PS-

My clinic is open 365 days a year, and there are always nurses/ doctors there. However, they just don't like to run major things like IVF over holidays- things they plan in advance. They don't want to risk doing ET/ER on a day like that- though if the need to they will do whatever they need to. I know some smaller clinics can do this, but unfortunately this is the way most of the clinics in our area operate .

However, I was told the schedule in advance and wasn't charged for meds or anything.

I was frustrated when I first found this out, but they were able to give me birth control pills to squeeze in a cycle and accomodate me.

However, if the personnel at any clinic treat you crappy and don't provide you with info as needed, then it is time to move on...

My collegues try not to do major surgeries near the holidays so that the on call person won't get stuck with any possible complications. Yes, when I and all doctors decided to enter medicine and OB/GYN in particular, we knew that we would be working weekends, holidays, and nights. Still we are humans with lives and families and friends. Take a minute and think of all the time your doctor is there for you and think of all the sacrifices that doctor and his/her family has made for you and all of the other patients. Sorry for the rant, but sometimes it is hard when patients are not considerate of us. I know that I have had several patients be very rude to my staff when I had to reschedule patients because of my recent ER and ET. Not like I can schedule ER and ET months in advance.

I agree with you! Thanks for your post; it's always interesting to be able to see that from the perspective of a doctor. I'm on my 3rd IUI right now, and if it does not work, then I won't even start another cycle until January. I know my clinic is open during all holidays, but I don't want to be stuck at home for Christmas myself. Plus, it may help me relax and come back stronger after New Year!
