New To Forum- Hashimoto's
Hi. My name is Jennie. I came across this site in a desperate attempt to find a way to TTC baby #2 with Hashimoto's.
I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's after the birth of my son in 2005. After I had him, I dropped 30lbs soon after birth and then gained it all back plus 50 more. I was seeing an orthopeadic doc after breaking my hip when my son was 5 wks. old. He told me I was overweight (duh) and suggested I get my thyroid checked. I thought hw was crazy but made the appt. with my gyn. My labs came back abnormal so I was sent to an endo. After more labs and an exam, he told me I had Hashimoto's. We've discussed pregnancy in a very limited capacity but at the time I wasn't thinking of TTC. Now the time has come to TTC. Its been 6 months thus far with no luck. I never get numbers for my TSH but after my last appt. in January, my Synthroid dosage went from 200mcg a day to 224mcg/day. My endo believes that at this dosage of meds, it is believed my thyriod no longer functions. I haven't been to a doctor yet. I keep TTC on my own. Every month I am late I test and get . Only once did I test after being three weeks late was it a faint, faint then AF came after being MIA for over a month. ![]() I'm making an appt. with a new gyn for my routine exam. Are there questions I should ask him/her about TTC and Hashimoto's? Any resources available out there that can help me TTC? Thank you. And my heart goes out to all those TTC and the graduates as well. |

Wow. I've never come across anyone with a dosage that high.
I would definitely see a doctor about your TTC and having Hashimoto's. Your antibodies could be doing some damage that you're unaware of. You should also get a TSH, Total T4, Free T4, and T3 level checked, as well as antibodies if you haven't had those done recently. These should be monitored each trimester (minimumly) when you do get pregnant. From what I know about Hashimotos, the main issue is maintaining the pregnancy not getting pregnant in the first place since it is an autoimmune disease. But it sounds like your case is pretty progressed, so it could be causing problems for your ovaries. Are you certain you ovulate? Is AF regular? Feel free to PM me if you have any other questions.

I take two 112mcg every morning. I gather that they don't make a pill higher than 200mcg considering how the new prescription was written out. I had a thyroid panel done in January. I see my endo once a year now. It was every three months, then every six. Now just the once a year. I'm pretty sure I ovulate. While I don't actively chart in the conventional sense, I do keep track of my cycle via cervical mucus. No temp taking or anything. Just noting the cervical mucus. My endo *believes* that the Hashimoto's was lying dormant until I had my son. And then once pregnancy and postpartum hit, that's when things went wonky. I've been awful with my meds. And once my husband took over giving me my meds, I was on the Synthroid constantly -every day- for well over 6 months when I had my appt. in January and my dosage was still adjusted. AF used to be regular but has been a bit wonky since March. In March I was a week late, in April I was missed AF completely. Had AF in May, then a week late in June, a week late in July and just three days late this month. So I don't understand why my cycles have been so messed up. Yarr. I read somewhere on-line about another lab test I can ask for that has to do with the thyroid and ovary production but I can't remember where I read it. |
