Hi, I'm brand to this site... my situation has brought me here. 2 days ago, I had an ectopic removed from my right tube. I had one in my left about 12 years ago and its gone. My ob/gyn was able to save the tube but says there is high risk of it happening again. I had a normal pregnancy from my right tube and then an ectopic. Has anyone had a successful pregnancy from a tube that has had an ectopic? I'm so crushed inside, even though I have my tube, I fear this will happen again.

kwsstin! I am so sorry this has happened to you. 7 weeks ago I found out that I had an ectopic. The next day it ruptured my left tube. Have you had an HSG to determine if your right tube is open? If you did not have methotrexate with this ectopic and you go for a HSG (you will probably have to wait until you start your period, then they do it around CD8-14) and everything is clear, they say that chances of conceiving in the next 3 months are increased.

I did have the methotrexate shot so I had to wait for 2 cycles (6 weeks fro the meds to clear) so once I get AF I can try again. I did have the HSG this past month so I know my right tube is open (lost the left). I know I will have a successful pregnancy. Just make sure they do the testing to see that there is proper flow in your tube.

Kwsstin, I'm sorry to hear about your ectopic. I'm glad they were able to save your tube. I had an ectopic 2 years ago in July. Like you, I was nervous it would happen again so I ended up doing IVF rather than another IUI. Methotrexate was used, so I had to wait, but I was able to conceive in October of 2005, 3 months after my ectopic. I probably could have used my tubes to get pregnant, but I wanted to eliminate the risk. I'm sure there are plenty of people out there who have had normal pregnancies after an ectopic. If your RE thinks your tubes look good, I'm sure it will be fine. Good luck!!

I had a tubular pregnancy that ruptured one of my tubes back in July 2005. I've been trying to concieve since March of 2007. I've had 2 unsuccessful IUI's and will be starting the daily shots next week. I hear of all these stories of successful pregnancies after a tubular, but I am getting more and more frustrated and starting to believe it will never happen. But...I do know that I will never find out unless I continue to try. Wishing everyone the best of luck!

Hi. I'm just getting through an ectopic pregnancy, successfully treated with methotrexate (thankfully). We're planning to do a donor egg cycle for our next try (I just can't bear to go through another loss with my eggs). But I'm really frightened of a recurrence of an ectopic pregnancy. Possibly to the point of not going ahead with the attempt.

It seems that a lot of women had an HSG done after their ectopics. Since I'd be doing IVF, I won't need my tubes. But maybe there are other reasons to do the HSG? I had one done last January and all was clear - but things can (and have) certainly change.

And is there anything else that people's doctors recommended be done before trying again? My clinic doesn't seem to think that I need to do anything but wait a natural cycle. I just wouldn't want to find out later that there was something I could have done to prevent another ectopic.

Any thoughts appreciated. . . .

I just had this happen this year. I ovulated from my left side in February and it was an ectopic pregnancy. Then with our first cycle we were able to try again I ovulated again from the same side and we are now successfullly pregnant. It does pose a risk of happening again but doesn't mean it WILL.
