Leigh you have such a good memory! I did stop working as of last Saturday. I went and picked up all my stuff yesterday and it was so weird. I have never NOT worked before since I was 16. And now I sit here in front of my computer and I actually dont have to know what day it is! HA! It was perfect timing though because with my hands going numb all the time it was really hard and uncomfortable to work.

I remember a coworker of mine back when I was ortho assisting- she had carpel tunnel way bad and when she was doing an adjustment or a banding she would have to put her arms down and shake them. I always thought, "it cant be that bad" but now I completely understand!

Jen you are so knowledgable. Thanx for sharing with the rest of us!

sorry I haven't posted in a while. I've been working a lot lately.

I can't wait to see what everyone is doing with their nurseries. I just finally made up my mind on the furniture. I after my next appt when we find out if it's a blue or pink baby I'll really start focusing in on it.

Cathy - I too know very little about your test results, but seems like Jen knows quite a bit. Hang in there those tests can be worrisome for no reason at times.

Sorry to hear about you ladies struggling with carpal tunnel, I've had surgery for that so I know it's not much fun.

I worked 3 days in a row over the weekend and I have to say for the first time I felt the effects of being pregnant. I worked the trauma side 2 days in a row and had some pretty sick pt's that kept me running.....literally. Anyway by my second day my feet were killing me which I've never experienced, and I got this shooting pain in my left butt cheek every time I took a step......ugh...

once I had a day off it seemed to get better, but I hope it's not my sciatic nerve.

I will be making a list of things for my doc this next visit. I had a day where my heart felt like it was racing.....my heart rate was running around 130...and I don't know why.....no caffeine, no fever, maybe stress but I don't think so....

For the most part I feel great though....so I can't really complain.......

Sorry I haven't been on in awhile. Things get really hectic when you know you have a little one on the way. I am doing great with pregnancy and so far everything is going great with the baby. At my 10wk ultrasound (3D) the tech said she thought 75% sure that it is a boy but then at 12wk legs were crossed. I go back at on Sept 12th but I'm not sure if we'll get to have an ultrasound. They said definitely they would at 19wks though. Just thought I would update everyone.

Hope everyone is doing well and all babies are growing like they are supposed to!

That is where they look to see if your baby has a nasal bone (if so, that is good) and where they measure the nuchal fold under your baby's neck and look at 2 protein markers, PAPP-A and hCG. They take the results of nasal bone, nuchal fold measurement and the 2 protein levels, stick it into a computer and get a ratio. From your NT scan, your ratio says that your chances of having a baby with Down's is less than your age group.

With your last results from the quad screen, what it is saying is that either one or more of the protein markers (probably not AFP, since that is the marker for neural tube defects) is either elevated or lowered. You would need to know what your actual protein measurements are. I trust the NT screen results more since they are measuring something you can see (nasal bone, nuchal fold) vs something that is tested in a lab and yes, those measurements can be wrong.

Still, even if everything was perfect, what your test says is that you have less than 1% chance in having a baby with Downs. Not a reason to panic. I know it is hard not to worry, but your Level II will put you at ease. They should be able to see features of your baby and can tell by physical features.

If your ob was really concerned, they would probably have speak with a genetic counselor, and try to get you to do a amino, and since they didn't I don't think there is much reason to worry.

Question, I noticed u said something about genetics and all, I have an appointment with genetics counselor and a level II ultrasound next week, but I am 39yrs 1st preg. I wonder do they just do this because it is a military hospital?

Thanks so much for sharing!!! I have not had a 3D yet but want to so bad....I go back to the doctor 9/10 and plan to ask about it...the picture of your lil one is amazing!!! I am dying to find out the sex of our twins and if the doctor can't find out next week we have to wait until our anatomy scan on 9/24...I can't wait that long...I am so impatient...ha ha

We had our anatomy scan this morning and it's a BOY! She could find the penis right away when she turned on the ultrasound. Last week I had a dream that there was no baby in my uterus just a big penis floating around so I was pretty prepared for a boy. That makes 3 boys for us. She did find a couple of cysts on the brain but she said since my stats from my NT scan were so low she doesn't think it's anything to be worried about. I guess with new us machines they are finding them more and more and normally they just go away. So, we get to go back on Oct 1 for another scan to check on that.

Roxane- How did your appt go? I think I remember you having one today too. Did you get a brace yet for your hand. You will feel so much better when you do.

Hi everyone,
For quite a while now I have been struggling to keep up with the calories requirements of pregnancy but looks like I never have enough and I'm kind of a very fussy eater, besides having a small appetite. My ob-gyn suggested I should have around 2000 calories every day and as per my calculation,I'm not even half way down that mark though I feel full all the time. So, I was wondering what others are eating to meet the calories. I'm a vegan ( I have dairy products though) so that makes it all the more difficult for me with no egg/meat or fish in my diet and of course I have to add how much I hate milk - cold or warm, though I have a glass every night.
can someone help me with their diet chart ?

Denise-that shooting pain in the butt is the same I have. It is the SI nerve and sciatic nerve. I am going to physical therapy (started today).

Neta-did you have other tests, such as quad screening or NT scan? If you did and had questionable results, that would be a reason for your Dr to have you talk to a genetics counselor. If not, then it could be due to the military policy, or due to family history. I'm surprised they didn't tell you why.

Elizabeth-congratulations on the BOY!!!

Tulika-I certainly don't have that problem. Have you tried those high calorie/protein shakes? Can you try soy milk? Try putting more carbs into your diet such as pastas and rice dishes. They do have lots of nutrients. I wouldn't worry about counting calories so much, just make sure you get a good variety of food in. Especially since you diet is limited (vegan).

We need someone to fill in pink or blue (or both) when the sex is determined...

CONGRATS!!! All these baby boys.

Thanks for all the prayers they worked. We evacuated to Dallas. tx and did not see any rain. The only damages is my fence, shingles on my garage, and the worse is my fridge defrosted on my floor and they are buckling. I have alot to be thankful for and we lucked out b/c the storm lost strength. I cannot imagine evacuating with my 2 dogs and the new baby it will be a nightmare. We are to the point we do not want to live in new orleans b/c of this.

Hope my baby boy is ok. Poor thing was in it for the ride and I was so stressed. I go back to work tomm. so I will ck on him.
