I am joining

I got my BFN today and I am kinda in limbo. I think doing this will help me to feel good about myself. I may or may not be doing an IVF study (travel, cost even reduced amount is a lot, threat of not being able to take Metformin are reasons I may not). But I need to get healthy and feel good about myself. I am so happy I found this thread. I just sent Stephanie an email saying I want to get thin and tan for the summer if I cant be preggo. Well here it goes admitting it to others will help me to get better lol!

What is your goal weight? 135 (ultimately) but 145 before summer would be so nice!!!!
How much you have to lose? 26 (ultimately) 16 as a short term goal
How you got here? PCOS, Injections, Depression, Bad food choices and portions (I had chips & salsa and peanut M & M's for lunch today ), lack of exercise (I have no muscle tone)
Whats your method? Portion control, balancing carbs and protein (the Gestational Diabetes diet on the other thread seemed like it might be good for PCOS), treadmill or elliptical 4 times a week and incorporate resistance or light weight training
By what date? Labor Day would be nice for the short term goal

Great thread, ladies! I've lost 8 lbs. since the end of December. I am at a decent weight now, but I'd like to lose 5 more pounds!

I signed up at sparkpeople.com, and it's really helped me. I didn't think I'd be into calorie counting, but it helped me to see that I was waaaaaaaaay overeating. I log every calorie and every exercise that I do now, and it helped me get (and stay) on track. The articles are great, and if you join one of the teams (I joined "Getting Fit Before Baby"), you'll get lots of support from like-minded people!

I had gained almost 10 pounds last year after I weaned my daughter, went on vacation for a few weeks, and during my brief pregnancy. Like some of you, part of my weight gain came from stress-eating after my m/c...

GL to everyone!

My bad diet habits are fast food, take out, eating out. I dont get home from work until usually 7:30 so it is so easy for Dh and I to get take out instead of cooking. One of the changes I want to make right away are cooking more and having prepared healthy snacks at hand. This may take some planning, like preparing meals on my day off and weekends to eat later in the week. Preparing healthy snacks so that I have them at hand, like cutting fresh fruit and veggies and putting in bowl in fridge. Oh and actually eating what I buy at the grocery store instead of a drive thru. I have started eating a better breakfast in the morning. I usually end up eating in the car on the way to work (1 hour commute). So I have been eating a string cheese and a special K protein bar (I think it is good?). I would love to hear more advice and diet plans, especially those of us doing this with PCOS. Thanks ladies we should all take a beach vacation together this summer, No DH's just us in our hot summer bodies!!! (Okay I just dont want to be afraid of myself in a swimsuit lol) Oh and I was just wondering where do you carry your weight? Mine is in the tummy (severly) I have heard that is common with woman with PCOS. Anyway good luck to everyone, we can do this. We will have nice healthy bodies to lure these babies in .

I make sure that everytime I get in the car, I have a bottle of water. The water helps fill me up. I also try to remember if I'm going to be away from home during a time I usually eat, I take along a pack of 100 calories pack of gold fish, or fig newtons. Also, gum is a great alternative for me. I chew gum in the car and while I'm cooking. It helps to keep me from snacking while I'm cooking. If I'm not chewing gum, I eat an apple before my dinner meal to help fill me up. Those are just a few things I do.

Can I join you ladies?

I just read through all the posts here and realized what a fatty I really am. Well, I guess I have always known that, but it just hit me real hard this past month and a half when my IUI didn't work. I have always been a big girl my whole entire life.

I started my diet as of Feb 14th (yup, on Valentine's day). I went to a weight loss clinic and they prescribed me some medication, but I have been watching what I eat tremendously. I cut out all soda. If I absolutely have to have something, it is diet. (I was a mountain dew-aholic, boy was that hard to give up). I try my best to stay away from fast food and fried food. I've been watching my calories, but would still like to exercise more. I have my cheerleaders working out everyday to videos, so I think I will be joining them in their workouts now. That way I can still be at work, and still be able to work out.

