Need advice about finanicing IVF or IF treatment, grants?

Hello,
I was wondering has any one found any grants or government loans for the treatment of IF? My Dh and I really want a baby so badly. But our Re quoted us $14,000 for IVF/ICSI. We can't afford this. Our insurance covers other stuff but not IVF or any ART.
Thanks,
Deb

My RE received a grant for a study that I qualified for. The study provided me with all of my medication, plus 1/2 off the IVF procedure. You may want to check with local clinics to see if they have any studies that are upcoming that you may qualify for. This was a study testing protocols and not new meds so my husband and I figured it was worth a try.

Medication Donation?

I am happy to announce that my wife and I were able to conceive naturally. We are very excited.

We were about to start treatments and purchased Ovidrel and Gonal-F. Since we no longer need this, is there an organization who will accept this as a tax deductable donation? Neither drug has even been opened and has remained refrigerated since the day we received it.

Any help would be appreciated.

For those out there who are trying to conceive with difficulty, always keep the faith.

I am not sure there is any NPO that will take prescription medication as a donation. However, I am sure your RE's office will take the meds back and donate them to another couple in need.

If the cost of the meds were less than $500 you do not need to have a receipt for the donation.
However, since it is a medical cost, you can itemize your medical expenses for the year and deduct the cost of the meds and still donate them to back to your clinic.

I am sure there are plenty of couples who could use and would appreciate the savings you can provide.

how to get listing of government grants

Hello friends, I want to start personal business and need money for that. I am looking for government grants but all the web sites I come across want you to pay. If they have a source and its government money they give out then where do they get their information? Does any one know how to get listing of government grants or maybe where to begin to search for any information?

I am unaware of any grants for the treatment of ivf. As Darma said, a clinic may have a study for which you would qualify that would lower the costs. And some clinics (mine in Atlanta) offer financing options, so you don't have to come up with $14,000 all at once.

If you own a home, you may want to consider drawing against the equity. That way, you can deduct the interest for tax purposes from payments made through a home equity line. Also, you may want to calculate how much you'll get back in taxes when you consider the financial implications of paying for ivf treatments. As a rule of thumb, you can estimate that you'll receive back from the IRS approximately 20% of anything you spend on medical expenses over 7 1/2 % of your income.

Finally, for those talking about extra meds, I don't think you can take them back to your doctor. I had extra lupron that had never been opened. My RE literally could not take it from me ... the FDA prohibits it. His nurse could take it, but only to use for teaching purposes ... they can't give it to low income families. Well, at least they can't do it legally. I'd like to think some RE's bend the rules here.

Good luck.

Kathryn.

Government Grants conference

All right, recently I went to a Government Grants conference and paid $1000 to receive assistance in applying for government grants. I later canceled the contract because I wasn't sure if it were a bonafide company. But everything that I've found on the internet requests money for govt. grant information. Is this normal? I am little confused. What is your opinion?

I am in the same situation. There are some clinical trials out there. The one I just found out about is in the suburbs of Chicago. The website is http://www.edward.org/workfiles/IVF_...lyer_FINAL.pdf
I am going to call tomorrow. Our only option will be a loan which is very scary.

Infertility Grants

Please see Angels of Hope Inc., NFP for information on the infertility grants that a not-for-profit I am involved with provides to qualified married couples.

Best wishes.
