Antiphospholipid antibody

Anyone out there tested + for immune system issue antiphoospholid antibody and ttc?

I found out about 3 weeks ago that I tested + and after my IUI on 8/31 was started on heparin injections 2x a day in addition to a daily baby aspirin. Just hoping to find anyone else dealing with the same infertility issue.

Thanks!

Hi

We too have been through that. I had a very difficult time conceiving and lost 2 pregnancies so I was tested and had anti-phospholipid antibodies as well as high natural killer cells so with my daughter, I was on lovenox, aspirin and IV immunoglobulin throughout my pregnancy with her. It may be coincidence, but it was the only time I was able to get pregnant and carry the baby full term.
We have since had a cycle that didn't work so maybe it was just coincidence or mayb eit worked. I was so desperate that I was ready to try anything.
I wish you luck - let me know if you have any other questions. How is your cycle going?

I had 4 miscarriages before being diagnosed with antiphospholipid syndrome. I have a 6 month old baby boy now. I had to do heparin injections and baby aspirin daily.

Antiphospholipid Antibodies

Hi-I have some ?'s regarding antiphospholipid antibodies. I have had testing done and the range has been high both times for my IgM levels, not the IgG. I was wondering for those of you that were told you were + for antiphospholipid syndrome, do you know which was elevated? IgG, IgM, or IgA? Or does it matter? I met with a hematologist who is referring me to a rheumotologist. My past RE and my current don't feel that I need to be on a blood thinner or baby aspirin. One said that the IgM levels don't matter but from what I read on different websites it seems that elevated IgM or IgG levels may cause a m/c. I suffered three losses, 2 m/c and one ectopic and I can't help to think if this might have been a cause. I was also diagnosed with 1 mutation of MTHFR. I'd really appreciate any thoughts.

I just saw your post, I was also diagnosed with APS and also have double hetero MTHFR mutation of the 677 and 1298 allele. I would question the RE that said you don't need to be on heparin or Lovenox. My RE pretty much said I needed to be on both BA and Lovenox to prevent a miscarriage. I would request it anyway because from what I've raid it won't hurt you being on it (other than heparin can cause osteoporosis) and it will prevent m/c risks. I know I'm not a lot of help, but I was just diagnosed earlier this week so still learning myself. Good luck and keep us updated!

Hi Kristen- Thank you so much for your post. I don't know if you remember me, I posted a while back on the Houston study board. I was accepted into the Duramed study but had to decline due to vacation confliction. Getting the diagnosis is overwhelming because so many dr's aren't familiar with it. I agree about my RE. My first set of labs were abnormal but he said it wasn't an issue. I wasn't satisfied w/that and took it upon myself to seek the advice of a specialist who then referred me to someone and I was sent for extensive testing. There's a great website APS Foundation of America, Inc. ~ Welcome! that's very informative. If you don't mind me asking, how were you diagnosed? Did you test positive for the lupus anticoagulant or anticardiolipins? Thanks again for your post. Please keep me updated as well also as to what you find about APS and I'll do the same.

Yes I do remember you!! Well, looks like we get to share another thing in common! I joined that APS website the day I found out I had it too!! LOL! I did not test positive for the Lupus anticoagulant and I don't have my paperwork but the IgM (??) numbers were like ridiculously high (is that the anticardiolipins?). Anyway, I think we are our own number one advocates in all this. I have several other autoimmune disorders so it didn't surprise me that I had another one and I always "knew" something was going on with the clotting issue but didn't put the two together and now it all makes sense! I originally went into a neurologist because of Migraines everytime I started on birth control pills and I hadn't ever had a workup done (even though I'd had migraines since I was a teenager). So I think it just goes to show that we know our bodies the best and if one dr doesn't share the same concerns that we do, than we need to take it to the next step and get another opinion!

Hi Kristen- You said it best, we MUST be our own advocates. My IgM #'s were also extremely high. This was before I tested positive for the lupus anticoagulant. My RE (two of them actually) said it wasn't an issue. One said the IgG is what they look for but I wasn't satisified w/that response. Why did my IgM #'s come up extremely high not once but twice. Once during pregnancy and other time I was not pregnant. I'm not sure what IgM level you came up to. It might have been the anticardiolipin or could have been part of the antiphospholipid panel which was the case for me. How did you convince them to do the full work up (kudos to you for doing so! )? Was it due to the migraines? I had such a hard time convincing my RE after my third loss to do a work up on me. He only chose a few things and I went to him w/a list! He finally agreed only to say the results weren't an issue. It was then that I decided to take matters into my own hands and saw specialists. My rheumatologist sent me for yet more b/w. She said they missed a lot.

What are you now being told about BCP's since getting diagnosed? I was told that I cannot take them. How far into your cycle are you? When's your reterval and transfer? Lots of luck to you!

Hi praying4amiracle!

I was just tested for immune/clotting problems after my miscarriage at 7 1/2 weeks. I tested positive for lupus anticoagulant and my anticardiolipin IgG and IgM were slightly elevated. My MD says that these tests show that I have antiphospholipid antibiodies and that is what probably caused my miscarriage. He says this condition can be treated with heparin injections to prevent miscarriage. I am trying to get an appointment with a perinatologists so he can recommend what I should take if I get pregnant. I hope to do a FET soon.

Hi Sandra,

Last summer when I tested + I was doing IUI's through a OBGYN office. When I started to see my RE in February, he told me that 1 positive test for APA does not necessarily mean you are positive. Of course I tested positive w/ a second test as well, but you might want to be tested again.

I wish I could say I have this immune issue and have carried a pregnancy to term but after my miscarriage, I wasn't able to get pregnant. I just completed my first (and hopefully last) IVF and got a + on a hpt this morning. My BETA is tomorrow. I am already injecting heparin 2x daily and on baby asprin as well.

Best of luck to you! Hope you get your !

Hi Leigh Ann!
Thanks for replying. My RE also said he wants to retest in 6 weeks to make sure it is not a false positive. I'm hoping I don't have APA but if I do at least then we have an answer for my miscarriage and then we can move on and do a FET. A positive HPT is great. You are preggos!!! I'll keep my fingers crossed for big beta numbers tomorrow.

P.S. When in your cycle did u start your heparin injections and baby aspirin?

After six miscarriages, and lots of testing I was diagnosed with APS. I had positive tests for ana, anticardiolipins and lupus anticoagulent. As soon as I got on heparin and baby aspirin I had a successful pregnancy and my daughter was born in 05. My next pregnancy it was advised that I start on the heparin and aspirin from ovulation and continue until I got a negative pregnancy test however I got a positive home test so I continued treatment. However I did lose that pregnancy also although it had nothing to do with the APS, we found out later it was a chromosome disorder called Turner Syndrome.