So far things have gone well for me. Since the 14th, I have lost 10 pounds! I am excited, but I still have a bunch of weight to lose.

What is your goal weight? 200
How much you have to lose? a whole bunch (75 lbs)
How you got here? Always been big and ttc has not helped.
Whats your method? see above
By what date? June so I can start ttc again, but I know that is pushing it. Reallistically, by the end of the year.

Best of luck to all you ladies out there. Here is to all of us reaching out goal.

Noonoo you are not a fatty. You want to get healthy now so that your little baby has a nice place to live for 9 months. I too have struggled with my weight a lot. A few years ago I hit my high of 205. I knew it was not okay and I needed to do something about but I could not do it by myself. I went to my family doctor and she prescribed me a weight loss pill too. It was just just short term, 12 weeks, but it gave me the jumpstart I needed and I lost about 30 pounds on it. I eventually lost about 30 more but have been working on putting that 30 back on since TTC (unfortunately). I would love to get down to 145 which is a little south of my low weight from a few years ago. I ultimately want to be 135 which is my "happy weight". But even if I cant reach a certain number if I feel better physically and feel good about myself that would be reaching my goal. You have come to the right place we are all here to support eachother. This IF journey sucks and for me good food is such a comfort. But I am trying to find other fun, active things that will comfort me. Working on the house with Dh, trying to convince him that we should get a dog () having fun with him and realizing there is way more to our lives than just the IF that we struggle with (I feel good today but tomorrow may not be a good day). Good for you for making a change we all are in the same boat no matter the number. And I really I think we should treat ourselves to a vacay this summer. You know one of those affordable 3 day cruises .

Grits- I would love any advice. You know how to get motivated. lol i just am stuck to the **** t.v. and couch. No really what is something positive to do with my son. he is four that could keep me moving. I was thinking singing him up for swim class. Is that sufficiant for a day of excersise?

Mia23- Yeah i am not going to be doing the trial in houston either. One i am not a top health mentaly or physically right now for that and second we need to pay our other med bills. I could aford the 500 but the 600 for freezing the embies i dont have and i just couldnt deal with throwing them away. Sorry about your bfn. glad you joined us here though. Eating the string cheese is really good and i love special k actually i am going to wright that on my list for the store. My weight i would say is evenly distributed for the most part buy my thighs are awful they rub together and even with jeans you can see my pocket of fat at the top. lol

jana- i love the water. Dh doesnt see how i can drink so much but i try to always have some at my desk or in the car. I also heard if you drink it before you eat it helps with portion control. Oh and the gum..l just bought one of those new 60 pack of eclipse gums for my desk to keep from snacking.

Msnoo- welcome hun hope you can meet your goal with us.No one realizes usually how much they put on till they stop and look. You are not a fatty you are a beautiful woman that needs to get healthy just like the rest of us. I have always been a large built girl as well.

Carbb- looks like you are ahead of the game girl. I bet that was hard to wean your little one and i know how hard m/c can be. I know that is 7/10ths of the reason i gained my weight b/c i was disgusted with my body and did not care anymore but i refused this time to get like that. Glad you are with us we could use someone with some success.

I did the weightloss pills for a little while but they made me feel like i was on speed and i hated them. I messed up on my plan today. We took a shoping lunch today (me and my friend) and we ended up talking while she was ordering food at DQ and i just completly forgot i was suppose to be fasting i was so caught up in the laughter. It was only a salad though so im still good. I also was almost in tears because of the caffine headaches (24 hrs) so i drank a DR. Pepper and took some med and felt better 30 min later.

Msnoonoo............You are not a fatty. You've done great losing 10 lbs. in only 2 weeks. to you.

I think we should all come to the understanding that we are not dieting, we are making changes to become healthy. I think the hardest part for me is thinking that this is a life long change.......no more chocolate cake for breakfast. Maybe we should have a list going each week logging in if we've worked out. maybe that would be an accountability for us all to get movin. We should all be proud of ourselves for taking the first step. to all of us!!!

