Is endometriosis a hopeless cause?

Hi ladies. I am turning to all of you for your thoughts and experiences. I went in for my 2nd IUI on Wed and my RE said he wants to try a LAP next, while my hubby's sp ct recovers from the hot softball season. He suspects i have some endo b/c we've been trying approx 2 years and never been prego. We have tested pretty much everything else. What i would like to know is how possible is it to get prego w/ endo after a LAP? Anyone have any experiences to share? Should i be hopeful? Should i prepare myself for a life without children? I have no idea what to expect...

There are alot of women who have gotten pregnant with endo. And they say the most fertile time for an endo girl is after a lap. It hasn't worked for me, but there are several on here that it has worked for. Good luck!

I was diagnosed with stage II endo. My RE did a lap and removed it. We were prepared to begin IUI, but ended up with a BFP the next month on our own. It is possible to get pregnant w/endo! Steph is right, my RE said I would be most fertile 6-9 months after the lap. We didn't realize how fertile I would be! Even the doctor was shocked. Best of luck and feel free to pm with any questions about the lap.

I have endo and needed IVF and it was successful on the second try. A lot of ladies do get pregnant after lap surgery to remove the endo though I just wasn't one of the fortunate ones. Good luck to you

Thanks Stephanie, Lovingwife, Heather, and Cathy. I appreciate you sharing your stories and hope with me.

I am not well educated about endo and i dont totally understand how it prevents preg. I had a clear HSG and several normal US and i wonder if you all did as well, prior to finding endo. I was thinking since my HSG and multiple US did not detect any problems IF i have endo it is most likely causing me implantation prob, but it sounds like several of you have discovered tubal prob and this is why you turned to IVF. Did those of you in that boat also have a clear HSG and normal US that did not detect these tubal blockages and cysts?

Thanks again for sharing your stories. It is SO helpful in this journey.

I am so happy for those of you who have gone on to conceive. For those of you who are still trying and/or pursuing adoption- much luck to you. I admire your strength and commitment.

Thank you!

Endometriosis often will not show up on a HSG or U/S. I would ask for a Hystocoscope (?sp?)at the same time as the Lap so they can get a full look inside the uterus to check. Endo can prevent pregnancy in many ways, it can stop implantation if it is located in the uterus. It can cover the ovaries and prevent the egg from traveling to the tubes. It can cause blockages in the tubes(even partial ones that will not show up on a HSG)

In my case I had adhesions covering my left ovary that pulled it away form the tubes so any time I o’d on that side the egg would not make it to the fallopian tube. This was not picked up with U/S or HSG.

Yes, if you check out my signature you will see that I did have an HSG that was all clear. But endo was suspected and thus the lap where it was found. The only way to accurately diagnose endo is through a lap because it really doesn't show up any other way. I've been through 2 laps with different experiences each time, so if you have any questions don't hesitate to ask!

My HSG and u/s were perfectly normal. My RE did notice a tender spot on my uterus when he did an internal exam. This is what led him to belive I had endo. I had it on my uterus, ovaries and bladder. So, I think it could have been implantation issues or the egg not releasing or a combo of the 2. Luckily, my tubes weren't damaged and we didn't have to resort to IVF. If you have any other questions about endo or the lap feel free to pm me.

Thanks again for your responses, ladies. After hearing your scenarios and explanations i am quite sure it is prob endo. When AF shows up I am going to sched the lap. Should be done in less than a month now and hopefully i will be on my way to an answer. : )

Thanks again. You are all so sweet to take the time to help others.

Hello all! I just had a lap on Aug. 22nd and am very happy that I did b/c my doc discovered that I had stage I endo. 2 spots on my left ovary, and 1 spot on my right. Before this I was diagnosed as unexplained infertility, all our tests came back normal, and I had no symptoms other than IF. We finally got to ttc this past weekend for the first time since surgery, so I am very hopeful that the surgery fixed our problem. Best wishes to all, and hopefully soon we'll all get our

My cousin and her twin sister both have severe endo all over the place. They had laps and although didn't have the miraculous BFP naturally after the lap surgery, they now have 4 children between them (cousin - 2 yr old girl from IUI and 35w prego with a boy and cousin's twin sister has 2 yr old twin girls from first IVF). So endo doesn't have to be the end all to your fertility struggles - it's totally possible to get preg. Good luck!!

pinylove: thanks for sharing your story you give me hope...I'm doing DE IVF due to my years of Stage IV endo and have recently been worried even doing DE I wont get pregnant because of the bad endo I had it was removed 2 times on ovaries, bladder, bowel, tubes, you name it....and they suspect I have some adeno in the wall of the uterus too but Im hoping by doing DE and transferring 2-3 blasts on day 5 at least 1 will take.

Thanks again!
