Question Mild Endo

Hi Ladies- I have a question for those of you that were diagnosed with mild endo. What were you advised by your RE after the diagnosis? What were your next steps? Did you have a lap to remove the endo? I'm guessing so since I know the only way to diagnose endo. is via lap. surgery. I guess I'm one of the unfortunate few that was diagnosed but nothing was removed. I had to have emergency surgery a few years back to rule out an ectopic pregnancy. It was at that time my RE discovered I had mild endo. yet didn't do anything.I soon left that practice! It seems the opinions vary about having a lap done from what I was told (and read). Different schools of thought I guess. Some say for mild endo. it really doesn't help much with regard to TTC, others say differently. I have a hysterscopy planned to remove a polyp and scar tissue so I'm debating on seeing if a lap. done at the same time might be beneficial. Also (one last question!), for those that had surgery to remove mild endo, did you notice a difference after the surgery, TTC?

I'd really appreciate your replies. :-)

Praying-I had a lap in March to diaganose and remove endo(they found stage 2-mild). I got pregnant on my own 2 cycles after the lap. We were prepared to move on to IUI with clomid and injectables, but ended up with a bfp instead. I don't know it this is the norm, or if I was lucky, or if I had a really good RE. My RE told me I would be most fertile in the next 6-9 months after the lap. And he did advise us to start IUI as soon as we were ready.

I know what you mean a bout different schools of thought abour removing endo. I was so confused and frustrated when I started reading about it before and after my lap. All I know, is that it worked for me.

Best of luck to you and if you have any questions feel free to PM me.

Hi- Thank you so much for your reply. And congratulations to you! :-)

I guess what makes things even more confusing for me is knowing I have endo. and being told by two RE's that surgery isn't necessary. But as I mentioned, I keep hearing and reading opposing opinions about it. I didn't have a great experience w/my first lap. so I guess that's partly why I'm hesistant to request it.

Thanks for the PM offer, I appreciate it. I'm sure I'll have more questions along the way.

Hi,
I had supposedly mild endo that was blocking the movement of my fallopian tubes so even if your HSG looks okay endo may be causing you problems.

I got a lap in April and did an IUI in May (BFN). I have another IUI scheduled next week.

I think it depends on how long you have been TTC, any other DX and your age. Personally, having a lap is the best thing I ever did, whether I get PG or not.

Hi Sarah- We're been TTC for about 4 years. I did have a lap. where the endo. was discovered but unfortunately my RE didn't remove any of it. I also know that my left tube is blocked after an ectopic pregnancy that I had. I agree that having a lap. done is good, especially for diagnostic purposes. What has me confused is I'm hearing more and more that it's not necessary when IVF is planned. If IUI or a natural pregnancy is planned than it is. I had a terrible recovery period after my lap. so I wanted to find out as much about it before moving forward again.

That's great that your RE was able to remove the adhesions and clear your tube. Lots of luck to you on your next IUI cycle.

Mild Endo Stage 2

Hi Sarah:

I was also diagnosed with mild Endo- I believe Stage 2. They removed it in November. I was told to keep trying to get pregnant on my own for 4 months and if I didn't get pregnant to go back to OB/GYN. No pregnancy. I am going to begin FSH shots for IUI soon. I've been recommended acupuncture, too. I have my first appointment this Saturday. I'm confused about why they didn't take out the endo you had?

I was doagnosed @ 18 w/ stage IV endo, which means I have had roughly 14 years to deal with the fact that I would find myself going through IVF, My theaory is.....trust your doctor, unless your 18 years old, otherwise find a preventative med that will prevent you from having any laps in the future, they don't don't always help, I am currently going through my first and only IVF and i find it funny how many of us are under educated on ENDOMETRIOSIS, buy a book and read it, trust me this we give more insight on how it (endo) thinks then any website will ever be able to give!!!!

Hi USCGrad- Not sure if your post was to me? I was the one who had the surgery w/no removal. Honestly, I'm not sure why he didn't remove it when it was found. That's why I soon left that practice.I believe it was because it was found when I had emergency surgery done. My RE thought I had an ectopic at the time. Also could have been because I didn't sign a consent for that in particular. Good luck w/IUI. I use to go for acupuncture. I think you'll benefit from it if even for relaxation.

Thanks for your post and good luck to you! I agree w/you about the books. I do have two books on endo. that's been helpful although confusing in a way. Says removal is good and bad at the same time. Just like everything else in life I guess!

Stage 2 Endo after lap

I was diagnosed with stage 2 endo after having a lap in november of 2007. I had been going to my regular obgyn after complaining about constant pain that I was in all the time ever since coming off birth control 10 months prior to my lap. I went off because I wanted to have a baby but I was getting worried because 10 months had passed and I wasnt pregnant and the pain I was in was unbearable at times. That seems to be when my reality set in for me, I knew something wasn't right. After the surgery the doctor told me that I had no blockages but a little bit of scar tissue. He said the best time for me to conceive would be in the next three months. If nothing happened I would have to see a specialist. Someone on here had mentioned that after their lap their doctor had them do IUI immediately I think it was lovingwife. I wish my doctor would have advised me to do the same thing because it's now six months later and after using femara for 4 cycles without my BP i'm now thinking about IUI. As far as the pain after the lap, t comes and goes. It's certainly alot better than before the lap.

Also Lovingwife I was just curious as to why your doctor advised you on doing IUI after your lap?

Jenn-My RE told us we could move on to IUI when we were ready(The RE was the doctor that did my lap). We decided with the 6-9 month window of increased fertility that we would give it 2 tries on our own and then move on to IUI. He didn't actually say to start IUI "immediately". I'm just impatient. I suppose since I was seeing an RE rather than a gyno, his approach was a little more aggressive. Best of luck to you!!! Let me know if you have any other questions.

In addition to our IF issues, I was having severe pain and bloating (and had GI tests done last fall) that led RE to recommend lap before we moved to IVF (we skipped other ART procedures because we're also dealing with MF issues)......endo was not confirmed until the lap in March 08, in which, RE classified as mild stage 2 and removed a tubal cyst.

We just had our ET for our 1st IVF cycle today, so I don't know how our results will turn out, yet! it's a !

Good luck in your decision!
