Unhappy At our end of the road. Is this an option?

For years our doctor told us our infertility was due to DH's motility issues. They kept saying I was fine. Six years have passed while TTC...we did IVF last year and had BFP with only having 2 eggs (Surprising I only made that many they said) that were perfect. Lost our angel soon after. We tried to do another IVF in Summer but I developed cysts on my ovaries due to IVF they thought..they made me wait. Fall came and next round of IVF was cancelled due to insurance issues. Then the next was scheduled in January 09 and I only made one dominant egg and two tiny...they were shocked again. Cancelled IVF. We did an IUI and lo and behold had BFP on two home pregnancy tests. The day I went in for blood test...I bled...did not take. At this point we had given up hope. I requested a different protocol due to my age...NOW 40. DH is 29.

First US was positive. They thought they saw 4 follies and told me my blood work was great. Next US, this past Monday...they only see one egg and my blood work is not good. Cancelled another IVF and 4000 has flown out our window again while meds sit in a box.

My question is this...they said i should consider embryo adoption/egg donation. Are these two things the same?
Isn't it uncommon for someone to all of a sudden be the factor in infertility? How does this cost 20,000???? Are there ways to have people donate or you pay them separate from the clinic???? Any info is GREATLY appreciated as we are at the end of our road... :-(

The cysts on your ovaries could be a sign of PCOS. It may be they never properly diagnosed you.

The difference with egg donation and embryo donation is (besides that it's incredibly more expensive to do egg donation) with egg donation, you cycle together with an egg donor, using her eggs.

With embryo donation, this is from couples who already did IVF successfully, and have embryos left frozen in storage. They place them for 'adoption' or 'donation' and so it will not be genetically related to you or your husband, but you still get the chance to be pregnant. It's like adopting before a child is born. Some places require a home study, others do not.

It's still only 25% chance for each individual embryo to take, same as it would be if you were a 'normal healthy couple with no problems' and were going naturally.

Oh yes, while egg donation does cost about $20,000 . . . .

Embryo adoption costs far less. I would say around $7,000 at the NEDC, including the frozen embryo transfer and the home study, and the meds, etc., if you were considering anonymous donation.

Again . . . . every agency and every clinic has different prices. So check around to all of them and be sure you have all costs, including procedure costs before making your mind up. You can check their success rates etc too.

I'm not sure about the egg donation, but we are doing a donor FET.
Our RE suggested it in Decmeber 08. In Jan 09 we decided to go that route. In March we recieved the list of donor embryos. We weren't looking for specific qualities...ie..blue eyed blonde hair. Our FET is scheduled for the end of May.
We are in the Cincinnatti area. We didn't have to do a home study. We met with a psychologist once.
Besides all the lab work and tests the FET is going to cost us $3500.

Friend Came Forward

Our friend who is 29, healthy and beautiful has stepped forward and offered to donate her eggs. We are in shock and will be discussing with the doctors. The success rate is high with donor eggs so we may consider her amazing offer. Thx all.

Embryos Adoption

Hello I have 8 embryos that I am looking to donate I dont like all these agencies that tell me what to do with my babies I am looking to find a family that I can donate to myself. I mean in all legal ways but, my dr said that I can find my own couple and donate directly to them!

I did IVF in May 2007 and had 11 embryos 8 A+ and 1 A- and 2 B+ I transfered 2 A+ and delivered twins 1 boy/ 1 girl in Feb 2008. BOTH healthy and doing wonderful. But, I have decided now that I am not having anymore I have 7 total and I want to give the wonderful gift of life to another couple! Please contact me if you are interested in discussing this.
