Endo vs crohn's (long I'm sorry)

Hi! I didn't realize I was a member here. I was doing research and came across this site and then realized I was logged in.

I have endo AND crohn's. I have not had infertility issues since my first child. I'm not sure if this is the right place for me to be, however I see you guys are pretty busy.

Since Janurary I have had issues on and off. I am not sure what they all were. I DO have crohn's and had a flare and am now on meds for inflamation in my colon.

My Gyn kept telling me I should try a particular BCP (the mini pill) so I did (back in April) and pain came and I ended up with a CT scan and the works (ordered by my gastro). Finally my gyn said "oh th epill could do that to you since you have IBD" I stopped taking it and the pain went away. No period came (I forgot the name of that pill). Iw as only on it for about 10 days. The symptoms went away quickly after stopping it. The gyn said try it again in a few weeks to be sure that is what it was. NO THANK YOU! Anyway, last month the pain came again. I thought it was my crohn's (again) I had started taking something and thoght my gut was reacting.

Then this month the pain is back, stronger than ever. ti started 4 days before my period started. My period was worse than normal, pain was worse. Strangely it was only 5 days. Usually 7. The flow was still HEAVY.

The pain is strange, it is similar to labor pains. I realize some of you have not experienced that (I am sorry). They come and go similar to contractions and start in the back and radiate to the front even go down the legs. THese are not like regular menstrual cramps, so I thought it was crohn's. My Gastro today said he thinks it is my Endo.

Does this pain seem "normal" to you? I had my last lap in 2000 (my second) I had moderate endo. I got pregnant 7 months later. I have since had 3 kids. My youngest is almost 3 and haven't used BC most of that time. I ahven't every had pain other than at my period. I am on day 11 of the pain. It is so much better today (2 day of no period).

It only makes sense that the horrid stuff is back. I have an appointment next Friday, I'm sure I will jsut say do the surgery. He has recommended Depo, but I don't want to do that. No thank you! My family doesn't need me like

I'm not sure if I am finsihed with having kids either. Otherwise I would just be DONE and have a hsyterectomy and remove the offending ovary (left).

I haven't delt with Endo for many years now and am confused...does this sound normal for endo? 11 days or more of contraction like pain?

Hi Shelley,
Welcome! What type of medication are you on for your Crohn's condition?

I have colitis and actually have been hospitalized because of it. I had a major flare back in January after my missed miscarriage and couldn't get it under control. They said it could of been due to the hormones, the stress and/or the fact that I took myself off medication.

I have been on and off prednisone since.

I then took the pill back in June because I was starting my 3rd IVF cycle in July. A few weeks later I started to flare (my symptoms are more blood, mucus, etc..not as much pain). And my condition is really towards the end of my colon. After a days into my cycle I had a sigmoidoscopy and was cancelled. I had to go back on prednisone. Now granted, I take a 5ASA med called colazal that I will be on for life.

I also have endo. I used to have long painful cycles. Never had pain for 11 days though.

Regardless, I would have your gastro run tests to check on your Crohns if you haven't in a long time. The only way to diagnose the severity of your endo is to do a lap surgery. So I think ruling out the Crohns is easier.

Anyway, I would also recommend taking a probiotic and some fish oil as that helps with inflamation.

Thanks Kelly.

I ahd a scope done in Feburary after blood and mucus. he diagnosis there was colitis and proctitis. The crohn's dx came a few weeks later after the biopsies came back. I am taking Pentasa (8 pills a day).

All of mine is in my colon. Most towards the end with some midway. The pain is quite intense right now. I may go pikc upthe script for prenisone tomorrow and give it a try. I hate the stuff (doesn't everyone?). I was firstt diagnosed with crohn's while prengant with my fourth daughter and was on Pred for 4 months. I couldn't wean off and ended up in a mess then. I'm afraid of it. I would rather have a lap done. How's that for denial? I ahd blood tests done in April and found no serious markers for inflamation, that was with the CT scan. My crohn's is a mild case (SHEW!).

i have moments when I am 100% sure it is endo and like tonight as I am gassy (sorry) I think it is crohn's. I'm not looking forward to either part.

I'm sorry you have had so much trouble with your colitis. I think our bodies should pick one ailment! Colitis, endo or infertility. Seems only fair, right? Seding you
