Maybe endo?

This whole endo thing is very new to me. Our fertility doc found what she thinks may be endo while doing a vaginal U/S a few weeks ago. I am having laparoscopy on December 30 and will know much more after that.

Meanwhile we are trying to prepare ourselves for the options that may be presented at our post-op appointment in January. We are not at all interested in IVF, so my question is...

If I am indeed diagnosed with endo, can we become PG through IUI? This is as far as we would like to take treatment, but we want to be prepared if this is not going to be an option for us.

How "bad" does the endo have to be for docs to say that IVF is the only option?

Thanks for your help.

hello,
I have been diagnosed with endo too. I have endometrioma on my left ovary. I have tried one cycle of IUI last month with ovulation medications and it did not work out, so I am scheduled to have lap on Jan 9th--scared to death, especially of anesthesia. I know lap has helped a lot of women with endo to get pregant. I hope to be one of them and wish the same for you. My RE said that with endo there is a problem with implantation and ovulation, so when they clean it---its suppose to improve your fertility. However, I've also read that lap helps if you have mild to moderate endo. But if you have severe stage, it might not help and you still need to do IVF or IUI. But the only way to find out what stage is through lap. Good luck. Please, let me know how your lap went, I am next after you.

Hi Srusse,
It is possible for a gal with endo to get pregnant through IUI. In fact, alot of women do end up getting pregnant naturally after their lap surgery. You can tell by my signature below that I was not one of them and did not get pregnant with either the lap or the IUI. As long as you know your boundaries and what you are willing to do and not willing to do, you shouldn't worry too much about the results yet. Yea, easier said than done, I know!

Once you find out if you even have endo and how bad it may be, you can go from there. Depending on what your insurance will pay for and how much you are willing to spend out-of-pocket, I would encourage you to try IUI at least a couple of times if you are diagnosed with endo, because, well, anything's possible!

Good luck with your surgery. If you have any questions about it be sure to ask. I've been through it twice.

I have endo stage 4 and had a lap in june then had to have another one in sept. My fertility doc. wants me to do IVF for my first child b/c I have "clubbing" of the fallopian tubes due to endo (this means the little finger like things at the end of the tubes that grab the egg and bring it into the tube for fertilization is shorter than normal), With the clubbed tubes it might take me a lot longer to concieve naturally and they dont want me waiting that long seeing that my endo flared up so quickly. And b/c the problem rests in my tubes IVF is my best option, So it all depends on what if any damage the endo did inside your body. If you have tubal damage they will probably want to do IVF to completely bypass the tubes.
