Input with RE care
Hi Ladies!
I have a quick question. Has it been your experience at all that you nudge your RE in particular directions? Let me put it this way: if I hadn't kept up with my own history and cycles well and hadn't done some research, I would not be getting the same care. For example, I told the nurse that the clomid didn't extend my luteal phase and requested prometrium which I was put on. Then, I requested a glucose test because I have a history of diabetes in my family; I registered with a slight case of insulin resistance (a friend clued me in to that). So, now I am on metformin. I also requested an HSG after I had already done 5 IUIs. The RE had given me an HSC only because he was "pretty sure my tubes were open" because I had conceived spontaneously a couple of times before. I kind of feel like I was given this standardized treatment. "Okay clomid and iui for you. Then, we'll move you on to IVF." Is this normal? Thanks!

Yes and No. Because we've struggled with infertility from the start we didn't really know any different. However, after finding this forum and being a bit more educated (through these lovely ladies and the internet) I was better able to gauge things. I didn't have my HSG until just before my IVF, after three failed IUIs. When it came to my embryos after the retrieval and knowing how they were growing and dividing I saw early that there was room for alarm but they kept telling me things were fine. Once we got pregnant I opted to stay with my OB who really knows me on a personal level, not just as a patient. Even with him I had to nudge for a repeat beta with my first pregnancy and I'm glad I did. It showed us early on there wasn't something right. This time though for the most part I've let him lead because things have been great. But if I have any questions I'm in the office as soon as they can set up an appointment. Don't want to leave anything to chance!
