Question Ovarian Cyst??

Morning All,

I havent been here in awhile, Hubby has had second thoughts on adoption so we are again trying to concieve on our own for the 8th year in a row.

However, I think I have a problem and need some advice.

I went to my family doctor with low right abdomin pain, the dr ordered some test and they found a cyst on my right ovary. ok well that is common.. he suggested going to the Ob/Gyn.

I did.

He in return did another ultrasound, found the same thing and well he wasnt worried about it.......I AM.... I have had this cyst or pain from that area for about 4 yrs off and on... It usually does go away. but it has been on going for about 1 yr now.

VERY PAINFUL!!

Now the option I have next to dealing with it is to have it removed and I guess they dont like to do that unless they can take the whole ovary. WELL we havent conceived yet..so to take an ovary is kinda defeating the purpose....

My question to all of you is what do I do... when I ovulate from the right side, it swells to where you can visibly see it above and to the right of my pelvic bone. I thought about pain meds but I amnot one for drugs. and I am trying to stay healthy for a healthy pregnancy.

Thank you for letting me vent.

The right side seems to be my problem also. Although I have PCOS, so the last sonogram showed 3 small cysts on the left and one very large one on the right.

Anyway, I would consider a second opinion. Find an OB/GYN who specializes in PCOS/Endometriosis/diseases of the reproductive organs.

I've read (not experienced) about ovary re-section. From what I've read, it has helped woman become pregnant. If you have had cysts for several years, your ovary may be scarred and not producing.

I know you don't want to take meds. I'm not a med person myself. However, ibuprofen works the best. But you need to faithfully take it every 4 or 6 hours, whatever the bottle says. If your periods are regular, start a day or 2 BEFORE the start.

Again, have a second opinion. Most insurance plans cover second opinions.

hello q's mom

Well,
I have decided to go back to the doc again. and ask him to do some more test. I really cant handle this pain much longer. and its not every week but about 3 out of the 4 I am in pain. lol sorry I guess it is more than I thought. I am just confused and frustrated..

Hubby and I just celebrated our 8 th year together and we are going on a date tomorrow night and I dont want to be in any pain. So I am going to try the ibuprofen for tomorrow and call doc on mon morn.
Thanks for listening and your advice.
Jen

In May of last year, on my first trip to the fertility dr, he did an ultrasound and found a cyst wrapped up around my right ovary and tube. About 4 weeks later, I was in the ER with horrible pain. It had not burst but apparently getting funky with my DH the night before had moved it and cause the pain. They scheduled surgery for early July. They couldn't distinguish between my ovary and tube, it was so consumed by the cyst. They ended up taking out the ovary, tube and my appendix. It was causing my appendix to lean against my bladder. No wonder I had to pee so often. I had THAT problem for years. I also had no pain until that night in the ER and I have had no pain since. We tried invitro in Nov-Dec and it was not sucessful, although the procedure went wonderfully. We are now in the process of adoption simply because I would rather spend money on a sucessful adoption, than a 50-50 chance of invitro ever working for me. Part of me still wonders if I'll ever get pregnant, though.

RE

For goodness sake. Why are you going to an OB/GYN with such issues? Only an RE - reproductive endocronologist can help you with such issues. They specialize in infertility issues, and have helped many. I don't know what you did in the end, but there are many ways to try to shrink those cysts. Good luck to you. Again
get yourself to an RE ASAP!!

I know that this isn't the answer that you probably want to hear and, honestly, I'm not sure how effective it would be as far as cyst size, but sometimes using birth control pills decreases the number/size of the cyst. It has helped with mine and my friend went on BCP's for about 3 months with great results (and she had a lot of moderate sized cysts). Good luck!
