Despite all these flawed test result horror stories, I'm still doing all the tests I can. Let the new wave of neuroses begin!

My mom is coming with me to the NT scan tomorrow. She is going to go crazy when she sees her first grandchild on the ultrasound for the first time. I suspect the technology is much more advanced than it was 25 years ago when she was pregnant with my brother....

Hey guys! I've been lurking every night, but I've been too tired to post. I still am too tired so if I ramble or something do worry..

Glad everybody seems to be doing good!

I had my appointment last week and everything looked great. We didn't hear the heartbeat but we saw it beating strong. The doctor said that everything looked wonderful. The "baby blob" is measuring two days ahead at one angle and THREE days ahead at another. Little fatty!

I don't think they will do another u/s at my next appointment, but I wish I could hurry up and have another one. I want to see something that actually looks like a baby. I felt silly showing off my u/s pictures because you can't really tell what it is. I told everybody that it might just be a blob right now, but it's mine and I love it. My little sister says it's the cutest blob she's ever seen!

My worst symptom now is being sooooo tired. Everyday I sit at my desk at work and fight to keep my head up.

Leah ~ It's good to hear from you again. I'm sorry to hear that you're feeling so tired though. I hope that passes soon for you. For me, my fatigue started to dissipate about week 9.

So let me ask some "questions of the day"...

1. Do you have any traditions for new babies in your family?
2. What can't you wait to do with your child?
3. What theme(s) are you thinking about for your nursery?
4. Will you find out the sex of your baby? Why or why not?

1. My family has the tradition of planting trees for new babies. My parents planted trees for both me and my brother. I've planted a cherry tree for my baby. My mom and step-dad have also planted a tree for the baby in their yard.
2. I daydream all the time about gardening and taking nature walks with my child.
3. For a girl ~ our theme will be cherries, for a boy ~ probably safari animals.
4. We will find out the sex. As exciting as finding out after the baby is born is, it is SO much more convienent to find out beforehand. I'd rather be able to register for either boy or girl items instead of everything in green/yellow.

Kristen - Congrats on your little boy. How exciting to already know.

Chandra - Your NT scan sounds great. It must've been so much fun to see your little one again.

Eggy - You are not the only one gaining weight - I've gained 5-7 lbs. Not sure what is from stims and what is from the babies because I haven't weighed myself in so long but I'm definitely getting a bump. I'll be at the maternity store soon.

My NT scan is tomorrow with my high-risk OB, and probably the bloodwork as well. Unless something looks really, really bad I'm not planning on CVS or amnio. I'm just having faith that my babies are perfectly healthy.
Also today is my last day of suppositories and patches...YAY

Glad to see everyone is doing so well.

So let me ask some "questions of the day"...

1. Do you have any traditions for new babies in your family?
2. What can't you wait to do with your child?
3. What theme(s) are you thinking about for your nursery?
4. Will you find out the sex of your baby? Why or why not?

1. Naming babies for deceased relatives, usually using the first letter of the person's name. For boys, a bris. And, for the new mother, jewelry!
2. Among other things, I can't wait to teach my child to read and share my love of books with him/her.
3. I'm not so much with the themes. I'm more focused on the decor being pretty and comfortable. The theme itself will be provided by the child as his/her taste and personality develop. But, I love the idea of painting the room ice blue if it's a girl, and since we are dog obsessed, I'm sure something dog-related would be integrated into a boy's room.
4. Absolutely! Everyone asks, "Well, don't you want to be surprised?" Um, it's going to be a surprise WHENEVER I find out. I'm going to get that information eventually anyway, so why wait?

A friend of mine is diabetic and always has to monitor her insulin levels, so every once in a while I will have her check mine. At 9 weeks pregnant, I had her check mine after we ate lunch it had been about 2 hours after Subway and it came back at 144 so it worried me some. I told my OB at my appt on Monday and she had me come in and do my one hour glucose test yesterday, they called me this morning and I had failed! They dont want to see anything over 135 and mine was 154. Now I have to go Monday & do the 3 hour test. I am just thankful I am catching this early in the pregnancy before it gets to be a huge problem for the baby. Your normal test is not until 18-24 weeks I hate to think how high it would of been had I waited. Once I fail the 3hr test and I really think I will, I will have to take nutrition classes. I just hope I can get it under control before I am full fledge diabetic during pregnancy.

So to all of you that may have risk factors for diabetes, whether it runs in your family, or you are obese, or have high blood pressure, you may want to ask about being tested early, it never hurts to ask.

My mom is a diabetic, but I've never had any problems during pregnancy, I also had to take nutrition classes during both pregnancies because I don't gain enough weight during pregnancy. Im interested to see if I gain a sufficient amount of weight during this pregnancy, since I just recently started gaining weight before I got preggers.

Danielle ~ I'm really sorry to hear that DM might be a problem for you during this pregnancy. You're right though, it is really a great thing that you found this out early. What do the nutrition classes do for you? Can't you just follow a DM friendly diet? I don't know anything about DM during pregnancy but my oldest step-son was dx a little more than a year ago with Type I (insulin dependant). It is really hard for him b/c he's not exactly the most compliant child in general.

Who was talking about being spacey the other day? Well, I didn't think I was having too much of a problem with that until my OB's office called this morning to make sure I was okay. D'OH!! I've been thinking for a month now that my appt today was at 1 pm, turns out it was at 10:20 am!!!!! I feel like such an idiot!! I'm really not this type of person and I even get very nervous if I feel like I'm going to be late somewhere. To miss an appt all together? So they were nice enough to allow me to come in tomorrow at 11:40 instead. I feel so stupid and terribly guilty for wasting my doctor's time too. I haven't even met her in person yet, what a great impression right?

Eggy ~ I like your tradition of getting new jewelry as a new mom!! Maybe I can "suggest" that be a new tradition for my family? LOL

1. Do you have any traditions for new babies in your family? Hmm, we don't rally have any,, this is the first grandchild,, maybe we will start a new tradition!!!

2. What can't you wait to do with your child? Just play with him/her,, just see them smile and just be with them as the experience everything

3. What theme(s) are you thinking about for your nursery? Well we will be moving in october,, our lease is up and we really want a house,, so we prob wont decorate till later, but I love polka dots and stripes for girls,, and animals for boys!!

4. Will you find out the sex of your baby? Why or why not?Of course I am so inpatient,, I cant wait for that U/S!!

Daney ~ The babybeat website says there's is the only one that is FDA approved for safe use throughout the pregnancy. I'm assuming, based on that, that it is okay for continued use. I'll probably try to limit mine to once a day or once every other day. I can totally see how it can be addictive though. Mine should be here by the end of the week. We went ahead and ordered the "uber" one that records and displays the beats/min. Can you imagine having to count the beats/min? That seems WAY too difficult. Maybe that's just me, but I'd rather be able to see the count on the display.

Melissa, I guess the Ob's just want you to have the nutrition classes to be sure you are advised of what you need to do to control the diabetes. I think its so it can't come back & bite them in the butt if you dont follow a diet on your own. Once you are told what to do and you dont do it, its not thier fault.

I think I will find it helpful though because obviously I am doing something wrong.

I think I will find it helpful though because obviously I am doing something wrong.

Sometimes its nothing that you do wrong but that your body just doesnt coporate,, dont beat yourself up,, with the early dx,, and monitoring you and your baby will be great,, you just might not get all the icecream

Daney's right, Danielle, I don't believe for a second that you're doing anything different than any of the rest of us. This is not within your control really...the diet is, but not the fact that you might have DM. And your point about the nutrition class makes perfect sense too.
