I have had 2 laps done. I was told I have severe endo (not given a number). I had endometriomas taken off both ovaries and doctor could not remove all of the endo. I don't remember having pain during sex, but that could be related to where your endo was removed. It did take quite awhile to heal completely, so I wouldn't be too worried. Best of luck!

Hello, I had my lap back in Feb of 07 and it took me about 5 to 6 weeks to completely heal and be pain free. I also had a lot of cramps on my first period after the surgery.

Endo and Lupron and surgery
I am sorry to hear about your Endometriosis as someone who has recovered from severe Endometriosis and had all the surgery that went with it. I too took Lupron for only 3 months and had a 5cm cyst that ruptured on my ovary, resulting in the removal of my ovary many years ago. Fortunately for me I already had 2 children and was lucky that I became pregnant. I suffered from extreme pain from the endometriosis and suspect that your pain is still a result of scar tissue. Even to this day I still have pain during intercourse but not like a knife that I used to experience.
As for the suggestion of Lupron for me I still had a cyst that needed to be removed by 3 months on the Lupron. It is true what they say about the side effects of Lupron. I received a pamphlet after I took Lupron about the side effects and was appalled that nobody told me about the long term effects I would suffer (note my Dr. made comments about mild side effects and not the detail that I experienced.). It is a thing of the past but it was not pretty. I felt like crap never mind the pain from the endometriosis itself. Good Luck and just advice from someone who has been there and survivied-stay away from taking Lupron. Claire |

i had lap excision surgery in jan 09. the doctor wanted to put me on birth control for 3 months to prevent ovarian pain from my periods. i chose not to. some women have severe pain after surgery if they have endo removed from the ovaries. u have to give your body time to heal. i healed pretty quickly- 3 weeks i was feeling pretty good. the first time i had sex us not fun. the second got better. lupron does help but the long term side effects are horrible. i wouldnt take it for long term use.

I've had 2 laps, a year apart (stage 3 endo). I had a little relief after the first, but it only lasted about 2 months. Sex was still painful, and I was still in pain when walking/standing for too long, or doing any kind of physical activity. No relief after the 2nd lap. 5 months Lupron Depot, no relief (plus hellish side effects). I got other opinions. The 3rd doctor I went to diagnosed me with interstitial cystitis and adenomyosis. Apparently interstitial cystitis is fairly common in endo patients and often goes undiagnosed. It's in the bladder, so it's the same general area. Your doctor can do a potassium sensitivity test to either diagnose it or rule it out.
I'd say that if the lap did anything for you, you'd feel better within 6-8 weeks after the surgery at the latest. It's a minimally invasive surgery, but everyone heals differently. If you have the insurance coverage, you might want to have your doctor try the potassium sensitivity & maybe some other tests/ultrasounds, etc. to see if there may be other factors in play. I was still able to get pregnant on my first IVF cycle despite the endo, etc. Best of luck to you!
