How much risk to ship frozen embryos?

I'm 46, DH is 40. We have been approached by donors with embryos but they are on the West coast and we are in New England. Is it better for me to fly out there to do the embryo transfer or is it just as well for me to have them transfered by a local clinic? Does anyone have any insights? This may sound odd but it is stressful for me to fly because crying infants are a grief trigger, and it's best to minimize stress. But I don't want to add risk by shipping them here so I'm not sure what to do. Thank you to anyone who has thoughts about it!

My DH and I have been using donor semen for all our cycles. We never had an issue shipping them to our clinic. Most clinics have the container to ship and they are usually shipped via next day air to your clinic.

You can always talk to your RE about this and get their confidence level about shipping. You can also discuss how the other clinic would ship them to you.

One thing to question is how experienced your clinic is to thaw the embryo's to minimize shock/damage.

I wish you and your DH the best of luck and may everything turn out positive!

Katie

costs

Thanks for your input everyone! To answer your question about costs Alli I don't really know what they will be yet. I posted an ad on Miracleswaiting.org which was only $100. I have been calling clinics and I got two quotes for the transfer of $5000 and $2000. These are clinics in Providence and Boston. I don't know the shipping cost or the lawyer fees yet. The lawyers quoted $250 to $350 per hour. One quoted a retainer of $1200. My accountant is going to look into whether the fees can be written off. I know that you can write off the costs of adoption up to $10000 but I don't know if that would apply to embryo donation/adoption. Has anyone been able to write off these costs?