SOme of my favorite suggestions I have heard you girls mention are filling up on water (sometimes we confuse being thirsty with hunger), eating and apple before meals (fiber is definitely something most of us lack in our daily diet from inadequate nutrition). Believe it or not a lot of people who are over weight are malnourished. If you try to reach the recommended goal of 9 servings of fruits and veggies each day, you will be surprised by how full you feel most of the day. And they make great fast food. Being busy can be a good thing, less time to graze.......some great things to throw in a bag to snack on throughout the day are string cheeese, fresh fruit and veggies of course, boiled eggs, beef jerky, gum (orbit is my fav), and fresh butter free popcorn to name a few. I also love yogurt (Blue Bunny makes a fat free/no added sugar one that is great).

frymomma, I would avoid the pills. And the swim class sounds good as long as you are getting in with him and swimming.

Something things to think on................
1 pound of fat= 3500 calories, so if you cut out 500 a day that is a pound a week.

Weight training and cardio can increase muscle and decrease fat. Muscle takes up way less space and burns more calories. So you get smaller and you get to eat more!

If you diet alone, you lose almost equal parts muscle and fat. VS. 80%fat/20% muscle on average with weight/cardio training. You really want to keep the muscle and burn the fat.

People who listen to music while training burn more calories.

O.k. I will stop now! LOL If you have any more question feel free. I really do love this stuff.

Every time I've asked my doctor about weight loss pills or alternatives they say "NO" your "NOT FAT ENOUGH"....WHAT

It makes me soooo mad....especially when you hear of others who weigh a good 50-75lbs less who are prescribed the pills.

I've watched my mom over the years lose the weight using pills and then put it back on when the doc wouldn't give her anymore. She never learned how to eat correctly. Believe me I would love a magical little pill to help me, but I know that it won't teach me anything. I think they can be a good thing for some people, but I think for most people they don't really solve the problem.

Here's to making changes that last.

Grits - Thanks for all the advice! It's nice to hear some ways to help us lose weight and get healthy.

Jana - My Mom has always been overweight too. She has struggled with her weight as long as I can remember. I really feel bad for her, but only she can make the changes to live a healthier lifestyle. In a way, I think alot of our bad habits are learned behavior. I feel like I picked up a lot of bad eating habits from my Mom, but I'm trying to break them. I'm hoping I can live a healthier lifestyle so if I have a child they won't have to struggle with their weight like my Mom and I have.

Great job to everyone who has lost weight or made positive lifestyle changes! Keep it up and you'll be at your goal weight before you know it!

Okay so I am trying not to take offense to the pill comments but I am being honest and I did. I just wanted to share with Noonoo that I had a similar experience and she is not alone. I do not think that pills are the ultimate answer and I was only on them for 12 weeks. They are a tool just like the other tools that I used, relearning eating, excercising, becoming emotionally healthy. The pill that I took I had read a lot about and is commonly used in Women with PCOS to help them "jumpstart" their weight loss since it is very difficult for women with PCOS to lose weight. I did not just take it and everything came off. I still had to eat healthy and workout. So I dont mean to offend anyone and I definitely dont think it is healthy for long term use but under the care and reccomendation of a physician it can help some people. I am sorry I think we all have a common goal to get healthy and want to support eachother but I just wanted to share how I feel. I am sorry I dont want anyone to be angry with me.

Mia, I would not worry over the pills. I just would not recommend them because ultimately the changes must be ones that can be permanent in order to enjoy permanent weight loss.

Someone had asked about motivation, and that is the one thing as a trainer I cannot provide. I could fuss and help someone be accountable. But you have to make the decision to want to and 'just do it'.

By your coming here you are helping yourself and each other to be accountable. That is a great step.

If you are serious about losing I would recommend a food journal. Keeping a food journal and being completely honest with it and yourself about every bite you put in your mouth, and every drink you drink. It all comes down to calories in vs. calories out. You need to burn more than you are taking in.

You can do it!
