Thumbs down Non-viable Pregnancy HELP!

Went to the RE today to get U/S- because I have been in such pain for the last week- I am 5 weeks 3 days today- my last hcg on Monday was 400------
They did an hcg today and some other blood work- The RE wants to end the pregnancy because he deems it non-viable. I am bleeding like a regular cycle- lots of pain in my lower right side- the problem is... my hcg isn't high enough to see the sac... BUT the RE didn't see any bleeding in or around my uterus-(heavy bleeding that is)
He checked my cervix and said the blood wasn't coming from the cervix but my uterus- like I am miscarrying-BUT we don't know where the pregnancy is... If it is tubal-I could have my period due to the hormone levels dropping... I am nervous... My RE wants to give me the methotrexate shot.... I am sure it is better than surgery but all I see on here is negative stories- are their any "ok" outcomes with this drug???? They are going to call me tomorrow with my blood work... And if all is ok, we will go ahead with the shot..
HELP!

I am so sorry and good luck for blood result.

I was recently going through this nightmare. I dignosed with ectopic pregnancy in the 1st week of June. My beta level increase first at appropriate rate but then decrease and again increased.

I took MTX shot on the last wednesday. I just got mild cramps on first day. I was also afraid before taking it but it was not bad as I thought. I think more difficult is to deal with our emotions. Only I am bleeding on and off from the last 2 weeks..I don't know why? Did anyone experience that in ectopic prgnancy?

I had an ectopic (I think) in March and was given a shot of methotrexate. Esentially I had a 1st beta of 300 and then it never either rose nor fell. My RE determined it to be non-viable, but also couldn't see anything and didn't know what was going on. I took 1 shot of MTX and I really didn't have any complications in terms of nausea or anything. However I DID bleed EVERYDAY for about 3 months afterward. Neither my RE nor my primary care doctor seemed too concerned about this. They said it could be due to the birth control (which I was on so that I didn't get pregnant after taking the MTX shot), but I never bled before on birth control and it didn't stop when I came off the BCP.

Interestingly enough I went to start a new IVF cycle at the beginning of this month and on my baseline u/s they found fluid in my R tube that wasnt' there previously so they think maybe the pregnancy WAS ectopic - in the tube - and caused a blockage leading to it filling with fluid. I'm now scheduled to have my right tube removed before proceeding with another cycle.

Long story short to respond to everyone's questions - the MTX wasn't that bad and it's better to be proactive than have a tube rupture (there's plenty of horror stories on this site regarding that) and I DID bleed for a very long time after the MTX shot (3 months...I JUST stopped this week).

I'm sorry to hear about your non-viable pregnancy. I know how devastating that can be...especially when it seems like it just drags on (non-rising betas, no clear answeres as to why). If you have any questions feel free to PM me.

Best of luck to everyone!

Is your doctor planning on at least giving you an ultrasound to make sure the pregnancy is not in your uterus? Your betas seem a little on the low side, but they are rising appropriately. I find it unsettling that your doc would go ahead with the methotrexate without even making sure you don't have a uterine pregnancy.

First of all, ThANK you ladies for responding!

RE said that if the hcg rose today appropriately, we would try and wait til it reaches 1500 to 2000 so that he can check for the sac- sorry if I didn't state that clearly!
My HCG on Monday was 400 so today it should come back around 900- so within the next few days hopefully we can do an U/S to confirm! I am supposed to get the call tomorrow morning with the numbers.

EVerything is so up in the air right now because it is so early and he seems puzzled by the pain?! He says symptoms aren't typical- but everyone is different..

When he did the US today, he said he was looking for the corpus luteum- and he didn't see one... I didn't know that you could see one?!! SO that is why he deemed the pregnancy non-viable... but he is going to wait til the blood work comes back before he makes the call!

Thank you again-
Will update tomorrow!

The pain you mentioned, is it around your ovary or lower? From everything I have read from women who have had ectopics and actually felt them, they didn't start feeling it until closer to 6 1/2 to 7 weeks. I didn't feel anything with mine. My doc deemed it a non-viable pregnancy because my betas started out pretty low (90 at 21dpo) and only doubled once. I had an ultrasound at about 6w and there was absolutley nothing in my uterus.. not even a tiny possible something.

I really hope everything turns out fine for you.

Exclamation Miscarried

I got the call today- My beta went from 400 down the the 50's.. SO I don't have to do the shot! My body is doing the job on its own.
That is what is so hard about TTC! We are aware of every second- and every phase, every twinge...
If I weren't TTC, I would have miscarried and not even known I was pregnant!
Well, Thanks for all of your support! I will take a few months off to get the LAP done and then hop back on the wagon!
Hang in there!
KAsey

Kasey,

I just saw this thread. I just want to say how sorry I am about your loss. I can understand what you are going through right now having gone through it myself few weeks ago. Please take care of yourself to heal physically and emotionally. Best wishes for the future.
