Exclamation Can you buy your own insurance?

Here is a question I am dying to know. Has anyone heard of purchasing your own insurance through a carrier that offers an infertility rider or something like that?
I too like most have been struck by the mean insurance company that won't pay for jack.

I'm new to this forum, and wanted to share my story real quick.
We have been trying to have a baby for 6 years, the first 5 we chaulked it up to me having a problem since I had irregular periods and an OB/GYN who really gave me no support, basically telling me if I lost weight, I'd be normal again and have a child. She did NO tests whats so ever.
A year later and this time the baby alarm sounding off in my head, I moved to a new doctor who zipped me up with tests, and tested my hubby too. Come to find out we both have problems and the only way to have a baby is IVF w/ICSI!
WOW!! I have been waiting to tell my story to someone for so long, and if finally was a relief to get that off my chest. Holding this in for so long can really do something to you.

Wink

Welcome to the forum! Sorry that your first doc did no tests which really robbed you of a lot of time, about insurance I don't know of any private ins to cover infertility, I'm a self pay so it's costing us a bundle. I used to have great coverage through my husbands job which allowed me to have several IVFs, but those days are over. Try 'free-ivf.com', another member posted that site a while ago and said she was going to apply. I do hope things work out for you!

I am self insured (called Direct Pay) through Blue Cross Blue Shield HMO - Massachusetts. I had a six month waiting period before I could use the insurance. The cost is $272.00 per month, However, I did not add presciption coverage as it was an additonal $120.00 per month. I called to add it last week and I have to wait an additonal 6 months before I can use the script portion of it (bummer).

They cover IF 100% with no limits. By the way Massachusetts is one of those state were IF coverage is mandated.

Hope this helps.

Thanks so much for replying. I wish I were living in one of the mandate states. Ironically, My grandmother lives in Jersey and my father lives in CT. I have been seriously thinking of moving to one of those states just to get the coverage.
I did go to the free-ivf.com and filled out the form and plan to make a donation on friday (payday) :-)
I'm so desperate at this point I'm willing to do anything. I'm sure you all know how I feel.
If anyone hears of anything please please let me know.

I would also like to know the answer to this question. My DH and I live in Texas, neither one of our insurance providers covers anything dealing with infertility. We've been trying for a little over a year now, and the money issue is what is preventing us from seeking any kind of treatment right now.
That sucks that your first doctor wasted so much time for you. Hopefully you will have more luck with a more informed physician. Good luck with your journey. Keep us posted.
