Question Do they repeat laps to remove adhesions?

I had a lap in Feb of this year and was diagnosed with a stage 2 endo as well as a paratubal cyst. The dr (gyn/ob)removed the adhesions and next week I will finally get to see the RE and start the IUI proccess. Will he want to do a repeat lap to look for/remove adhesions? I'm not opposed to another one and removing any adhesions but I really want to start the IUI process ASAP since my DH is in the Army and may deploy in the next 6-9 months.

rebwin76- I wish you good luck with everything. My cousin has had the same procedure done 12 times in her life in order to remove cysts. I am going to the doctor today to find out if I need my 2 cysts removed as my first IUI did not work and I am in a lot of pain. I am sending you good luck vibes that everything goes the way you want it to go!!!

My doc said you can but why would you want to go throught the pain of surgery again. He said that he'd move to IUI or IVF and not do the surgery again. I'm not sure what your doctor will say but mine will probably refer us to a fertility specialist before doing the surgery again.

Yesterday I met with my fertility specialist and in 2 weeks I am going in for a lap. I am nervous as I have never in my life had surgery before. (I am 33 years old) I also did ask her if there was a chance on me ever needing surgery again and how many times can someone have this surgery. She told me that you can have repeat cysts and I may need the surgery done once a year, which I am not looking forward to. My fertility doctor also said that I can do another (Number 2) IUI one month after my lap, so that will be in August. But due to my job (teacher) the procedure would occur the first day that my new students arrive to school, so it looks like I will have to put off my 2nd IUI until September. Can anyone tell me after having a lap. done were you in a lot of pain and how long did it take you until you were able to go back to work or function like normal?

I had the surgery and returned to work on Monday. I wasn't in bad pain after mine but I did bruise due to the skin hooks that my dr used.

I had mine done on a Friday and returned to work on Monday. It really wasn't all that bad. Not too much pain. Better than the wisdom teeth I had taken out. I was a little uncomfortable but not in any pain. Good luck.

Hello,

Best of luck with your surgery.

I had my surgery on a Monday but decided to take an entire week off. The pain was not bad, it was more like soreness. The soreness was gone by wednesday. I was very nauseous all week due to the pain killers. On top of that I got my period.

BUt other than that evrything was gone quickly. I might need surgery again, but if it will help me get preganant, I am willing to do it all over.

Stacy, I just had surgery yesterday morning and I thought I would be in agony but it's not really all that bad. I'm uncomfortable, especially when I have to bend over or sit up from a lying-down position and they say I may get referred pain to my shoulders from the gas they used to inflate my stomach so I bought some gas-X and have been taking it in addition to my prescribed painkillers.

I was very hungry yesterday and ate well. My main complaint is my sore throat from the breathing tube and a fat lip that came out of nowhere. I think they caught my lip between the tube and my teeth and didn't notice.

I'm very thirsty, tired and sore but I wouldn't say I'm in any real pain and I take my pill every 4 hours just to be sure I don't feel anything. I think I'll be absolutely fine in just a couple of days.

Good luck.

- Angel

I had an exploratory lap done in November. RE found severe endo and had to remove a large chocolate cyst from my right ovary. He tried to clean me up as best he could, but in Feb when we tried our first IVF cycle, I had another chocolate cyst on my left ovary. I had a lap done in May to remove that. I have seen on the boards that some women have gotten pregnant right after having a lap done. A problem with repeat laps is that you are possibly adding more adhesions and if you are cutting/burning on the ovaries, you could be damaging your reserve.

I am also a teacher. I had my surgeries on a Thursday and took the Friday off. With the first one, I over-did it on the weekend and paid for it the following week with pain. I tried not to take the pain killers because they made me sleepy, but then I hurt. I probably started feeling better by the end of that week. Knowing this, I was very careful the second time. I took it easy over the weekend and was able to go back on Monday (taking my painkillers) and was okay. I have known several people who have had laps done to remove gall bladders, and they have needed to take a week plus off. I guess it all comes down to how you deal with pain and how you do on the medications. I would probably plan on being out and then play it by ear. Just be sure not to over-do it physically.

Hi I was just reading your post and I have been diagnosed with the same exact thing. A paratubal cyst that was causing my tubes to block and stage 2 endo. Im just wondering how long you tried naturally after the lap and were you successful getting pregnant with the iui. Good luck!

Hello, I had my Lap a little over 3 weeks ago and I had a lot of pain. I did not have any shoulder pain as most people warned me about.
The amount of pain does change according to the severity of the endo. It also depends on the location of the endo. My endo was a level three. I had endo in beween the base of my uterus and my bowels, also on the base of the uterus on the right and on the left. My left ovary was stuck to my bowels as well.
The first week was the absolute worse. I had the surgery on a wednesday and i went back work on Monday, but I have a desk job. I was miserable for at least a week. I was on narcotics and the pills helped a lot. The first two nights were the worst. A heating pad helps too.
The worst was the constipation! I didn't go to the bathroom for 6 days! then I did an enema and went on for another 5 days! It really made the pain worse. So my suggestion for anyone who's going to go through this, take metamucil or anything like that and be as regular as possible before the surgery then continue the routine after the surgery in addition to mild laxatives. You'll feel a lot better trust me.
I just had my first period since the surgery and the first two days were nearly unbearable. I was expecting it to be better than in the past, but no it was worse... I guess it's because I'm tender down there still.
I was told I couldn't have sex for 4 weeks. That has been a killer! I'm looking forward to this wednesday!
good luck ladies.
