23 Y/O Daughter

Hi All,

Some of you may remember my vent regarding my 22 year old daughter who needed a hysterectomy...well, (argh!!!) The doctor left in part of one of her ovaries in hopes that it would adjust , but continue to give her the natural hormones she needs. Well her hysterectomy was in Feb 2005, This week she just found out they have to go in again and take out what is left of the ovary, possibly her gall bladder and appendix!! I'm really getting down on all this, I don't know how she can keep it up!!!

ARGH!!!

I am so sorry to hear about your daughter. I know that all this is hard on your daughter and the rest of your family, but you need to be strong for your daughter. Continue to come to the forum and we will be strong for you.

When is the surgery scheduled for? When will you know how much has to be removed? Will it be a guring surgery decesion?

I will be thinking of you and your daughter. COntinue to vent here. We will listen. It really does stink when stuff like this happens.

AARG is right! What changed that they have to take so much more out? Was the partial ovary giving her the hormones she needs? Are they really prepared to send her into menopause for sure? I'm so sorry for your daughter

Hi!
She had a hysterectomy in Feb....they removed everything except for part of one of her ovaries. Now or shall I say Tuesday they will be removing the last ovary as she's got yet another endometrium (grape fruit size) that is irratating her bowel, the doctor will also try to remove the appendix, but that depends on what he's got for time. he doesn't want her to be under for too long. It is my understanding that the doctor will not put her on any hormones for a while, hoping the remaining endo will be reabsorbed. After a couple of months they will put her on HRT's. Although, this part I am not sure of.

She's doing great! She's taking it all in stride. I'll be there for this one just as I was for the other 3.

Now my question, her endometriosis is obviously very aggressive. She was diagnosed with the disease 4 years 5 months ago (she NEVER complained of cramps or ANYTHING before that time.) In that time she's had 2 surgeries trying to clear it out and removal of all cysts, the hysterectomy and now the completion of the hysterectomy... is this going to be the fix? I know it's possible although rare for this to continue to grow even after the hysterectomy, but how common is it?

Thanks for your help!

Endo Mom

Also, is there any funding out there for research for this disease? Is anyone even TRYING to find a cure (or even what causes it?)

There have been cases where endo can spread all the way to the inner vagina, but that seems to be very rare. Otherwise there would be nothing for it to grow on. HRT will probably be just the thing.

Thank goodness for the gall bladder! Don't worry about the appendix loss, it's a vestigial organ (like leg buds on snakes, our tail bones or ear muscles), we only use it when it's not working properly.

Hi!
Well, it's over. Kat's surgery is complete, they were unable to remove her appendix as it couldn't be found right away. The endo had pushed it up behind her gall bladder and it would have been too dangerous to follow and remove. Her bladder was nicked during surgery as the endo had also pushed it up and over to the right and flattened it out. She's catheterized for the next 5 days, while the stitches in her bladder heal, but she's home and quickly on her way to a wonderful recovery.

Thanks for listening and for your prayers!

They were able to get most of the endo and scar tissue out as well as her last fraction of ovary. This endo also blocked her rectum and the cyst on the ovary was sitting on her bowels (this is a HORRIBLE disease) Poor kid must have been feeling absolutley awful! Not only endo pain but constipated too!!!
