caffeine???

Ok ladies, I'm looking for opinions. I'm having my first FET this month and I'm trying to decide about giving up the caffeine or not. I have one cup of coffee every morning and that's it. I've been doing acupuncture for 3 months with a bunch of vitamin supplements. I've tried to adjust my diet to increase my protien/fiber/good fats as much as I can without a huge interuption in my normal routine! Part of me feels like I don't want to make a lot of drastic changes but the other part of me wants to maximize my chances.

My first fresh IVF cycle was canceled just after ER so I've never had an ET before and I'm wondering, who gave up coffee in the morning and who didn't and still got pregnant!??? What do you guys think??? Thanks in advance ladies.

My RE says 1 cup of coffee a day is fine. I'm not a coffee drinker, but I have Diet Coke (1 or 2 cans a day.) During my last IVF I drank my Diets during the whole cycle and throughout the pregnancy, in fact Coke was one of the only things I could keep down during my worst morning sickness and my midwife was the one who suggested it to me! So if it makes you feel better to cut out all caffeine, go for it, but IMO it probably won't make a big difference.

Thanks Chelsea! I only have one cup of coffee every morning but take that away from me and I'm UGLY!! I tried a few years back to get rid of coffee thinking it would be a breeze since I'm only having one cup/day and boy was I wrong. I had a headache every morning for months! I'm certainly willing to do it if it's a deal breaker but I'd much rather keep it and remain happy! Thanks again!

My RE and OB said 1 cup of coffee a day was fine. I don't drink coffee, but I do enjoy tea or coke and would do one a day. I have 3 kids from IVF and so my opinion is everything in moderation is ok. =) If you felt better cutting down, but not cutting it out, could you brew your coffee w/ half reg. coffee and half decaf?

Yeah they say 1 cup is fine or a soda/diet soda a day is fine, but I look at it this way, I aint messing around! I put so much time and blood, sweat & tears into this, and I am NOT letting some caffeine botch it up! NOT worth it!

Just say no! =)

That's pretty much how I felt. I quit my coffee and diet soda habit (1 large mcdonalds coffee and 3 or 4 diet cokes or diet drpeppers) when I started my bcps before my fresh cycle. The tech at my ET said one cup per day was fine, I have read that under 200mgs is okay also, but I didn't want to be rethinking all of my choices. I also read a study that said that caffeine in excess of 200 mgs (a large starbucks coffee) causes your chance of miscarriage to DOUBLE. Since then I have also read about the evils of artificial sweetener, which I was directly told to avoid by my RE. Anyway, I'm sure it is okay in moderation... But I'm not risking my chances at motherhood on coffee or diet coke. I'd rather be tired and cranky, because aren't all moms a little tired and cranky?

My RE said one cup is fine. He said if you enjoy it and brings you peace and calmness than have it. If it makes you grumpy, don't quit it. I am still having mine. I enjoy drinking it on the porch every morn.

I am currently 6w3d along and I drank a cup of coffee each day right up until about two weeks ago. I only stopped because I couldn't stomach it any more. I am all for not shaking your life up too much. I feel like stress and lots of change is bad for a cycle. Just wanted to add that if you do decide to stop the coffee, do it gradually! Cut back a little bit every couple of days and it will be much easier, you won't get the headaches and fatigue. best of luck to you whatever you decide!!

My question...What was your progesterone levels? I did not think progesterone could be TOO HIGH. Thought you needed a high level to maintain a pregnancy and prevent bleeding or AF from coming.
Now you got me thinking...

Hey triplets.... Your progesterone needs to be less than 1.5 (or so) before ovulation (or trigger). My progesterone was elevated during my stim cycle. It was 4.3 on cycle day 9 (and went up from there to 9.1 on CD 12). That number was a deal breaker for me during my fresh cycle. Progesterone "exposure" to the uterus too early in a cycle makes the uterus hostile and unfit for the embryo transfer. I was told my eggs were not affected by the progesterone so we proceeded with ER and froze all our embryos. This all caught me totally by surprise because in all my IVF research I never heard anything about even checking progesterone during stims. I always heard about E2 and follicle size..... and for me those were really good! Even my acupuncturist when I told him I was concerned about my progesterone he told me not to worry about it. He had never heard of that becoming a problem either! So needless to say when they told me they wanted to cancel my cycle because of it I was devastated! I felt better after meeting with my RE and hearing his explanation and agreeing to proceed with ER. He told me I either ovulated early (not likely) or that some of my follicles that were growing were producing the progesterone. After ER I learned that out of almost 20 follicles they only retrieved 6 eggs so I guess I had 14 empty progesterone producing duds! I'm really glad that my clinic was monitoring my progesterone because otherwise we would have gone through ET and come up with a BFN. Hope that helps!

Thanks everyone for the coffee input! It's just what I needed.

To caffeinate or not

My first IVF, I took everything super serious including their instructions to stop drinking caffeine and alcohol BEFORE the cycle began...in fresh IVF cycles, my RE was very strict about diet and exercise. I didn't drink caffeine except for a couple of green tea drinks and decafs when I was well into pregnancy.

My FET cycle, my RE said the caffeine intake should be 1 a day and no alcohol. So I did drink caffeine and, in fact, drank it during the entire pregnancy because as a mother of a 12 month old, I needed a kickstart in the morning, both before the FET and during the pregnancy!!! And she was born healthy and fine and my pregnancy was good except for an incredible amount of swelling at end from beginnings of pre-eclampsia and probably too much salt intake!!

So follow caffeine in moderation, it is something that isn't going to do a lot of harm, particularly in an FET cycle. Try to mix half reg and half decaf if you are coffee drinker, that is one way to slow it down and even possible eliminate it!

For my fresh cycle I gave up coffee (only drank 1 cup/day) after the ET and had a .
Then we had 3 cycles prepping for a FET that were all cancelled b/c we couldn't get the lining thick enough--for those cycles I stopped my coffee too.

This last cycle was a FET, but done through ovulation induction with follistim. I just decreased my coffee to 1/2 cup, didn't give it up, and got a and am now 7 weeks.
did the caffeine play a role? Probably not, but clearly giving it up didn't help things at all! Enjoy your coffee.
