Finances...

I was just wondering how everyone goes about paying for all these treatments and everything that comes along with infertility?

My IVF cycle was $4,100 + the cost of medications. We paid for our IVF cycles with tax money and now that we're debt free we can "fit" in more than one cycle a year. Last year, we did 1 IVF cycle and now we're starting our 4th for the new year.
It took us a year + to become debt free and that's really helped us to be able to afford IVF.

Cost of IVF

Where were you that your IVF was only $4,000? Honestly, I'd like to know. We are in georgia and if we go through IVF we are looking at $15,000-$18,000. Also, has anyone heard of mini-iVF? Same procedure but cheaper because the woman uses clomid instead of injectables.

We are currently doing IUI's but if we are not successful, I need to find a way to pay for the next step. (our insurance covers NOTHING)

I'm with you ladies. My ins covers zip. We aren't to IVF yet, but it's on the rader. I am in between two drs, one it is 12K and the other around 9K (I'm in KS). Since we may have to explore this option within the next 6 months, we are just saving every penny. It's sad but it's really the only way. We have decided that if we save and it doesn't work, we'd look at the financing option for round two.

We used ARC for financing ours. You can choose packages that allow you to do 1,2 or 3 rounds of IVF. You can find them by googling them. They actually go through capitol one, so maybe you can look there too. You can also finance your medications. its a big chunck of money to pay, but at least you get to do it in monthly installments if it is better for you.

We're fixing to start IVF #2 in March probably....waiting on the tax refund so we can pay off some credit card debt and then see about financing the cycle through ARC/Capital One? Not really sure....I hate to think of financing it, but it's so darn expensive and I'm not getting any younger.

My fertility clinic is one of the few clinics in my state that participates in a Shared-Risk program. We purchased a plan through IntegraMed that will allow us to have 3 fresh cycles and 3 frozen cycles for IVF. We paid about $25,000 and that fee doesn't include meds. What it does include is piece of mind through each failed cycle that we can try again, without the added stress of "finding" more money. If we complete the 6 cycles that we paid for and don't bring home a baby from the hospital, we get 70% of our money back.

Infertility and IVF can cause huge financial stress, I have to say our financial choice of choosing a shared risk program is that we can continue with each cycle without added stress.

Ladies in NYC, or NYS for that matter. There is a grant that comes from the state Dept of Health. There are a few restrictions, but not too many. You may be qualified and not even realize. I believe the grant covers anywhere from 5% to 95%, depending on your income. There are some facilities that have money allocated and just sitting there, while us unsuspecting ladies are killing ourselves trying to find a way to make something happen. Please research the NYS Infertility Demonstration Program.

Financing.....

My husband works for a company that requires him to travel 99 percent of the time. The good thing is that I can come along, we are currently in Peru and I just paid 3500.00 american dollars for IVF w/ ICSI.... If you have time other countries are places too look. The USA is serverly over priced. The office is very clean and my dr speaks fluent English, spanish and French...

We are doing IVF in July. Our insurance covers some of the meds but that's it. After all the money we've already spent on treatments, we've had to get a little creative to get the money for it. For a while now we planned on selling our car to get a mini van (yes, I know, a mini-van..and we don't even have kids. But we're campers so we need it to pull our camper=). So we are going to sell our car and use the money for IVF and get a small loan with a good interest rate for the van. We are also scrimping and saving like crazy. So hopefully we'll get enough, plus some, saved in time.

I did 2 failed medicated IUIs with follistim, two failed IVFs also with follistim, and two FETs using donor embryos. I did all but one IUI in one year so I could write off a portion of the expenses on my tax return (I think it had to be more than 7 1/2 percent of my income, but at $45,000, I was there.) I also pulled most of the equity out of my home to afford the procedures.

Although it was really expensive, I looked at it like a car expense. If I had gotten pregnant after one IVF cycle, it would have been like buying a new Honda Civic. I ended up having to pay for a Lexus. But it was worth it. I'm still paying off one loan and now that I have day care expenses, it's challenging. Again, though, it was worth every penny.

k.

We're paying off one credit card and then charging it right back up for the cycle We're trying to figure out how to pay for medications right now though....we were approved for 6000 through Capital One but they won't pay for medications with that money unless they are already paying the doctor for the IVF cycle....no al a carte pricing with them
