endometrioma and lap

Hello, I am new to this forum. I have been ttc for 1 year. During that time I have experienced some bloating and pain in my stomach. My obgyn ordered u/s and discovered endometrioma on my left ovary (its basically a cyst filled with blood, which is endometriosis tissue). She suggested to have lap to remove it. I am very terified of surgeries, and especially going under general anesthesia. Could you ladies, please share your experiences with lap, and have any of you had endometrioma removed by lap,and how long it took you to concieve.

I had one removed but it ended up being a c-section type surgery as they had to remove my ovary and tube on my left side. I conceived through IVF last year, but I needed IVF because my other tube is blocked. The surgery was ok and after a week I was somewhat back to normal. It just varies from person to person and how you deal with pain.

I just had a lap last Friday, and I was just like you...scared to death. Let me reassure you, it wasn't all that bad. Just plan to spend about 3-5 days laying around. The anesthesia wasn't bad, as soon as they administered it I fell right to sleep and when I woke up I didn't have any pain. I was very concerned about them putting a tube in my throat, but you will be so tired you won't even notice it plus they pull it out before you wake. They will give you medicine for the pain if you need it. The best thing to do is just relax. When you go home make sure you have someone there with you for the first 2 days at least. A heating pain will help with the gas pains. Hope this helps, good luck!

I just had a lap one week ago. I had stage II to III endo. and my bladder was attached to my uterus because of the endo. and also one of my ovaries was attached to my abdomen...first time being under general anesthesia and that was actually great. I fell asleep and it felt like a minute had passed when i woke up after the surgery was done. I didn't feel the tube going in or out.

I did however experience really bad pain when i woke up...it was really rough for me. I actually felt like I should have stayed over night because I couldn't hold my liquids and once i got back home, I felt sooooo dehydrated I felt like passing out when my husband made me drink and stay lying down flat.

It was rough for me, but hopefully it'll be worth it soon!! And also, the first day was the worst, after that I just stayed in bed for four days and now after a week I feel almost back to normal.

I had my lap to remove an endometrioma from my right ovary at the beginning of August. I have always been very healthy and this was my first time going through anything like this so I was very nervous. I really had no problem with the anesthesia; I got sick after being put into the 2nd recovery room but that was probably mostly because I had not ate in 19 hours. The worst pain I felt was the shoulder pain I had from the gas they put inside me during the surgery. I am sure maybe your RE has told you about the shoulder pain. I had a sore throat for a few days from the breathing tube. All in all not a horrible experience. I have 3 tiny scars to remind me. Have not had a chance to ttc yet but hopefully it does not take long. My RE wanted to take advantage of the surgery and begin my 4th attempt at IUI 2 weeks after my surgery but a functional cyst on my left ovary stopped that. I have one more week on the pill to get rid of the cyst and hopefully I will be starting the injections again and my 4th IUI.

Good Luck with everything!

I just had a lap yesterday to remove a large cyst on my left ovary. This is actually my 2nd lap this year. My cysts are blood filled as well but will probably be a corpus luteum cyst like my last one. Anyways, like the other ladies have stated it's really not that bad but waking up from anesthesia was hard for me. I was nauseas and really groggy. I also had an 1 1/2 hour drive home after the surgery which didn't help. I made sure this time they gave me medicine for nausea before the surgery. I usually lay around for about 3 days and after that I can resume somewhat normal activity. I've been up and about today but I can't stand up for long periods of time. I start to get dizzy and nauseas. Your abdomen will be sore from the incisions and the gas they put in but it's not too bad. The incisions are also really small. Good luck with your surgery. I need to go lay down now :-)

endometrioma and lap

Thank you ladies for sharing your experiences with me. Made me feel much better, but still nervous. Going for a second opinion end of september. But most likely will end up having lap. My OBGYN is the one who will be perfoming the surgery. Do you need a specialty sergeon to perform lab or your regular OBGYN could do it? Mine said she does it.

My ob/gyn did my first surgery to remove the cyst and my second surgery was done by the RE. I felt better with the RE doing the surgery because he was more experienced and was very careful not to damage my ovary. It's what your comfortable with but yes ob/gyn's do lap surgeries. I'm 3 days post-op and was able to get out today for lunch. It's really not that bad. Just plan to have help for a few days and rest. Good luck.

Lap/Endometriosis

I had laproscopic surgery done in June 2008. (6 small spots of endometriosis were removed) I had never experienced any type of surgery, so I was terrified! The surgery and recovery were not bad at all. I think the worse part was the anticipation leading to surgery day. Fortunately, i didn't experience any of the shoulder/gas pain. With the aid of my pain pills and caring hubby, I was back to my daily routine after about 5-7 days. I still haven't conceived, but am hopeful every month!

I had a lap that diagnosed my endo several years ago. It was very easy. I only needed the pain pills for 1 or 2 days. I had a little bit of muscle cramping afterwards but really not bad. And, they gave me some meds to calm me and I was almost asleep (I hadn't slept well the night before because of nerves) by the time they took me back. I don't remember much from the actual OR, but do remember waking up with a nurse on each side. They were talking about putting highlights in the one girls hair, lol. They were super nice too. Helped me get up and walk around and one even gave me her soda she had just gotten out of the vending machine (they had run out of sprite and she hadn't opened it yet). It was really an easy surgery but my knee surgery was pretty easy--recovery for something like my knee was the hardest part!
