Fertility inquiry

I read somewhere that ovulation positive in OPK does not necessarily mean an egg is released, andmuch less fertilized, tome this seems like a paradox, how can you possibly be ovulating and not have an egg released ? Is that even possible ? In this case, whats the point on charting it ? And how can you possibly know thats really what hinders conception ?

You need to be monitored by your DR to give you the best chance of knowing if you ovulated or not.

An OPK will never predict if an egg will be fertilized. They show a surge in the luteinizing Hormone in your urine. LH prepares the egg to be released, it will not always work. Only your DR can help to find out why.

Hi, I know it can be frusterating...but keep using the kits and keep track of when you have the surge. It is really helpful for your OB to have all of that info later on. Also ask your OB if there is any reason why she thinks you may not be releasing an egg. You probably are....but for the first 8 months that we were TTC I thought for sure something was wrong with me - like I wasn't releasing an egg. I was and everything is fine with me. Just ask your OB, tell her you are really stressing out over this and would like to be as sure as possible. Best of luck!!!!

Yes I agree. Keep in touch with your doctor and track how you go.

Good luck!

The other tricky thing I've learned about OPKs...they are a good resource more to confirm O. Since the best chance to concieve is having sex the three days leading up to O, sometimes you can get the OPK + too late and you may have missed a fertile window. For instance, you'll never know whether you get a + OPK at the beginning or end of your surge. We rely on other things (CM, general symtoms) that confirm I am about to O, start the BD and confirm that I O'd with the OPKs and BBT. It's a crap shoot, which sucks!
