MMmm..Mac & cheese sounds yummy. Now you're talking! I don't do the whopper thing! lol

I have a question... When I went to the doctor April 4th they took blood to test for a whole bunch of different stuff. The doctor also ordered a beta number test (I don't know what it's really called). If something shows up wrong or my beta is really low, they will call, right? How long does it usually take?

If they did the test April 4th and you haven't heard anything, then there's nothing wrong. That was your 1st Ob appt, right, if it was they always do a lot of bloodwork, and then you never hear about it again until its time for you to do bloodwork again. I just looked back at your siggy, you had an u/s that day, once you've had an u/s they don't really bother with the beta #'s, if something was wrong, they would've saw something on the u/s.

Daney ~ I'm sorry about your headaches, and I'm sorry that you're feeling lonely too. I know exactly what you're going through. DH and I just moved from Georgia (where I've lived my whole life) to New Hampshire last June. I don't have any family or friends here. I have one neighbor friend who is wonderful about inviting me to lunch sometimes, but other than that...no life anymore. I am a teacher, but I'm not working here yet b/c we knew we were going to start trying for a child together once we got here and I didn't see the point to only working a year. So anyways, I'm used to having work colleagues, friends, and family around...and here I've managed to survive (basically by myself) the most horrible "never-ending-winter" of my life...I really know what you mean about feeling alone and wanting someone who loves you to take care of you too. If I were in "BFE" (LOL) Ohio with you, I'd make you some mac-n-cheese...

Anybody craving citrus/sour flavors? I stopped by the store this afternoon after returning from my new OB (MUCH nicer than the last one BTW) and picked up some sorbet (citrus rainbow flavor) and some Seirra Mist Free. I made myself a little float and it was super yummy. It was cold, citrusy, and only had 100 calories...mmmm...

I miss work too...actually, I miss having a life outside of this house!!!! Where is "home"?

As for the OB appt...I met with the NP and will meet with my OB next time. The NP was so sweet and patient. She answered all of my questions without looking like she was rushed. Little side note to my story....Do any of you wear contacts? I'm out and have been out for a long time. I have been wearing my glasses, but wanted to get contacts again for the summer so I could wear sunglasses. Turns out (found this out today at the doctor's) that it is not recommended that pregnant ladies wear contacts b/c the shape of the eye actually changes and contacts can be very uncomfortable. Anybody else finding this to be true right now? I guess I'll have to change to transition lenses for now...anyways, This practice used to be a part of the practice that I just left but they split years ago. The NP understood exactly what I had gone through and was VERY sympathetic to my need to switch OBs. She said that there was no way she was going to be able to find the heart beat with the monitor today, but she went to check with the u/s tech to see if she could do a quick one...OF COURSE!! Of all days, the tech was in a meeting outside the office and wasn't there to do it...she assured me that there is no reason to suspect that anything is wrong since my bbs are still sore and I'm still feeling the pulling/twingy sensations every now and then...I really wish I had been able to have something more concrete than that, but I guess I'll have to wait until the 23rd. I have to keep reminding myself that, aside from lucky dog Kristen , most of us don't get to have ultrasounds all the time. Most women don't even have their first OB appt until between weeks 8 and 10, so I'll have to be okay with that for now.

Thanks for asking

That's what I thought too about the beta #'s, but the doc said that since I was earlier than he thought I'd be, he wanted to check the beta #. But I guess if I haven't heard anything yet, I shouldn't worry. Thanks!

I wore contacts throughout my first pregnancy without a problem at all. I wasn't allowed to wear them in the hospital when I went into labor because they don't want them in your eyes in the event of an emergency C. This time it's not an issue because I had lasik surgery after my 1st child.

Melissa - you're totally right about the fact that most pregnant ladies don't even have their first u/s until near the end of their first trimester. Heck, most of them don't even know they're preg until 6-7 weeks probably. Must be nice to be so naive and innocent to all the stress we're undergoing, huh? Just think how cool the u/s will be on the 23rd - you'll be able to see SO much by then! I cannot wait to hear about it.

Also, have you ever considered lasik? I did it in '04 and it was one of the best things I've ever done! I think you'd be ok continuing to wear your contact lenses, though. Just take them out if they get uncomfortable...

Thanks for sharing your experiences Laurie and Kristen. I think I'm going to call and find out if someone will give me a new prescribtion while I'm pregnant. I like my glasses, but I like contacts more...Lasik would be great. I've thought about it for years, but I just need to go and get more info. It seems to be such much less expensive now than it used to be too. I'm blind as a bat without corrective lenses.

Kristen ~ I totally agree that it would be so much easier not to know some of the things I know. When our mother's were pregnant with us, they didn't know anything (compared to these days) about their babies until they were born. I know it isn't the end of the world that I didn't get any information about my baby yesterday. I was/am just a little disappointed. I have no choice but to remain positive over the next 2 weeks, and in a way it is kind of freeing. You're also right about how awesome it really will be when I do finally get to see my little peanut.

Done with shots!

Yeah! I've taken my last shot...deep sigh of relief! My prog yesterday was 44 (on OHP 170 weekly shot) and estrogen 967 (on only 2 patches), so they said I don't need to take the shot next week since I'll be past 10 weeks and I've been above 20 for 2 weeks in a row. I will still go in on Fridays to check prog and est for a few weeks, and they'll probably take me down to 1 patch next Friday, then wean me off it by 12 weeks. The most exciting thing is no more shots! Yeah! I cannot say I'll miss them... I've filled up way too many sharps containers already...

Wonderful news Kristen!! I bet your butt with thank you...LOL

I feel the need to whine for a minute...I really like to cook, but lately, I couldn't care less if my whole family starved to death...okay, I care...I just REALLY don't feel like cooking (or cleaning, or doing laundry, etc). The worst part is that I'm not even working anymore...so I feel really guilty, but I am sooo tired. We've had 2 nice days this week (one day got up to 65 degress..woohoo!! heat wave!!!) and I was much more motivated then. Is it just the pregnancy or is it seasonal depression? (I HATE this northern winter crap!!!! I don't know how people do it) What are you girls doing for dinner's lately? I feel like I'm making more processed/prepared meals lately...ya know, the "heat and eat" kind? I have a stuffed chicken recipe to make tonight...I really don't feel like making it, but I don't have a back up plan tonight (I used my back-up plan last night). I know that this is really not a big/bad problem, I'm just wondering if I'm the only pregnant lump out there. If I were alone, I'd just eat some cottage cheese and some fruit for dinner and be fine. I'm pretty sure DH and DSS will want more than that

You are not the only pregnant lump out there. I can't find the mojo to do anything. Tonight will be the third time this week that we are ordering take out. My poor son had to eat peanut butter and jelly for dinner. None of us have much in the way of clothes left because all the laundry is piled high in the laundry room. I keep saying maybe tomorrow.

I hear you! If you haven't tried them already, definitely consider the steam fresh frozen veggies. They cook in the microwave in just a few mins and they're so fresh and yummy. That's a quick way to get your family their veggies. Then, consider cooking a bunch of chicken breasts ahead of time (or steak, or other meat if you eat it) so you can serve up some protein quickly. For carbs, I just discovered flavored risotto in a package (I know, I try to avoid those things, too, but in a pinch...). It's really good. And they have rice, tabouli, etc., too.

You may also want to ask your dh and dss (if he's old enough)to take at least a night (or maybe two or three) to cook for the family. They'll need to get used to helping out once the bambina/o comes :-)

good luck!
