Thawing embryos

I am planning on a FET in OCtober. I originally thought I only had 2 frozen babies and now I learned that I actually have 3. On day 5, when we got our report, we were told we had 2 to freeze. On day 6 there was another blast to freeze. Dh and I have decided to do a single egg transfer, but now I am not sure. Our embryos are: 1 grade A, 1 grade B and 1 grade C. Does anyone know more about the grading and what that means? What about thawing? I am so nervous that they won't survive the thaw? If all goes smoothly, I will want to thaw the grade A first and if it survives, just transfer that embryo in. If that doesn't work, then I would transfer both the grade B and C together. How long does a it take to thaw out the embryos? Any info? Success stories for single egg transfers?

Amy - I think they thaw them in sets of two's in straws. They would never give me a grade which I tried desperately to extract from them since everyone else seems to get grades but just told me they were all high quality. Anyway, we did a FET prior to Braedyn & they transferred two from one straw. I ended up miscarrying that time. Then next time I convinced the doctor to transfer three which worked because I had an odd number of embryos & one was frozen by itself. It worked that time & I had Braedyn. I would think that you have one by itself also since they freeze them in sets of two. I guess I would check with them & find out the quality of the one by itself & if it's pretty good stick with your original decision of transferring one especially if you want to avoid twins at this time. Maybe down the road, ha ha!! I kind of sound like I'm rambling here, I hope this helps a little. Let us know what you decide.

Some of our embies were thawed in two's and some in three's- I would check with your RE- they may have frozen them all seperatley, or maybe the first two together and the last by itself.

At least when I've been through my transfers- they knew pretty much right away if the embie survived the thaw or not. Granted mine were all frozen much earlier. Still- I would think that if they thawed your one, and it didn't survive- they could just thaw the other one or two out right away- this is what they did in one of my transfers- We had thawed 3 once and only one survived, so they thawed two more right away. We did discuss all the "scenerios" with my RE and had a plan before each transfer- so they could just put into action our plan and not have to stop, call us, discuss, make a decision, etc.

I have heard of success with a single embie frozen transfer- check out on the FET success stories.
Best wishes!
