hip pain with endometriosis?

Has anyone had pain in the hip joint area that correlates with MC or that you think is caused by endo? For my last two cycle, around CD 4-8 I have been waking up around 4am with this dull sort of pain in what feels like my hip joints. I have talked to my RE about it, and he thinks that it is a symptom of my endo getting worse (stage IV). The solutions (BCPs or Lupron) are just not an option, since I REALLY want to get pregnant. Has anyone experienced this?

My pain wasn't all the way in the hip joint but got pretty far in that direction. My doctor (a gyn specializing in women's disorders) said that endo can cause swelling in surrounding areas. This may be exactly what you are experiencing! Maybe some ibuprofen would help, it is the only thing that would take the edge off the endo pain for me and it helps a little with the swelling caused by the endo. (I would switch to tylenol if you have pain in the second half of your cycle, just in case)

Hi Tabitha, I have experienced the same type of pain and for me, it is the endo. I went through the Lupron depot treatment for 3 months before starting IVF and I'll tell you that the Lupron really helped!! I have been pain free since January of this year and I am glad I did it. My first IVF was unsuccessful but I plan on doing it one more time. Pregnancy also helps the endo go away, so I am hoping it will happen soon for me!! Good luck!!

I can't say for sure if it is in fact to do with my Endo, but I have the same thing. I thought for a while I had RLS (restless leg syndrome), but it's at the same point in my cycle every time which is usually within a day or two of my starting my period. It's just as you described though, a dull pain in the joint that just will not go away. I try taking pain killers, but it doesn't do anything.
But now I'm going rounds with my Ob/Gyn because I had Laparo several months ago. Afterwards the doc told my husband, mother and grandmother that he didn't remove anything because there was such a bad infection. He did say though that there was a small spot of Endo and that was that. My Post Op follow up I decided to ask about the Endo, but then he changed his story by saying I didn't have Endo. To say the least I was feeling like i was getting ran in a circle again, so I left with no intentions of seeing him again. Went back a few weeks later and made him give me my pictures, which he should have done in the first place, plus a copy of the Op. report. Op report said he cautrized the Endo, which totally contrdicticted what he said before.
Got a call from him yesterday (had faxed him and others for records for my appt next week with the fertility doc) and kept going on and on about the pictures. To tell you the truth, I'm starting to wonder if they're even mine. I again asked about the endo, he said he burned it out. I pointed out he told my family and I he didn't remove anything because of the infection... even though he didn't give me an antibiotic or anything at the time. He said he didn't remove anything. I again pointed out he just said he cauterized it and he said yes. It's like a bad "who's on first" if you ask me.
Now he's saying I did have Endo, but he did burn it out. Don't know what to tell the doctor next week as i don't trust anything that Ob/Gyn said.

Seems there's a wealth of useless doctors in my neighborhood and I just so happen to get everyone of them. The Ob/Gyn I had prior to him attempted to do an Endometrial biopsy, after several tries she couldn't so she sent me to a gastro doctor. Still can't figure that one out. The several months later I get a letter stating she moved to a different state. Didn't matter much to me as I'd already found someone else to go to. Looked up online to see if I could find out why she was leaving, there was some court case where her patient died not even a year prior and that case had just settled. Guess I know why she was moving to another state. Even more happy I left and found someone knew, but this guy hasn't done any better of a job I'll tell you that much.

Now he said I'll need IVF, even though he never mentioned it before. Wish one doctor would get his story and keep it rather than changing it every five minuts. Beginning to think its a lost cause because doctors here don't care as long as they get their $$.

Thanks for the feedback, I really appreciate it. After posting the thread, I did a google search on endo and hip pain, and I found some interesting info on ciatic endometriosis. It is uncommon, but the endo can attach to ciatic nerve, causing pain when endo flares up.

Juliet, after reading your post, I looked at your public profile to see where you are from, because it sounds like you and I seem to find the same doctors. I went through 3 ob/gyns before ending up with my RE, although I really liked my last ob/gyn. Each doctor contradicts the opinions and decisions of the previous one, and it is completely frustrating. I wonder if this is because so little is known about endo, even though it is fairly common. I am sorry you are having so many issues with your doctor, and I hope you find one soon that you can trust.

Pinylove, I also took Lupron shots for six months after my first lap when I was diagnosed with stage IV, although at the time the only symptom I had was infertility and mild cramping. I am hoping that when I get pregnant, the endo will just go away!! We start our 2nd IVF cycle at the end of next month, and I am hoping, hoping, hoping this one will work.

Thanks again!!

Well it's my understanding the the symptoms of Endo do subside during pregnancy, however they do return after the birth. There's no getting "rid" of it, only ways to tolerate it. Doctors can remove it, but it will continue to come back and not necessarily in the same location.
There are also several types of endo... Reproductive Area Endo, Uterosacral/Presacral Nerve Endo, Cul-de-sac Endo, Gastrointestinal Endo, Urinary Tract Endo, Pleural Endo, Sciatic Endo and Skin Endo. You should be able to find out more about their individual symptoms at the website, which is the last link below.

Hope this helps!!

Check out erc : Endometriosis Research Center as there's a lot of great information there.

Also you can find answers to some frequent questions here EndoFAQ

There are other types of endo (haven't read the article posted yet) and some grow fast and some just sit in the same spot. Some women have it removed once and never seem to have problems with it and some have it removed yearly. Not enough is known and I think that is why soo many doctors can't agree, the gyn that diagnosed me told me that there really isn't enough known to give me an accurate outlook on my future fertility. This was in 2003 and he said I needed to have kids sooner rather than later because the endo could completely clog my tubes and cause lots of other health issues not even related to fertility. Well, I chose later and ended up in a lot of pain and frustration and ended up marrying the guy I was with at the time I was diagnosed!!! Oh well, I know I have been truly blessed with this little girl and know each and every one of us will be blessed!!!!

And for some women it does go away during a pregnancy and doesn't come back, and for some it comes back--just not enough known yet!

I remember having similar hip area pain while trying to conceive my DS. It went away after I became pregnant. But it's funny this time he removed endo on my appendix, which was close to the area of hip pain. Good luck!
