Hereditary Endometrosis????

My doctor tells me that endometriosis is not found to be hereditary. However, my mom had endometriosis, her mom had endometriosis, her grandma had endometriosis, her sister had endometriosis, along with a few ovarian cists thrown in between them. She says I show a few symptoms of endo (extreme cramps, abdomenal pain...) but not enough to warrant the surgery to diagnose. Wouldn't my family history, along with those symptoms, be enough?

I think the percentage where it is hereditary is on the low side. BUT, that could be they didn't operate on women for endo as much 2 and 3 generations ago... KWIM.

I was literally having spells where I would pass out cold before my doc would do a lap on me. I was 18 and the time and 33 now.

I don't want to minimize your discomfort or worry, but really I would try to avoid surgery until it is absolutely unbearable! I don't know if that is the right thing to do or you though. Mine has been around a long time and I have had three more surgeries for it since then. Everytime they go in there, it creates scar tissue. Our reproductive organs are very sensitive and get inflamed easily, thus more scar tissue.

Have you thought about a second opinion?? I think there may also be a blood test they can do thet somehow gives an indication if it may be present... Google it, you'll find it. I think I may have also seen some info where they may be able to pick it up in some kind of imaging. That might be a good non invasive way to try to figure out what is going on in there without unecessary risk.

Good Luck, I hope you find some relief it. I know how painful it can be!

My mother and grandmother had the same issues I have but I am the first diagnosed. I think it can be hereditary! (which is what scares me because I have a little girl)
