If you are ovulating normally (if you get a + OPK each month) then they assume you do. You can also get your prog tested around cd 21-23. If it is higher than 15, that generally means you ovulated. You can also have your FSH and estrodial tested on cd 3. That can show if you have issues with egg quality. Those are the only ways I know of!

Actually, I wouldn't go by the OPK's. They tell you when you're ready to ovulate...not that you did ovulate. Lots of women get + OPK's and don't ovulate. I would go with the FSH to check your egg reserve and and day 21 progesterone to see if you ovulated.

Another dumb question??
What is FSH? And how do I find out?
I feel so lost in all this, just when I think I have a handle on one part I find I have to dive into the next part. I am so thankful for this forum. I can ask my questions and read about other women going through the same things. I feel very alone in this. My DH just says that it will happen when it is supposed to and that all my "trying and worrying" are a waste of time. My MIL says that I just need to relax and it will happen when I give up. If I hear that again I am going to scream! On top of it all, my friends are all distancing themselves from me, because they are pregnant or just had a baby and are afraid to talk to me, when I need a friend the most. Sorry, I guess I had been holding a lot in and it just came spilling out.

FSH is follicle stimulating hormone. They usually test in on CD (cycle day) 3, and if it is less than 10 (I think - maybe 8 or 9 in some labs), then they assume that you have eggs that are responding, and that you do not have a DOR (diminished ovarian reserve). I agree that the Progesterone test on CD 21 should tell you if you ovulated. If it is over 10 while not on medication, that is a good indicator. As far as them actually testing to see if you have eggs, I have never heard of them doing that, other than if you are doing ER (embryo retrieval) for IVF. Have you ever had an ultrasound of your ovaries? That can tell how many follicles you have. I am learning, still, and I just recently read on this forum that some follicles do not actually contain eggs.
It sounds like from your post that you are probably on track with the CM (cervical mucosa) and ovulation tests. Has your husband had a SA (semen analysis)?

My husband has been tested and he has no problems. And my projesterone test was done in October and everything was normal. So far there is no reason for not getting pregnant.
We can't afford an IUI or IVF, so I have to go other directions.

jenniebug76 there are NO questions that are too much for your RE, they are recieving your money for their services!!! I think your eggs are your follies that are measured before you ovulate, but I am not 100% sure so ask your RE. And they are measured with an ultrasound.

It is very overwhelming to read all the materials available but there is a lot of information online about FSH and ovulation and egg quanity and quality. I would suggest searching google or yahoo for FSH information. Good luck!

I had an ultrasound to check my antral follicles as part of the IVF workup. That gives you an idea of your egg reserve. You might also try an HSG to see if your tubes are open.
