I AM LOOKING FOR SOME ONE TO HELP ME BECOME A MOTHER. I WAS IN THE MILITARY, AND CAN NOT AFFORD THE FEES SET FORTH ON WOMEN WANTING A CHILD. THEY MAKE IT SO EASY FOR MEN TO GET THE HELP THEY NEED THROUGH INSURANCE, LIKE GETTING VIAGRA, WHY CAN'T A WOMEN GET IVF HELP THROUGH THE SAME CHANNELS.

I don't know why. I have had an insurance company tell me that having a child is a choice while ED is not. I know that I have suffered with endometrosis for a long time and now I just want to adopt a child. I don;t have the money that these "specialists" charge.
I do wish you the best in your journey. |

I am sorry I know how hard it is to pay for IVF and many other fertility treatments. They cast a lot!
The only place I know of that offers women the chance to have these treatments paid is Austria because they have a negative population growth and they want to have more Austrian born children. Otherwise I think most countries experiencing children who do not have families will encourgage adoption of these children before financing fertility treatments. There are MANY male fertility treatments that are not covered by insurance....and most insurance companies DO NOT cover the perscription costs of Viagra which is about $9.00 a pill. We have great insurance that did cover several of the bills for fertility treatment but when we went to fill my husband Viagra perscription we had to pay the bill ourselves...I still do not know if viagra would make DH more frisky or not--he is NOT willing to pay for sex in anyway! |

I know how you feel. What makes me more upset is that my insurance covers all forms of birth control as well as abortion, but not infertility treatment. That just doesn't make sense to me - insurance companies will assist in preventing pregnancy or terminating pregnancy but not getting pregnant?? It is true that becoming pregnant is a choice we make, but having intercourse is a choice we make as well, so shouldn't the same rules apply for ivf as birth control? sorry i don't have an answer for you on free ivf, but last year in new york state they had a short term program for qualified applicants that could have an ivf cycle done at a participating hospital, for a reduced cost, depending on your income. don't know if any other states do this, but it's worth looking into. good luck |

Hi
In most european countries you get 3 IVF attempts on your medical insurance. After that you have to pay. I thought it was USA too - I must have picked it up wrong. R |

Free Ivf
I recently heard of a new non profit organization that would help with the cost of in vitro fertilization as long as you donate and sign the online petition to get insurance carriers to cover the infertility disease. Visit their website at
FREE-IVF.com maybe they can help out. Tammy |

Are we talking about insurance that you get indep. or what you get thru work
Hello everybody!
I'm a little confused about how we talk about insurance companies and their coverage. My husband's PPO at a job two jobs ago paid for IVF up to a lifetime amount. Isn't the amount of coverage you get for infertility treatment really dictated by what the company will cover, not the insurance company? Because we have Aetna again except this time, IVF isn't covered - I believe that's because of what my husband's company was willing to cover or not? How many of you are independently insured? Are there better insurance companies than others? I'm guessing I'd want to be in an infertility friendly state if I had it all over to do again. |

Have you talked with someone about your medical plan through the military? If I am not mistaken, a friend of mine was able to get their IVF paid for through the military. They just had to get it done with one of the military doctors (which I know is never ideal)
You may want to check it out at least! |

Del-
Exactly. The insurance company doesn't determine if IVF treatments are covered, the company does. They can choose between plans that offer IF benefits and those that don't. Usually those that DO are more expensive, so many companies opt out. |

plovebirds, you're absolutely right. It makes me so angry that many insurance plans cover Viagra and/or birth control, but not IF. It might be the best argument for a national health plan that I know of. I don't think this will change until enough people get mad enough, and let their congress members know about it.

go to free-ivf.com. make sure you put the dash in the address as seen. I've checked with the better business bureau and they had no complaints. Please all you have to do is sign the petition, fill out the form and donate a small amount because they know you can't afford ivf, so how are you going to donate alot. I'm talking about donating anything. $1.00 or anything. Please give this organization a try.

My husband is serving in Iraq he is active duty the military only pays for some things and you have to meat their standards for example I am 5'6 and 180 lbs they consider me OBESSE then if you are over 35 your chances start going down for them to even look at it and if they do help you have to be 100% according to their standard and there is a cost of at least $8000 depanding on where you are located at.The military is not what people think it is they do not help with many things

Is free-ivf really free?
I went to the free-ivf.com website with the hopes that I would find a wonderful advocate out there working for people who are struggling to obtain IVF treatments and offering financial assistance, but instead I got a worried feeling looking at the website. Perhaps someone has had a positive experience using this service? If so, I wish they would post some concrete evidence. There seems to be a lot of slick talk and very little transparency on the site, but maybe I’m too wary. From my perspective, it doesn’t look like there is anything free on this site. The consultation fees range from $80 to $325 depending on whether you discuss your situation over the phone or via email. You also have to pay a fee to join their forum and one of their several requirements to participate in their program includes a $100 minimum donation. There’s supposed to be an article about the founders advocacy efforts however the link ultimately takes you to a newspaper which indicates that whatever was published in May 2006 is no longer available. I’m also concerned that whatever was published may have been in the advertising section of the paper which wouldn’t give it much credence if that were true. The other thing that seemed a bit off on the free-ivf website was the petition regarding the Family Building Act. While this petition is in fact real and is also featured on the Resolve.org site which is an officially recognized organization, on the free-ivf website the link takes you to an online petition website, PetitionOnline.com, whose policy is that delivery of petitions is at the discretion and by the hand of the petition authors. So, I’m not sure if it ever gets to your representative. My concern is that this online petition may be a way to acquire the email addresses of people and develop a mailing list or create spam. I have not researched this in depth but you can’t be too careful these days.
While I am sure that there are generous people out there willing to help those that are desperately trying to pay for their IVF costs, I personally wouldn’t feel confident using this service unless there was a lot more information, testimonials and posted results. Interestingly, I also looked at all of the posts that “dcbrown” has made since she’s joined and in each one she is promoting the free-ivf website. I wonder why? It's also funny but if you look at the public profile for "jfiregirl1", who seems to promote free-ivf, it gives her name which seems identical to the founder of free-IVF. And her profile indicates that she’s from Georgia which is where free-IVF also seems to be located. I wonder if that's a coincidence? It sure would be a shame to find out that there are people or organizations that take advantage of those that desperately want a child. I hope this isn’t the case. Military IVF
I am currently a military spouse in need of IVF. We recently moved to Fort Monroe and have found out that IVF is done at Walter Reed Army Hospital. Tricare doesn't cover it but for one cycle it is about $3000 to $4000. Unfortunately it is only one cycle but it is cheaper. I hope that this helps.
