melissa - is she crying at the very beginning of the nap, or after sleeping a while then crying?? We've always had to rock Avery until she's good and tired, then lay her down. Ususally she's out, but then wakes after about 45 minutes. I always let her cry a good 20 miutes before I go in, unless it's one of her "something is really wrong" cries. Usually, she'll put herself back to sleep. Sometimes, she doesn't and we just go ahead and get her up. Do you have a routine as to when her naps are and doing the same thing each time before laying her down?? Some days Avery just naps far better than others. Lately, we've had a more difficult time getting her to go to bed at bedtime. She ends up playing in her crib for a while after we lay her down, then crying until we come in and rock her a while.
We're still waiting on her braces to arrive, should be in by the first of next week. We're still putting her to sleep on her belly, I guess we'll deal with the sleeping on the back when we just have to...

No, we can't move on yet! I post under the Winter Babies thread a bit more than here simply b/c it is more active, but I still need my due date buds!
Rennae, those pics of Avery are soooo cute! I posted a response on your other thread. I see she's in the big tub. How long have you been doing that? What is that mat she's sitting on? Where did you get it? I still like Marlee's baby bathtub b/c it saves on water, but it is good to know what you're doing when she outgrows it. So, DH lost his position Friday...we are currently a zero income household. My moms' group friends have really rallied around though and DH's resume has been blasted off to many of them with husbands in the software/tech industry. He's got a meeting with a recruiter in Boston tomorrow to discuss 2 positions at different firms. This is a very scary time for my family. Between this and all the other tests we've been given, if we can make it through this, we can do anything together. This company moved us up here about 2 yrs ago, away from all friends and family with a cost of living that is about double what we experienced in the south and a house that is almost 3x more expensive...scary times... Marlee's doing great. She's tried scrambled egg and cheese now too...very small amounts but she really liked it. Today I gave her a taste of clam chowder and she loved it! I made her own baby indian food (baby dal) the other day. I massed up lentils and mixed it with homemade carrot puree with a touch of apple puree and added mild curry seasoning. She absolutely loves it!...and no side effects. I am having so much fun with solids and so far Marlee has liked everything. What are your LOs eating? liking? disliking? any fun recipes to share?

Melissa - we've only been doing the big tub a few days now, but Avery just loves it. The mat is just a plain bath mat, but it's purple with cinderella all over it. I got it in the baby bath section at Wal-mart. Avery likes all fruit, but hates my homemade vegetables!! She used to like them, but for some reason she now gags!! I bought the exact same veggies as the already-made baby food, and she loved them!! I don't know what I do so differently to my food, but jeez!! So, I have a frezzer full of squash, peas etc that I hope she one day decides to like...
You said you gave Marlee eggs?? Did you scramble the whites and all, or just the yolks?? My pedi said we couldn't do egg whites until one year. I'm impressed by all the foods you've tried with her. After her response to the yogurt I'm scared to try anthing out of the ordinary. Sorry about your DH's job, I can't imagine how stressful that must be. I will keep you guys in my thoughts and prayers. I'm sure he'll get a job soon. Oh, and I agree on keeping up the thread!!

Oh Melissa, I am so sorry about your DH's job. We certainly are living in tough times. I will be
for an even better job to come to him VERY soon!Rennae, Avery is too cute! She has a delightful smile.... cheecks! Clara has had scrambled eggs, but only the yolks and she really likes them. I also hard boil eggs and give her the yolk in little pieces. Another fav is cottage cheese. She still wont eat mushy baby food stuff. Everything she eats must have texture or chunks in it. We are in Seaside OR for the month of June. I will try to post some beach pics, but right now my camera is out of batteries and I can't find the charger .Nice to see you guys on here! Take care! Kay

Rennae, how are Avery's braces going? How's the back sleeping going?
Marlee clapped today!! It was so stinkin' cute! She did it out of nowhere when a friend and I were laughing about something. Marlee pretty much eats anything and everything. I've even made a "baby dal" Indian recipe with curry! I've given her tastes of scrambled egg, peanut butter, kiwi. I make a great bit of her food for her. I can't wait til she's on to finger foods so she can eat more of our own food. I don't mind making her's though. It is fun, I think. Any of your LOs eating finger foods yet?

We get the braces on Monday, it's taking forever. We're not back sleeping yet, and I honestly don't know if we will. I was talking to one of the doctors I work with and she said she thinks the braces will hold Avery's feet in position, regardless of how she is laying. So, if she can lay comfortably on her belly, we'll probably try that. If she can't, I don't know... I'm still pretty careful about what I feed Avery, after her reaction to the yogurt... And she's decided she hates my homemade veggies. She'll eat the fruit, but she gags on the veggies!! I bought the exact same foods as the already-made babyfood and she loves it all, so I guess I have a freezer full for nothing!!
Is anyone doing the biter biscuits?? Avery's getting her third tooth in, this one's on top, and it's driving her crazy. I'm wanting to try some of those, but not sure what age is appropriate. I give her lots of fruit in the mesh bag, she loves that. Are everyone's LO's crawling?? Avery can't figure out how to get on all four. Anyway, it's been awful quiet lately, would love to hear how everyone is doing!!

Melissa- how cute that Marlee clapped. I love all the new tricks!
Rennae- I have been wondering how the braces were going. I sure hope Avery can still sleep comfy on her tummy! It has been quiet here. Clara is doing well. Pretty much all she would eat is finger foods, but now she is eating more from a spoon. I'll be darned if she will nap though. I went to a high risk OB for a pre conception evaluation after pre eclampsia complications with all of my pregnancies.... I got the green light to go ahead and have a FET. He said I could only transfer one embie, but that is fine by me. I think we will try again in Sept or Oct. I am excited, but it will mean I have to wean Clara from BF SOON. I am sad about that. I hope you are all well! Kay
