Midum - I think the 6-day blasts would fare better just because they made it to day 6 and kept expanding. I think your chances are pretty darn good!

I wish I had 5 or 6 day blasts. I only have 3-day embies that may never make it to blast at all. My RE said that they make a decision as to whether to do a 3-day transfer or a 5-day transfer on a case by case basis and depending on what the lab thinks. So I had 11 fertilized eggs, they transferred the 3 best on day three, immediately froze 3 more the same day, and then waited on the rest to see if any would make it to blast before freezing, but none of them did.

I read a lot about 3-day vs. 5-day transfers and there are arguments on both sides, but I tend to believe that if an embie is going to make it to blast, it will do so regardless of whether it's back inside you, or in the lab. Conversely, if they aren't going to make it to blast, they won't do so, regardless of where they are. As a result, I think five day transfers make more sense. Just my opinion based upon a lot of reading.

So, my point is that yours not only made it to day 5, but to day 6, and they appeared to start growing again on thaw. Therefore, I think you've got some strong ones there and your chances are good! I'd be on Cloud 9! So think positive, relax, and let them snuggle in!

Julianne -- Thanks for your encouragement!

I actually think you should feel very good about your 3-day embies. There are definite advantages of transferring 3-day embryos. I have also read on this and spoken to several REs. No matter how great the culture medium and incubator are, they are no substitute for the womb, and many 3day embryos that would have become blasts in the uterus fail to survive in culture. I also know many scientists who culture animal embryos for science purposes and they tell me it is very difficult to get the conditions exactly right for them to survive for 5 days. The only disadvantage is that you may have to transfer 1 or 2 more 3dayers than blasts, and therefore slightly higher chance of multiples. For my first IVF, I had 14 embryos that fertilized and only 3 survived to day 5. My RE suggested at that time that my embryos probably are more sensitive and would do better transferred early (ie day 3). For the 2nd IVF, however, I switched REs and their standard practice is to culture to day 5 if more than 10 are fertilized, in order to transfer fewer and decrease the chances of multiples.

With all that being said, your 3-days have an EXCELLENT chance of becoming babies, especially if they survive the thaw!!

Z -- sounds like you're having implantation to me! I think you're going to have twins ! Hope you get a BFP for your birthday!

Update of me

Good morning ladies,

Midum-Glad to hear your ET went so well and you have 2 great embies. I'm not really sure of the success rates between 5 and 6 day blast. My RE and the embryologist make a decision on assistant hatching and 3 and 5 day ET based on how well the embies are doing. Now it's time to relax. You are on your way to a BFP.

Z-Momma- Happy Birthday to you. Happy Birthday to you. Thanks for clarifying the assistant hatching process. I agree with everyone that your symtoms are from implantation and the progesterone. Try not to worry and take one day at a time. I know, it's easier said than done .

Good luck to everyone and to their upcoming US updates. I'm sending a shout out "BABY DUST"

AFM, I went in yesterday and my lining is 9.3. Also, I increased my estrace 2 tabs 3 times a day. There's a small cyst that surfaced on my right ovary. My RE says nothing to worry about. It is just a follicle cyst. I found out my ET date will either be June 14th or 16th. I will be notified sometime Friday. And yes, I'm am bloated. I haven't had anymore hotflashes, thank goodness. Have a wonderul and relaxing weekend.

Leigh

Hi everyone, Im actually a beginning of July person, and have been trying to gather a group for July... but maybe while Im waiting for people to find the July thread I could hang out here?

I love to see the list of people in this cycle, and send baby dust and hope to each of you. I hope this is the cycle that we all come home with BFPs and babies.

Our transfer is going to be the first week in July, depending on when AF arrives this month, and on whether they trigger me a little early or not. ( I normally don't ovulate until day 17 or 18, and Im not sure my RE will wait it out, or trigger me a little early, like he did for our IVF last year) oh... and my cycle is going to be a natural one, but with the HCG trigger, and also the prometrium support afterwards. I have to admit Im a little nervous about the natural thing, but my RE has confidence in it, and he's good, so Im trying to trust....

Im just a fistfull of hope and nerves these days, and Im really looking hard for a group of ladies to share the journey. Would ya'll mind if I hung out with you?

Hi Everyone!

I have been following this thread, I just started AF on Saturday and am supposed to have FET this month after a m/c from Fresh IVF. Question, since I started AF Saturday and the office is closed and I wont be able to call till monday (which will be cycle day 3) will this delay my fet? When does everyone start the estrace?? I just hope this doesnt delay anthing? Any ideas?

Hey Solange,

Hang in there honey. I know its so hard to have time passing by and your just at the mercy of your body. I have been there and it sucks. I will pray that things are progressing for you as they should. You are not alone!

Z,
EPT are pretty sensitive, you can POS tomorrow morning and it may pick up a positive. Try it and see. Dont be discouraged if its a no, you still have time. If its a positive, it will be less time you are wondering and stressing. It has always been good for me to test as early as 5 days post 5 day transfer. Were yours frozen on day 3 or 5? Good luck
