Carina, I am sorry your saga with SIL is continuing. It might be tough but I think you are going to have to tell her she can not come and visit unless she is positive no one is sick. I think even if they have no germs you can do without the drama and stress that she brings to you. This is your time to focus on the health of your babies and she knows it she is just ignoring it.

Roxane you should not be lifting 20 lbs. I was told not to lift anything over 10 lbs even though it is almost impossible to do....

Either next week or the week after I get another measuremment scan to see how big the babies are. I can't wait to find out. I hope they are doing well. Next Wednesday we go for a tour of the hospital where I will be delivering and check out the NICU. My MIL bought me a book on breastfeeding and was telling me how easy it was for her and how she can teach me everything I need to know. I have always know I would give breastfeeding my best shot but now I am getting some anxiety over it.

I agree with Roxane. Peoole don't get it. We have worked to long and hard, not to mention the money we have spent to deal with people that only think of themselves. I would defiantly tell her to stay away, maybe she can come next time when her DD isn't sick!!

If you need me to call and tell her just that, I will. lol Hang in there!

Thank you ladies. I watched this video on youtube with 26wk triplets & after that called my SIL & left her a long winded message explaining why they could not come. I am not messing around & I am standing up for myself & these babies. They are not ready to be born yet & can not be born safely yet, so I need to be extra careful... I can't wait until I reach the 30's. I will be able to rest so much easier. Anyway my SIL got back to me today & said she totally understood - no drama, thank goodness!

Shelly,
I have the book "Mothering Multiples', by Karen Kerkhoff Gromada. My mom, a board certilified international lactation consultant & nurse (IBCLC) bought it for me. It is the only book you should need to prepare for breastfeeding triplets. I have glanced through The Art of Breastfeeding & a few other classics, but they just do not apply to us. Breastfeeding triplets is going to be a whole new ball game. I have to tell you though that you can do it! From reading posts on the TC & this book I think the most important thing is that you get the babies to the breast because pumping, then bottlefeeding is double the work & we don't need any additional work with triplets to care for! You are lucky because you are well on your way to having 34+weekers, which is when they get the sucking reflex. That means they should not need bottles from the beginning & therefore not have any nipple confusion working against you. There will be hurdles, but if you take advantage of the IBCLC at the hospital & possiblly meet with your local LLL Leader now you will do great with the proper support. I wish you (& I) allot of luck in this area.

Carina, that is great news that your SIL understands and there was no drama!! YAY!

Thank you for the breastfeeding advice. I will get that book. My MIL bought me a basic one and there is a small paragraph on BF twins...hummm. The hospital where I will be delivering apparently has one of the best lactation programs in southern CA. I plan to take advantage of it while in the hospital.

Hey all,

I have read through every page of this thread to get familiar with you all and glean all of the wonderful information you have to give. I am in the same boat as Jen, in that we put in two and have a set of identicals and a fraternal. We saw three beautiful HB last Thursday and am very excited about my next u/s a week from tomorrow. This whole thing seems so incredibly overwhelming and I guess we are looking at this whole situation cautiously because I understand that a large percentage of triplets will reduce to two or one in the first trimester.

Well I hope everyone had a wonderful 4th of July weekend and I can't wait to talk to you all more about triplet pregnancies!

Ana

Ana, congratulations on expecting triplets!! It is very overwhelming in the beginning. This is definitely a great place to get lots of support and advice! I too was told that one or two might vanish but at each u/s there they all were growing strong!! I wish you all the best and I look forward to cheering on your progress and answering any questions!!

Ana it's good to see you here. I feel the same way that you do that there is a chance that triplets will reduce. I have only had 2 u/s the and now every time I go in for one I will always say a little payer that there is 3. I never thought I would say that but it's all I want now. I am so happy for you and I do know how scary this is but we can do it. Shelley has been great and everyone else on here is the best support.

Ana ~ Congratulations! I went to every appt up until about 16wks expecting to see less then three, but of course that day never came. And like first2go said, I never thought that I would have wanted to continue to see three, but from the 1st u/s when there was 2 heartbeats & I fetal pull I held onto the idea that we would have triplets. For my DH I know it was a little different. He was pretty excited about twins, but that one additional baby really pushed things over the edge for him. He is still having a hard time getting his head around the idea of having to put 3 children through college at the same time - and actually technically 4 at the same time for at least 1yr, not including grad school. I just keep telling him that we are paying on his student loans without any problem, so if they have to do the same, so be it.

Of course there are a million other concerns that him & I both have, but once I get to 35wks I can deal with all that. Right now I am just for healthy full-term triplets!

BOL during your 1st trimester & I will for you that all 3 stay on board!

to all the new triplet mommies! It's great to see our numbers growing. I haven't come on in a while but just read through and got caught up this morning.

Still in the hospital (was 4 weeks on Friday) and my cervix is holding out (thank you God!) so now it's just a matter of waiting. We will be 28 weeks this Thursday and that was one goal we wanted to meet and can now look forward to 30 weeks. Every week is a blessing and makes us feel a little more comfortable.

Shelley- I am so glad to hear that you are doing well. You give us all hope!

Carina- I'm glad you were able to get a good response from your SIL. I know how it goes to have problems with the family (my Mom is driving me insane) and it's the last thing we need to be dealing with right now. I think others not understanding our situation is something we will encounter a lot and hopefully we'll become experts at dealing with it.

If you haven't seen this triplet mother's website you should check it out. She is hilarious and has lots of videos of her trio and some good advice.
Angus and the Triplets

At the advice of my doc I joined the local multiples group and one of the members who has 2 year old triplets came to visit me. It was so helpful to talk to her and ask questions and get advice. She delivered in the same hospital I'm in now. I think these groups are very helpful and recommend them to everyone as a source of support. I'm usually not very outgoing but being in this situation has made it easier for me to talk to others and seek help.

Keep up the good work ladies. I will keep checking on your progress and including you in my prayers.

Melissa, it is great to hear from you and I am so happy that things are going well for you. Congrats on 28 weeks. You are on your way to having 3 healthy babies!!! That is excellent news. I have checked out that triplet website Angus and triplets. I love it, so does DH. The videos make us laugh and give us something to look forward to.

I emailed a local multiples group but just remembered I have not heard back from them. Thanks for the reminder. I will follow up because I really think it is a great idea!

I am so happy you are doing well. Continue the great work!

moolissa,
It is great to read that you are doing well. Hang in there. I am sure that it is not easy living in the hospital, but I know you are dedicated to growing healthy babies. I wish you the best of luck making it to 30wks. That is my goal as well right now... I just want to get out of these scary 20's!

I went to the local MOM meeting when I was just 8wks. There was only 1 triplet momma in the group & her story was not that great, but then again she really didn't take good care of herself. She actually smoked during her pg - can you imagine smoking during a triplet pg?! Not to say that I would smoke during any, but a triplet! I thought she had to be crazy... Anyway, I hope to check out the group some more when I have sometime after the babies arrive. Hopefully by then there will be more triplet momma's. I have to say they have the best sales! I got a ton of great stuff really cheap at there spring rummage!

Oh & Thank you for that website. I just ordered her book 'Angus & the triplets' for my DD.

Carina, that thread really is inspiring. Whenever I start to feel like the pregnancy is getting to me I imagine how wonderful it would be to have healthy 'take home' babies.
