Unhappy Help! Anyone have no embryos survive thaw???

We were scheduled to transfer our two frozen blastocytes - one grade A and one grade B this morning, and the RE called to say that neither survived the thaw. They did not expand and are not alive. DH and I are really questioning what might have happenned and if this could be some terrible error on the part of the lab, because I have never heard of this happenning in any post I've seen on here. Most people, in fact, have said that their REs have an 80 or 90% thaw rate. Our RE says he really does not have an explanation, but that it happens sometimes. Has this happenned to anyone else?

My situation is a little different since they were frozen at the 2PN stage (as soon as they see that the egg fertilized). I had 10 frozen and only one survived the thaw to blast.

I pray your next cycle will be the one. I had 4 ERs and 2 transfers and FINALLY I only had one to transfer -it just took one. I wanted to give up so many times but prayer kept me going. Rely on your faith and BELIEVE that your day is coming. It will happen. I am so sorry you are going thru this.

I had two embryos to thaw and neither of them survived. We were in the car on the way to the clinic when they told us. I guess for the survival rate to be 90% that means some of us have to be in other 10%. I am so sorry that this happened to you, I know how disappointing it is.

I saw someone mention on the IVF thread that you had your embryos disappear and then reappear, I also had that happen. I was not billed for storage for a long time and called to see what was up. They told me that I did not have any frozen despite sending me a letter that they had frozen some and then later called and said that they had found them, that there had been a computer error.

The whole think just stinks! I am sorry, I will say a little prayer for you.

First I'd like to say I'm sorry that happened. You are not alone. When we did our FET cycle, we had 7 frozen and only one made the thaw. I've had two IVF cycles besides the FET and no pregnancy. I just had my f/u appt. today and the RE thinks I probably have poor egg quality. I produce good quantity and the fert rate is great but they just don't seem to make it all the way. So dissapointing. But I also just saw on another thread someone said they thing that REs are quick to say poor egg quality when they don't why the pregnancies don't happen.

Oh Lizzie I am so sorry this happened to you I was so hoping this would be it for you. This ia a terrible loss, my heart is breaking for you. Sending a ton of hugs and prayers your way. I really hope you get your long overdue BFP really soon. Do youknow what you will do next?

Something to look into might be which freezing method your RE uses. The newer method - vitrification I think it is called - has a very high thaw rate usually in the 90 - 100% range. The older method has a much lower thaw rate I believe usually in the 50 - 60% range.

Did your RE go over this possibility with you, because he definitely should have. With frozen embabies they can't make any guarantees. We had 4 and thawed 2 - planning to thaw either 1 or 2 depending on thaw. We also had the back up plan of thawing the other 2 if neither survived. My RE also made sure we knew that there was a slim possibility that we could try thawing all 4 and still wind up with none to transfer. He just wanted us to be aware just in case.

I'm just so sad for you.
Hugs
Kimmy

My RE never discussed with us the possibility that neither would make it through the thaw. I was prepared that one might not, was completely blindsided by having none left.

We do have a plan now. We are proceeding with a fresh cycle right away, and will hopefully transfer in late Sept. or early Oct. We may be switching to a new RE. We managed to get in for a consult on Saturday.

I appreciate the input about the vitrification process. I will definitely ask about this.

Hi girlie, how are you holding up? I tried to get you some answers today. I spoke to my embryologist and asked why this could happen. She actually couldn't give me a clear answer either, but she said there are different types freezing and different protocols used at different places. Since she didn't have enough info, she couldn't really answer. I know vitrification is new but I think is being used more and more. I'm sorry I couldn't help, but I tried!!!

Thanks Terri! That is so, so sweet of you. I will for sure be asking my RE if they use vitrification and will ask the potential new RE as well.

You are such a wonderful, sweet person. I so, so want you to get a BFP. Sleep tight tonight. You are about to be reunited with your embabies!
