Baby measuring week behind???

Hi all...

I usually post with the June 2009 Due Date ladies... but I just wanted to put this out there for ANYONE who might have gone through this in the past.

I had a FET, and received a bfp! Then had 2 betas... which doubled! I then moved on for my 1st u/s. On the day of my u/s, I was 5w3ds. When the u/s tech did my scan, we saw a gest. sac... but was unable to verify a yolk sac. When she measured the sac, it measured 4w4ds.

Now, a great lady on the June site had told me that her doctor said that early in the pregnancy... the u/s machine was sensitive, and it could be 3-6 days behind in measuring. I am that is the case.

Is there anyone out there that had this happen to them... with a baby measuring so many days behind what you thought?? Please let me know, good or bad outcomes... I just want to prepare myself. My 2nd u/s isn't until 10/27... 11 days is just TOO far away.

Thanks for anyone that can share!

Hi Kellay -

With this pregnancy, my first u/s was 5 weeks and a few days (don't remember exactly how many, but was probably 2 or 3 like you) and all we saw was a gestational sac. The u/s tech didn't tell me the measurement of it, but said that right now all they were looking for was a sac, so I was fine. Course, I was concerned b/c with my son, we sac a gestational sac and a yolk sac at exactly 5 weeks. I was scheduled for another u/s one week later, but at 6 weeks 1 day I couldn't handle the stress of it any longer and asked to go in early for my next u/s. I prayed we would at least see a yolk sac at this time, but imagine my surprise when we saw a heart beat!

I am now 25 weeks pregnant and I totally understand where you are coming from. But have faith in your fantastic betas and if it's still bugging you, could you call your RE and ask for your u/s to be moved up? Stressing too much isn't healthy either, so they should accomodate you.

Good luck!

Cathyh from the April BFP bunnies thread was measuring a week behind. She went in for her 6 week scan and was meausing 5 weeks. This happened a few times and now I believe she is right on schedule. 20 something weeks along now.

I've heard many times that as long as you're within a week either way, you should be fine. Depending on angles, it's really easy for the machine to be off on the measurements. I would try not to worry if your doctor doesn't seem concerned, but if you really feel like you can't wait until the 27th, call the office and explain your worries and ask if they can get you in earlier.

My sac is measuring at least a week behind. I've had 4 ultrasounds so far and the baby is growing and heartbeat is steadily increasing, but the sac has not caught up. Last week my OB was really worried, but this week she was pleased with the growth. I drank a ton of water and other liquids over the past week. Not sure if that did the trick, but it can't hurt.\

Hang in there and try not too worry (I know, easier said than done).

I just wanted to post an update...

I had my 2nd u/s today...

We did get to see a heartbeat, that was measuring 131. Our dr told us it was a strong heartbeat. The baby is still measuring 6 days behind, but apparently that is okay, because she is still growing.

The bad news is that the gest sac is measuring 2 weeks behind now.

My dr is giving me a 50/50 chance. I have to wait TEN MORE DAYS to have my 3rd u/s. I just feel so terrible.

I'm sorry you still have to wait and worry. It's not fair after all we've been through, is it? Just to give you a positive story, my SIL was told early on (possibly her first u/s, but she conceived naturally, so it might have been even later, like 8 weeks or so) that her gestational sac was measuring smaller than the baby as well. Everything turned out just fine and my nephew turns 2 next month! Good luck - waiting is the worst.
