Margaret, what a special way to honor sweet Calvin. You have shown such strength and courage through your ordeal and Georgia is so lucky to have such wonderful parents.

Margaret - that is just amazing!!
Well, Avery's braces seem to be going well. We've had to tweak them some, but I think they finally fit fairly well. We had to line them with sheepskin because they were rubbing her heels. She has to wear socks under the braces to absorb sweat and over the braces because she's already figured out how to get them off. So, I thinl they are hot, but we keep the house cool and she really doesn't seem to mind them. We see her podiatrist on Monday, hopefully he'll be pleased. Hope everyone is doing well and staying cool, Arkansas is HOT these days!!!

Rennae- I can just picture little Avery getting those braces off.... what a smart baby! I am glad you are both adjusting.
Daney- I am sorry to hear Parker is suffering with teething. I hope it is over soon so you both can sleep! Well it is official... Clara is now in the crawling crowd. I feel like I am just running around making sure she isn't into dangerous stuff. Talk about house cleaning.... this takes it to a whole new level. I guess I had forgotten how busy baby (and now momma) can be! Hope everyone is doing well!! Kay

Rennae - so glad to hear Avery's braces are fitting better. What a trooper she is!
Daney - sorry Parker's still having teething and sleep issues. Our time is coming soon, I know! Kay - congrats to Clara and good luck to you! Like Daney, I know our time is soon coming for crawling. I'm SO not ready. We haven't babyproofed anything at all and I'm nervous she's going to suddenly start climbing the furniture! Oy...

Kristen- You must be getting ready and excited for your cruise. I want to hear a full report when you get back so I can anticipate what I should expect for ours in August.
Is Linnea showing signs of getting ready to crawl? Is she up on hands and knees rocking? It was about three weeks from the time Clara did that to actually getting somewhere. It sounds like you aren't in the teething department either. Clara has NO choppers, yet she wants to eat chunky foods. I am hoping the teeth come soon so I am not so worried about her eating. Kay

Kay - Linnea doesn't even commando crawl yet and isn't able to hold her belly up off the ground by herself. About once a day, she focuses really hard and tries to pull her belly off the ground, but her bottom half is firmly rooted to the ground. She hasn't figured out yet how to get her knees up under her. But I've noticed the past few nights that she's been sleeping with her knees tucked up and under her - maybe she's starting to get the idea. I figure I have another month but I probably just jinxed myself! Still, I'm hoping she'll wait until after the flight/cruise to get mobile, you know?
Nope, no teeth yet. I thought one was coming because she has a little white dot, but when we saw the Ped the other day, she said it wasn't a tooth. I forgot to ask what it was! Oh well. Hearing the sleep issues babies start having when they're teething, I'm glad she's delayed in that department...Maybe she'll wait until I stop working, so I could nap during the day after a bad night's sleep... One can hope!

I know once Avery starts crawling we'll be in trouble, but I'm so jealous of all of your LO's getting around!! I just think it will be adorable!! I don't have the house baby-proofed at all either (glad I'm not the only one!!), so that'll definately have to be done!! We leave Avery's braces off for a few hours a day, which is the only time she really gets to play on her belly. She CAN lay on her belly with them on, but they're just too bulky to really get around or do much. I think once she learns to crawl she'll just adapt to them and get around just fine, but I don't see her learning to crawl while she has them on. She can't figure out how to get up on all four. As soon as she gets up on her arms, her legs straighten out. She'll get it when she's ready, I just love each new thing!!
Avery has three teeth all the way in, and three more coming in right now!! Honestly though, she does pretty well. She's a little fussy, goes from really happy to really cranky in an instant, but she sleeps well and isn't nearly as fussy as I would probably be!!

So, we're well over the 1/2 yr mark Mamas...what do you think of motherhood (whether this is your first run or you this is a repeat)? Is it harder/easier than you thought? What challenges have surprised you? Any lessons learned? What would you do differently next time? What are your special joys?
What are your LOs doing now? Any words yet? Mama, Dada? Crawling? Pulling up? Teeth? How are solids going? Favorite foods, intense dislikes?

Georgia is crawling now, has two teeth and has called me Mama twice. I cried the first time she did it...Although I'm a repeat mommy, I love love love it. She is such a good, relaxed, easygoing baby for the most part, such a smiley happy girl. So far she still gets four bottles a day and one meal of cereal, a veggie and a fruit. I've just moved her onto the stage two babyfood so it's a little thicker and so far the only thing she doesn't seem to like is peas. She got over the fruit thing about a week ago and is gobbling up fruit like nobody's business. She loves to cuddle and crawl around on the floor and had her first boo boo after crashing face first into her plastic triangle toy. Georgia is a pretty good sleeper too, has slept through the night since ten weeks and is still doing great despite the fact that we stopped swaddling her about a month ago. She absolutely needs her lovey and a soother to go to sleep though and will cry and get mad if she doesn't have her lovey to rub against her nose while she's drifting off...And she's really, really chubby. LOL

Clara turns 9 months tomorrow!! I remember babyhood going by fast with my other ones, but this is rediculous!! Clara is still toothless, but is doing very well in the eating department despite no choppers. We are still BFing, but we need to wean VERY soon because we are starting the TTC thing. I have an apt tomorrow with my RE for a uterus check and a schedule
. Clara is VERY busy. She is crawling around and getting into everything. She is pulling up on furniture, but isn't very good at it so she has lots of spills. I am so in love with that little gal! My heart sings whenever is look at her! I love hearing about your los too! Is anyone going to join me in attempting for a spring to summer '10 baby? Kay

Avery has 6, yes 6!!, teeth. She dosen't crawl, though she scoots and rolls her way around. She LOVES to eat, the only thing she doesn't like is the homemade baby food. She likes just about everything we've tried from the jar. She hasn't said any words yet, but she does babble mamamamama often. She sleeps beautifully, naps beautifully and is just a very happy baby - so long as people she doesn't know doesn't hold her. I'm trying to get her enrolled in a mother's day so she can overcome her anxiety of other people.
Her first 8 months have just flown, and I would love to do it all over again anytime, it's just a matter of convincing DH. It has been much harder than I thought it would be, especially the first few months. The main thing I would do, and will do if we have another, differently is to have her on a schedule from the moment we arrived home. Once Avery was on a schedule, the change in her was drastic. I work in Labor and Delivery and last night we had a very sad situation occur. I'm fairly used to having bad things happen around there, unfortunately it's the reality of it. But it just really made me hold Avery just a little tighter this morning when I got home. We are so, so blessed to have our LO's. I try to remember that each and every day. Lots of women aren't as fortunate.
