Traveling/demanding job and undergoing fertility treatments?
Hi, I was wondering if there are any other women out there who have extremely demanding jobs that require them to travel who are also ttc? How do you do it? I have been promoted recently and have to travel 3-4 weeks/month...it's draining enough, but I am also having trouble scheduling my travel around my ovulation so that we can actually be ttc. Any advice? Also what are good ways to keep stress levels down while traveling?
Thanks to all, I could use the support. Kristin |

Hi Kristen! I just answered another post of yours.
![]() My job is very demanding, but I do not travel. I have really had to cut back since undergoing treatments. If some things go undone, so be it. I do work less hours now and take care of me more. I actually would like to be promoted, but in my company that would require travel. If it is offered, I don't know what I'll do. With IUI I think it would work, but since I'm going onto IVF, I think I would have to turn it down, unfortunately. Have you told the people you work for about your situation? I feel that may help, if you haven't done so already.

Hi! No, I have not told people at work about my situation. It's a mostly male company and their response would be that perhaps this is not the best job for me. They are not family friendly and have virtually no women in top positions (in fact, I am the most successful female at my company). I guess that's finance for you.
I am probably going to try IUI first, as that is covered by insurance, and then if that doesn't work move onto IVF. I want to give myself another 6 months before trying IVF - I want to at least get settled into a routine with my job. How has the IUI been for you? Do you typically take meds while undergoing IUI as well as IVF? Best of luck with the IVF...let me know how it goes for you. |

I also have to travel quite a bit for my work. My boss however is more understanding about these things. Don't let a job or a company come in between you and your abilty to have children. At the end of your life work won't be something you look back on and wish you did more of. At least that is how I feel. I would reccomend mapping out your treatment plan with your RE and then just schedule to take that time off. I am guessing you have some vaca time? I wish you all the best. Traveling is very demanding. I know.

For the IUI I was on oral meds and produced 2-3 follies per cycle. I was advised to move onto injectables for a few IUIs, but since insurance stopped covering everything, we decided to move to IVF.
Thanks and best of luck to you too!

Hi Kristin-
Your situation sounds very similar to mine. I occasionally have to travel for work, as does my husband. During a 12 week period from Aug- Oct of this year, one or both of us was travelling for 10 of those weeks! It was very frustrating with TTC- according to the OPKs I was doing for the past year, I only ovulated once and that was when my husband & I were in different states. Doubly frustrating when your cycles were as irregular as mine (from 30-40 days) so I couldn't schedule travel to coincide with when I may possibly be o'ing. And when i finally did start treatments with my RE, my work dropped a surprise weeklong trip on me right during my first fertile window- what to do? cry, of course but, turned out to be for naught since clomid thinned my lining so much the chance of conceiving was pretty slim. Like you, I'm in a male-dominated field so I haven't told anyone at work about this. It only adds to the stress. Now that i've started injectibles my cycles have to be monitored much more closely, so I may have to tell my employer if a conflict arises. i'm keeping my fingers crossed the first time i tell them its that "i'm expecting" Best of luck to you! hope the baby fairy and the travel fairy cooperate for you!
