IVF Clinical Trial in Houston, TX!

Hey everyone -

Just wanted to post about an IVF clinical trial available in Houston/Webster, TX at the Center of Reproductive Medicine (CORM). I talked to Maryanne today who is in charge of the studies and she said they will be looking for almost 100 people to participate in their trials so to pass the news!

I'm already participating in one of their IVF trials there now and haven't had to pay anything except about $18 for antibiotics!!! All my meds, BW, u/s, ER and ET and one FET are covered by the trial I am in!

Their website is: The Center for Reproductive Medicine be sure to check their information under clinical trials. She said they are interviewing potential applicants who meet the following criteria:

Between the ages of 18 and 35
Less than two previous IVF attempts
BMI less than 38%

I hope some of you can benefit from this!!! If you have any questions, feel free to ask!

Hey Cathie -

They only had room for 10 people between the ages of 35 - 42. If you are between 18 and 34, they will be accepting A LOT of people (I think I heard her say 100 people) which is why there are looking for more people. Unfortunately, they limit the number of people between 35 and 42.

Hope that helps!

Bottle Brunette let me know if they write back. They are pretty slow right now responding to emails as they are swamped getting the trials started. I would also recommend calling the study phone number listed too. I heard the secretaries making calls to people on the trial line today and from what Maryanne said, that is the fastest way rather than waiting for her to email back Hope that helps! Good luck! Another tip if you can do it is to try and make an appointment with Dr. Schnell for a preliminary visit, bring all your test/blood work and she may suggest going directly into the study. That's what she did with me.

I also left a message on the voice mail w/ both of my phone numbers. I will give them a call first thing tomorrow. Also, I live in Florida and I'm willing to travel (which I did for my 1st IVF). I'm paying out of pocket so a couple thousand dollars in travel/lodging is better than 15K in Tampa.

Not too sure about how a preliminary visit would go since I live out of state. I wonder if faxing my records would be sufficient enough to qualify. I guess I'll find out tomorrow. Again, thank you so much for the info.

I checked my inbox this morning and I recieved an e-mail from one of the directors. She said that someone would call me within a week and they had lots of calls ahead of me and they go by order. A few hours later I get the call! She said that from all the info she gathered from me that I qualify and that they are sending me a packet that I need to fill out. Then I'd have to have records and such faxed to the main office. It's not 100% yet, but sure looks hopeful. Again Kristen, thank you so much for sharing this info.

I am new to the forum but have been around for a long time. Thanks for the information about the study. We live in Louisiana but my husband actually works in Houston. I am very interested so I called today and left a message. Hopefully I will hear from them soon.

Hey Nicole - Good luck getting in the trial! Let me know if I can help in any way. THREE ladies from this board have already been contacted and approved for the trial, so I hope there will be even more!!

What is the trial actually of? A new drug, or some type of new treatment?

I wonder if they will accept someone with endometriosis?

Ashley, there are two trials going on right now at the clinic. The one I'm in is for a new longer acting stim drug. The other one is for a new progesterone type drug I think. You will need to call and talk to them I think for all the information. Let us know!

I'm going to look into it. I'm in the Houston area. I may wind up getting their info and doing some research, possibly asking my doctor what he thinks. I wasn't planning on doing any more treatments for a while, but I may be game. Thanks for the heads-up.
