Unhappy Received the worst news yesterday.

I went in for my ultrasound and we finally heard what we were waiting for. A heartbeat. Finally something to be excited about. Then we saw the doctors face and realized that it was nothing to be excited about. We received the horrible news that I had an ectopic pregnancy in my left fallopian tube. I was immediate admitted to the hospital and had a laparoscopy last night. Unfortunately there was too much bleeding and they could not save the tube. They also noticed scarring on my right fallopian tube. I'm not sure what that is all about since I had an HSG done and was told that both sides were open and looked fine. Now I'm afraid to even try naturally in case I wind up with an ectopic in my right and lose that one too.

My DH and I have been trying for over two years now. This past year was the first we have done IUI's. This was my third IUI with the first being a chemical pregnancy back in January. My DH and I are so distressed. I'm trying to be strong for the both of us since I can't stand to see him so upset. He's more upset about what this is doing to me and what I have to go through than the loss itself.

It looks like our only choice now will be IVF, but then again there are no guarantees with that either. We will have to wait until February I think. Has anyone had any success? I need some hope to help me keep up the faith!

So sorry to hear about the ectopic. IVF is truely a blessing and has extremely high chances of working on the 1st or 2nd try. I did my 1st IVF cycle and it failed but I am going in for a lap to see if there were some underlying problems with the tubes they could not see on HSG. I know I have some scarring on the outside of the tubes but the RE said this should not have made a difference. As for you not wanting to loose your other tube, I would def say try to take the next step to IVF.
Good Luck, and take care of yourself.

jnails,
I am so sorry about your loss. I do know how you feel. I had an ectopic in Sept. after a donor embryo FET. This is so hard. IVF is a great way to go, with high success rates. I will be trying again in Feb. as well. Maybe we can be cycle buddies. We are going with donor eggs this time. Blessings on your next try!

I'm so sorry to hear this news. So was it a twin pregnancy and you had one in your uterus and one in your tube or just one in your tube? I'm so sorry again to hear this news. I know how scary it is, I've been there myself but mine was earlier on and was handle with medication only. Rest up, heal up and know that we'll be here supporting you whenever and wherever you need us.

jnails,

My husband and I have been ttc for 4 years and we finally did an IVF cycle. So far it has worked for us on the first try. I will have my first U/S on Thursday so i don't want to say it's worked just yet.
I think IVF is great and I know a woman with no tubes who has three beautiful children from IVF.
Hang in there

I am so sorry about your ectopic. I had one too back in June which ruptured and I lost my left tube. I am scared about another as well. We have done 2 more IUIs since the ectopic, both ending in chemical pregnancies. We are going to try another IUI this month (if I ovulate from the right side) then possibly move on to IVF next year.

Good luck to you.

I'm very sorry to hear about you loss. I know that my nurse just had ectopic with twins(lost her tube), she told me that she decide not to take chances with IUI and wait till IVF, because she believes its more successful and safe since they put your babies right where they suppose to be at. We all know there still chance of something going wrong but she seemed so confident about it.

Jnails - I'm so sorry. Your past 2 days sound like they've been a nightmare. I hope you're physical healing is going smoothly - I'm sure the emotional is going to take much more time.

Since I just found out I had an ectopic pregnancy on Thursday (though I suspected something was wrong for the past couple of weeks), I've been searching these boards for hope for future pregnancy. And I can say it looks like there are many, many women on these boards who have had ectopic pregnancies - resolved surgically or medically (or both) - who have gone on to have success with IVF. As well as women with tubal problems. Although there are still risks of ectopic pregnancy with IVF (myself as proof), there's so much more control over the process and the condition of our tubes is so much less important.

Take care of yourself. -B

Thanks to everyone for all the support. I'm feeling a little better today physically. Still a little pain but I'm trying to take it easy. It's helpful to hear from everyone about their situations and to realize I'm not alone. It helps the psychologic healing process. I'll pray for each of us that are still trying to bring a child into the world. I'm sure when we have had success, we will all realize what a precious miracle a baby is and we shall be eternally grateful.

Why are there so many ectopic pregnancy's? Is that due to IVF and the egg not being placed in the correct spot?

My husband and I did a round of IVF last year and wound up with an ectopic. My new doctor told me that ectopics can happen with IVF because the embryos sort of float around until they implant. I lost my tube as a result of my ectopic. We took a few months off to heal and recover. I'm sorry to hear about your ectopic. Take care of yourself and rest.

Oh, Joanna - I am so so sorry for your loss. I, too, had my left tube removed after our first ectopic. I did a round of injectibles and an IUI and didn't quite make it to six weeks when the tube burst and I was in surgery... very scary experience. We did another two IUIs, the last ending in a second ectopic... but we caught it in time to save my remaining tube. The RE now suspects fallopian disfunction (lack of cilia or lack of cilia movement)... and we were sent over to an IVF clinic. We've had great success with IVF so far... even after our unfortunate experiences with ectopics. So don't lose hope!

My advice to you, if it is possible, go with IVF. Your chances of an ectopic are much less (though not completely gone, unfortunately) and they will get the healthiest, strongest embryos and put them in the right spot, in the happiest, healthiest environment... so don't give up. Never, never give up. Fear is perfectly normal after all you've been through. Hesitation is, too... but don't let this knock you down for good. Rest, regroup, and retry! Great big jugs, Joanna! We're here for you!
