I don't know where to go from here
My husband & I found out a bout 4yrs ago (right before we got married) that my fallopian tubes were blocked. I did a hypersalpiongram(not sure of spelling), which they inserted some dye in me & did an x-ray. The dr. advised us that without any form of treatment we had no chance at having children. At that time I was 25 years old and even though I was pretty distraut, I thought I had all the time in the world to do something about it. Well now that my 30th birthday is approaching soon everyday I feel more & more depressed & hopeless about my situation. A couple of years ago we went to see about our options & the dr seemed just to be intrested in just trying to get us to do IVF. I asked about having the surgery to unblock my tubes & he said that if we went that route, that probably wouldn't work because I could have ovulating problems or my tubes could be permanatley damaged. That was very discouraging, because we don't have $10K-$13K just lying around to do IVF. I know I'm not getting any younger & we desperatley want children. Where do I go from here?

I would go back to your doctor and if you don't agree with them try and get a second opinion.

I too would go back either to the same doctor if I was comfortable with him/her or go for a second opinion. Some other doctor might have an answer for you. Is there a wide choice of REs in the area you live?
Good luck to you. <<Hugs>> -Jacklyn

I know a little about this subject because this is my #1 reason for infertility. Sadly both of my tubes were blocked from disease (aka unknown). My DH and I talked with the RE about unblocking them and he stated the odds are not too good that they would become unblocked long enough for a pregnancy. According to the RE the tubes would slowly regrow themselves and possibly become blocked again. Because it was so long before I knew that my tubes were blocked, they started to swell up to 1.5 inches and were filled with unknown fluid. We are starting our 1st IVF this month. Previously though the RE stated that the best option tube wise was to remove them, so that is what I did a few months ago. I wish you both good luck, hopefully this helps a little. If there were medication or anything that I could have done other than surgery, trust me I'd have done it. Best Wishes to you.

hey, i just wanted to let you know that i'm with you on the IVF, to me doctors are so quick to jump to IVF, it's like they dont even experiment or explore other options, e.g my DR. right from the beginning said IVF was our only option, after telling him that i dont have the money, he said ok we can try IUI, sounds suspect right, so I would get a second opinion

I would definitely ask for a second opinion, if nothing else it will help to give you some piece of mind of not just giving in to what one doctor said. I have seen people post who have had their tubes unblocked but I guess it would depend on the severity of it, finding out what or why the tubes are blocked. I know that IVF is a lot of money but you have to look at it from the view point of being possibly the most important invest you make for your family. We didn't have it laying around either, I don't know anyone who does. However, you can save for it. You can ask your family or church members for financial support (not for all of it but any help is better then no help), you can get a low interest loan from the bank, etc. There are options out there. Just follow your heart, is this something you want to do to try and have a family? I look at these situations three ways: you can choose to be without children, you can choose to go through treatments or you can choose to adopt. While I don't believe any of them is an easy decision for your purse it's what I believe for myself. I'm taking the road God has me on and seeing where I land. If in 5 years we are still without a biological child (maybe less time if we can get the money saved up) we are going to adopt.

I have one blocked tube and was going to have it repaired. I went in last spring for surgery and the damage was too severe. We had already gone through one IVF and were successful, so we are now heading for that route again. I think tubal repair can definetely be done and you can achieve successful pregnancies following the repair, but... it most definetely depends on the severity of the damage. Good luck in whatever decision you make. And remember if you are not happy with the first opinion... don't be afraid to get a second one!

I read ur post so many times and honestly I never knew what to suggest..Even now I dont know what exactly u should do..except may b consult another doc for a second opinion and probably try some herbal supplements, though I doubt they wud work if ur tubes r blocked.I have also heard of some Yoga exercises that have unblocked the tubes that were blocked for several years. But again the herbal supplements & Yoga r not scientifically proven so I am not sure how gud they wud be.May b u can explore various financing options for IVF ..some of it just might suit ur budget.I wish u all the best!!!
