We are stepping up our ttc efforts to IUI with 50mg of Clomid this month after 10mos of charting & OPKs with no results.

I had an HSG last month & one tube was clear, the other inconclusive. OB asked if I wanted to do a lap so he could get in there and look around to see if he could find an issue. I'm a little afraid of invasive procedures and this is a new doc to me, so not sure.

We decided on no lap & just to go with Clomid & IUI for Nov/Dec and onto IVF in January.

My question is should I do a lap first? I'm just a little worried about going onto the expensive treatments right away without knowing what the issue is. I don't want to waste my IUI's & IVF's if there is an underlying issue that will make them fail. But I also don't want to waste time. what if we do a lap this month & there is no issue and can't do IUI until next month or later? I know it's only a month but we are only trying until summer and then giving up so I don't have too many months to lose....

Any advice or personal experience would be helpful. thanks

hi i am just now seeing your post and thought i would go thru my experience...i showed a blocked tube on hsg and tried with clomid and injectibles before looking around in there...my re saw no reason to look in unless we ran into further problems...the real reason behind finally going in for the lap was becuz of all my failed cycles i wanted to have the "blocked" tube removed before attempting ivf in early 2010...however the lap showed i did not have a blockage but it also showed me that everything is looking good in there and that was kind of reassuring to know...it really depends on your situation and what medical advice your re wants to give...if there is any possibility of endo for you then that would be a good reason to look around as that can impact ttc...also if the lap is covered by insurance maybe another good reason to consider it if necessary...the surgery(i have never had surgery before for anything) was very uncomfortable for the first couple days but not unbearable and i took rxd pain meds to help...a week later and am almost normal...if you would have to have the tube removed your recovery could be a little longer or more uncomfortable as you would have another somewhat larger incision to remove the tube thru...i only had 2. has your dh been checked, a SA done yet? if not i think i would have first...best of luck to you and hopefully you see your bfp soon!
