Infertility and Adoption Agencies
I would advise everyone considering adoption for reasons of infertility to be very careful about using agencies; especialy ONE in San Antonio) who specialise in infertility placements. THere are several reasons for this warning. First, adoption is an emotional business and an infertile copuls is already emotionally stressed; why add to that. Second, Agencies who specialize in infertility placements leave many legal doors open for themselves to determine your true infertility status. THough they may require medical valiation, they can still decide after taking your money that you do not meet thier criteria for infertility. Examine th agencies definition of infertility and make sure that you fit thier definition; make sure it spells out infertilitiy. If it is vague such as a "Medically indicated inability to bare a biological child", you might want to have it defined a little better. Third, Infertiility as criteria may be discrimination under the ADA and should be being reviewed by the federal and all state Attorney's Gerneral. Verify the reputation of the agency you are considering by checking with; the BBB, the attorney general in that state, the attorney general in your state, speaking with individuals who have used or considered the agency, the licensing board in the state where the agency you are considering is located. Be careful with the last one as they may, from my experience, may favor the agency in a complaint situation; particularly, if you are out of state. One final though, why is infertility even necessary as criteria. first, most if not all birthmoms want more than anything else for thier child to have a good financially secure and loving home; infertility is often the last thing on a birth moms mind. ANd, who defines infertility to a tee? As the previous post says most "infertile" couples have kids biologically after adopting. Unless parts are missing or damaged, no one can say definitively, except GOD, that a person can not "bare a biological child. Please be careful; many agencies like the one we dealt with in Texas do not place enough importance on the adoptive family; we are just a paycheck and if they don't place you, they will place someone else. Good luck.
