Odd HSG experience

I had a HSG a couple days ago, while I was lucky it didn't hurt I feel a little confused. The older gentleman radiologist who performed the procedure looked very nervous, liked he wasn't quite sure what to do. My question is, are you supposed to see everything on the screen? I looked up some pics before my HSG and saw a very outlined detailed x-ray of the uterus, tubes, everything. The pic looked like exactly what you see in the anatomy books. When I looked up at the monitor during my procedure it looked like a blob. I was waiting to see all my "pipes" so to speak. Does this come later in a more detailed picture? Just not sure, I am worried I may have to go again. Maybe the reason it didn't hurt that much was because he didn't get the dye all the way through?

When I had my HSG, I could definately see the tubes and what we thought was the fluid flowing out of the tubes, but they ended up being completely blocked. You should definately have seen more than a blob on the screen. I would question that if I were you.

I could see everything too, but I thought it was funny that my uterus was shorter and wider than the anatomy pics from health class and the dr's office and my tubes were much longer.

I am new to this... My doctor has just told me that the next step is a HSG. So far all test have come out fine with no reason for not getting pregnant. TTC 16mo. Should I go through with having the HSG? Is it worth the money? (insurance won't cover it)

Yes, for sure! My HSG is how they discovered I had a Uterine Septum. My septum was at the top where most pregnancies implant. Problem is there is very little blood flow so it can prevent implantation and cause miscarriages.... A septum is basically a birth defect and no one ever saw it until my HSG.
It also gives you the all important information about your tubes!

If the technician didn't do it right your Dr will know for sure..

Good luck!

Mine was very painful although I was able to see what my RE did and the pix taken as the dye went through. It's your body and you have a right to know what is being done to it. I am also very surprised he didn't give you your results right away...

All the best to you!

I actually had two....my first one i didnt feel anything and it looked like my tubes were blocked so i was refered to a re and he said that sometimes the dye is cold and makes the clamp down, so we preceeded to do it again and they were open! it was a little more painful, but i saw the outline if my uterus and the outlines of my tubeys. Good luck with that!

During my HSG, I could see everything. I could see the dye once is went thru my tubes...it looked like two skinny lines with liquid moving thru them. Did your RE not walk you thru what was happening? Mine was very clear, telling me to watch the screen. Showed when me uterus filled up with dye (ouch!) and then when the dye went thru my tubes (good news!).

When I had my HSG done it was very painful and I thought I was going to jump off the table. I did see the dye flow through my tubes and the dr told me eveything he was going to do before he did it. It is definetly worth getting it done.
