Did ALL of you give up coffee post transfer? I tried this morning and it didn't work ~ I think I did before IVF and through the first trimester, but drank a half cup thereafter... I was wondering what you girls were doing?

I switched to decaf in the beginning but I am back on the caffiene. My twins and myself have not been affected. Just drink it in moderation.

Dre - I switched to decaf. But I know plenty of people that are and have 1 cup a day. Its all what you feel comfortable with. I have been off reg coffee for about a month now. It's funny because I still need my Decaf to get the day started.

I switched to mostly decaf starting in my 2ww and have continued to do so during my pregnancy. I've read several times that consuming less than about 300mg of caffeine daily is safe. I can't remember how much a typical cup of coffee has in it, but I know that a shot of espresso only has about 90mg and that's less than coffee. I've heard that drinking decaf coffee and tea (unless the tea is naturally caffeine-free, like green tea) can be bad for your heart, but I don't know what kind of quantity you would have to consume to have an effect.. I'm guessing quite a lot.

I've given up almost all caffeine off and on since Feb!!!!! We've had 2 miscarriages and our RE said absolutely no caffeine. Recent studies have linked caffeine to miscarriage. Good news is, is it gets out of your system fairly quick. Bad news is no decaf coffee, decaf tea (caffeine free is O.K.) and are you ready for this: NO CHOCOLATE! I can't wait to be 12 weeks prego to get back to decaf. This has been one of the hardest parts of infertility for me!

I am having a half a cup a day, but will probably quit cold turkey during the 2 ww.....

I absolutely agree that the no caffeine thing has been one of the hardest things about my IF journey as well...though I'm still eating chocolate. Kill me now if they tell me to stop eating chocolate! I miss my coffee...I was a way nicer person with my regular coffee.

I didn't have any caffeine during 2ww. Now, when I am having a really bad headache every few days I break down and have a tall cafe americano (one shot of espresso- which has MUCH less caffeine than coffee- with hot water to fill the cup) slowly sip about a 1/3 to 1/2 the cup until the headache subsides, then give the rest to DH. My dr said that one small cup, in most cases, to get the edge off is probably better for mom and baby then having withdrawl stress or headaches.

i switched to Decaf.....but i still somehow have caffine everyday otherwise i get some terrible headaches. the perinatologist says that caffine in moderation is okay.

and that decaf does have a small amount of caffine in it too.
