Severe endometriosis and blocked tubes
Hi,
I have severe stage iv endometriosis. i got a lap surgery done in 07 , tried naturally for 3 months, then went in for IVF which failed. After a few months, I did a second round of IVF, which could not be completed due to rise in progesterone. Because of all this stimulation, now both of my tubes have also got blocked. Now my RE is telling me to do another lap surgery and get my tubes removed and then go for IVF. I am very skeptical and worried about this. what after the tubes are removed , the IVF still fails, then I lose in all ways, i cant try naturally and IVF doesn't work either because of the endo. I scheduled an appoinment with another RE to get another opinion. Does anyone out there has faced a similar situation. If so what do you recommend? |

Sok, I was able to get Pregnant and had Endo stage III. I had the lap took three months of Lupron shots to surpress and make sure all the endo was gone, then tried 3 IUI's when those failed we moved right on to IVF. I just had my DD in January.
When I had my Lap I also had a hysteroscopy which cleans out the uterus. Everything looked good for the IVF. It wouldn't hurt to get a second opinion. That way you would feel better about what decision you make. Good luck.

I also say get a second opinion. I know my doc was talking that if my tubes were blocked they could clean them out but that was in 2003. I'm probably heading for another lap very soon.

Get a second opinion. With my experience, if your tubes are completely blocked and hydro's they can not just clean them out. Having them removed before another IVF gives you the best chance possible!!!!
I had both mine removed and then went on to have my perfect little girl. If they are doing you no good by being there I say get rid of them!!!! Good Luck!

Thanks dherbert,
That was very encouraging to hear. My DH and I are in the same age group as you about an year older than you and your DH so that makes me feel very encouraged. I am very skeptical about this since IVF has already failed twice for me, and so i keep wondering what if both tubes are removed and IVF fails again for some reason.. but i guess i'll have to take a decision sooner or later if i want to conceive. anyway right now i am just waiting for the doc appt to see what he says.. sok |

I'm scheduled for my first lap next week for endometriosis. What should I expect, how soon should I be able to return to work? I've been on injectable meds for 4 cycles with IUIs, and no success. I have very painful periods, to the point where I vomit and end up running for the bathroom alot (I know, tmi!). Did your symptoms decrease after the lap?

Hi boxcarjeany,
are you getting a lap done to remove endometrioma, if yes, then the docs say recovery is 2 weeks, but for me i was up after 2 weeks , but had to work from home for the next 2 wks before i could actually go to work. Unfortunately my symptoms came back within a year. That's the endo curse. But inorder to reduce PMS i would highly recommend doing acupuncture, i did it for a couple of months and i have noticed a big diff in my pre-menstrual symptoms. Take care, hope that helps.. Sok |

SOK,
Any decisions on the tubal front?? I read where you said you are concerned having them removed due to the failed 2 ivf cycles. Well if they have fluid in them, that could be why your IVF cycles failed. My RE is pretty certain that my 1st cycle failed due to the fluid in the tubes leaking out and killing the embies. Good Luck on your decision, and know you have lots of people behind you.

Thanks Dherbert,
I have an appointment with my new RE in June. Meanwhile I am taking Ayurvedic herbs and doing Pranayama(Yogic breathing exercises) for both endo and blocked tubes. Keeping my fingers crossed and Hoping to hear some positive results... If not then i guess another surgery seems to be inevitable for me.. Thanks for your support.. Sok |

Hi boxcarjeany, I just had a lap done to remove endo. Was very painful for first 5-7 days. I'm a week and 1/2 out and feeling better. If you work a desk job you can return to work earlier than if you stand all day. Unfortunately I have to have another lap again in June due to other factors, you can read my post about it. How are you feeling now? I'm considering acupuncture, have you done any research into that?

I have my lap done tomorrow, so we'll see how it goes. I'm just really anxious to see what they find. It would be nice to finally have an answer as to why I haven't been able to get pregnant over the past two years.

Well, I was suppose to have my lap done. I got prepped for surgery and everything. They make you do a urine pregnancy test before the surgery and it came back positive, but I had a period last week, with full flow and everything. They did a blood pregnancy test and that came back positive as well, but the doc says it could have been a miscarriage last week. So the surgery was cancelled, and now I have to wait until Friday for another test to confirm. Anyone else out there ever experienced this?

hi boxcarjeany,
very sorry to hear about your miscarriage. but i would say the good thing was that you probably conceived on your own, which means that you still have a chance to get pregnant and have a baby on your own. Good luck with your tests. kittycat, I am totally for acupuncture. I have done it for 2 months and it really helps. I had to stop after that coz i lost my job and couldnt afford to go there anymore. But now I feel that my PMS is reduced to a great extent, I used to be miserable but not that much anymore. Even the pain during period has reduced. Hence I would highly recommend that. dherbert, have you heard of anyone who have had both of their tubes tied and then gone for IVF. I am thinking if the tubes have to be removed, then why not have them tied and then go for IVF. I know I still want to hold on to the tubes, but I just wanted to know if that's worked for anyone. |

I would have to agree with sok. It is very sad to miscarry but I do have to say that my bff viewed both her miscarriages (pcos and endo) to be learning experiences and the third time they figured out exactly what she needed and she is having a baby girl in August. It has been 5 years since the first miscarriage and 3 since the second. My point is that the whole journey of ttc, especially with infertility, is a learning experience. Finding out exactly what our bodies need to get pregnant and carry that pregnancy. When ttc for dd I learned alot. I learned my faith is alot stronger than I realized. I learned my body isn't quite on a schedule with ovulation (not ovulating right now at all) and that to have a second child it seems we are going to need help since my body doesn't want to cooperate but I feel it's in God's plan that my family isn't complete.
I hope I have helped, atleast a little. There is no reason to give up on this. I concieved dd naturally the cycle before going in for more extensive tests. This time I have fluid around my uterus and constant af which the dr says means I'm not ovulating at all right now. I thought dd was difficult to concieve--a second one may not be possible (love this dr, very upfront) and I may have waited too long even though dd is only 18 months he believes my endo is up to stage 3 now. Just don't give up, don't let it get you down. Keep learning.
